Bad news arrived for users of Docs.com today: Microsoft has announced that the file hosting site will be shutting down, in favor of their other hosting service, SlideShare. Big M acquired SlideShare during the LinkedIn purchase, unwittingly making Docs.com a superfluous service in the process. With that reasoning, SlideShare and OneDrive are being pushed as the platforms of choice for data and content publishing.

We appreciate your patronage of our service and apologize for any inconvenience resulting from this transition. We are happy to provide automatic backup of compatible files to OneDrive and OneDrive for Business.

The end of service page contains multiple questions and answers pertaining to service timelines and shifting content away from Docs.com. It would be strongly suggested for current users to read over the information provided, as publishing and content accessibility will be nullified in the coming weeks.

How the heck are we supposed to trust a service when MS just goes and shuts everything down willy-nilly?

Trust?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh. You're serious?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *POINT*POINT*

When it comes to shit like this, you have two options.

  1. Trust nobody, even that weird looking motherfucker in the mirror.
  2. Trust ONLY so far as you can pinkie-toss a concrete filled Buick that's been ground-tethered with battleship anchor chain.

Beyond that, just lay back, invest in lots of lube, and try to enjoy the reaming...

That is just the way the cloud works. At least MS is giving its users a heads up. That is why you should always have an offline backup of your stuff. Not all services have done that.

I don't use docs.com, never even heard of it until just now. And I do keep local "cloud" storage on my premises and never rely on other providers to manage stuff for me. I rather have my NAS' and control access to my stuff, my way :)

But thank you for enforcing my point!
