I'll updated this as much as I work on it. Currently we have a PIII 600 machine server us as an HTPC, and I aquired some better items through a trade. I couldn't figure out what to do with them but upgrade our HTPC and make it a true HTPC ;) Some how we managed to break our frist 5disc dvd changer and I forgot we still had it. This thing is huge! As you can see below I can fit a full size mobo in it, however I'd really like to go with a mATX. (shameless plug for my wttf ad).

The list is as follows:
Panasonic 5disc DVD shell
Soyo P4I-845PE Motherboard (really really want mATX)
Intel Celeron 2.7Ghz (will do 3.4ghz stable with stock cooler)
256mb Mushkin Pc-2100 High Performance (very old stuff, rated for 2-2-2-5)
ATI AIW 7500 (need riser card, anyone know where to get one?)
mATX 300w PSU (might end up taking it out of its casing)
16x DVD-ROM

Here are a couple of pics, I just got started on it tonight.

Ripped the broken DVD player apart and layed out the componets. Have to do some creative thinking.

lol i thought this was going to be a 5 disk htpc. Read the name wrong.

Looking good, glad to see that a full atx fits in there. Is that power suply going to fit with the top on? Cant wait to see what you have planed for the front. keep us updated.

JEEVES

Sorry for the confusion with the 5disc part. I thought about it, but could'nt find any feesable way of doing it, plus it didn't work ;)

Thanks for the link CrimandEvil.

Well I got alot done in the past few days.

Cut back out for backplate.
Measured and drilled holes for motherboard mounthing.
Cut out a few peices that rised above base.

I'll be back with pics, first I need to shower, I have metal shavings everywhere.

Here are the pics I promised. (not that anyone is watching)

I had to remove some "bumps" turned out pretty well

What I'm aiming for once I attain some parts and fabricate some.

Are you going to clean up where the motherboard sticks out in the back?

You could get a ATX cutout, Paint it black, and then do the type and everything on decals on your comp with some decal paper and a printer.

I don't think so. no one is going ot see the back ;) I was going to put the actual backplate in it but got tired of cutting lol.

Yoy should move the DVD drive further down so that it's close to the PSU and doesn't stick out like that.

Its just a pet peave of mine, but I can't stand messy cuts on mods
Even if its on the back, it just makes me shudder :p

I agree. For me I would have done 4 holes (one in each corner) and then used a jig to cut from hole to hole, and finish it off with some sanding. It's all about having the right (or close to the right) tools.

Don't really bother me, all I have is a dremel and a drill :)

I like the idea, you might want to consider looking around for a lower profile cpu sink. That stock guy on there is big (in the way) and will probably be to loud for your application. Definitely worth the <30 bucks you would have to spend to drop your sound levels a good deal.

Actually PoW, I have another, lower profile one i'll be using. I just havn't swapped em out as I'm not finished with the casing.
