What Does Second Hard Drive Connection Do?

What does connection on the left side of photo do?

I don't see any connection on the left side. Maybe just a little metal spring plate to make sure that the drive caddy is grounded?

It does not look like a connector to me either.
Grounding is never a bad thing.
It looks like a piece of metal foil that might be extending to the other side of the caddy to provide grounding or emi shielding.

So that any static electricity would have a safe path from the drive caddy to the laptop chassis, instead of going through the SATA connector and causing damage.
