YouTuber "Archon 1981" claims he just bought an unreleased, unannounced NES wrestling game from 1989. The cartridge was supposedly given to a former Nintendo employee simply because he was a wrestling fan, but "UWC" never saw the light of day again. Archon says he's going to release the ROM to the public, but in the meantime, he uploaded some footage of the game, which you can see here.

Thanks to cageymaru for the tip. Garrett Martin, who's apparently a big pro wrestling and retro gaming fan, went to the trouble of trying to identify all the wrestlers in the game:

A handful of them should be immediately recognizable to any wrestling fan. In the top row you can see the Road Warriors-the tag team of Animal and Hawk-as well as Sting, who was quickly becoming the promotion's top face the year this game was copyrighted. The bottom row is a little harder to figure out, as three of them are just a bunch of grimacing or grinning blond guys, but that's unmistakably Ric Flair second from right. Reese's footage helps identify some of the other wrestlers. The bottom left corner is none other than Beautiful Bobby Eaton, one-half of the Midnight Express, perhaps the greatest tag team of all time. The top right slot looks a lot like Jimmy Garvin, and that's because it is, as we see in the very first in-game footage from Reese's video. Garvin's wrestling Barry Windham in that footage, so we can scratch another one of those bottom row guys off.

Yeah, that was the WWF game

there was also Pro Wrestling from Nintendo

This prototype felt like it had a lot better animation though; I'm a bit cynical, but I'll feel better about its authenticity if/when the rom is released.

I bought one of these signs a few years ago as a gift. The originals can be had for couple hundred - less if you buy it from someone who doesn't know the value or care

There was guy making reproductions and selling on Etsy for maybe $100-ish (can't recall exactly, again this was few years ago when I was hunting for one)

Looks to be better than the WWF Wreslemania game from that era. Like the video posted above shows, that game was all about hammering people with your character's back attack. They beat out everything else and did tons of damage. It's like whoever made it was a Double Dragon fan.
Wrestling games didn't really get decent until maybe Saturday Night Slam Masters and some of those N64 era games.

Totally agree- but it would be fun to load it into the NES classic and just give it a spin for laughs and stuff.

Pro Wrestling was awesome! I hated Amazon though, damn claw face!

No wrestling game will ever beat the ones for N64 though. They are the best!

I remember a few years ago, before the great memefication, when every post was "A Winner is You!" from Pro Wrestling.

Definitely. I played the crap out of Pro Wrestling back in the day. I wasted a decent amount of money playing the WWF Superstars arcade game, too. Nothing wrong with a little dumb fun here and there.

1st two games I got for Christmas with my brothers were Pro wrestling and Russian Attack. They played mainly pro wrestling but Russian Attack took me a few months to finish.

"... he's going to release the ROM to the public..."
And Nintendo's response to that?
