Why play PS3 X360 on your small monitor?

Ok, so I don't know anything about 1080p and I apologize for stating incorrect info.

High resolution > screen size

Resolution is the amount of information a screen can display where 1080P has 1920 x 1080 pixels which to display images.

The reason people game on monitors is because usually their monitors have higher resolution compare to their TV. Almost all 24" and above monitors can display over 1080P while only 37"+ LCD TVs (or larger for plasma) can display 1080P (No CRT TV can display 1080P).

I would game on a 19" CRT monitor over any old SDTV 50" TV any day.

LOL, look at all the noobies gaining up. But my point was that, I think it's a waste to buy an expensive console and playing on a computer monitor but if you think that justify the cost you pay for the console then I have nothing else to say.

I fail to see any disadvantage playing games on monitors.

Well this is the end for me, I just don't get why you guys spent a chunk load of money on a console and lack on the next most or most important which is the display.

Computer monitors >>> TVs under $5k

Fact is, its our money and we can do what we want with it:)

The OP seems to think that consoles are expensive, I beg to differ. Aside from the PS3 they are actually quite cheap next to a comparable computer. Also - some people are not hardcore console gamers, instead of buying a new TV they simple plug it into their computer monitor and call it a day. Saves space as well.

As for the guy that said the only defining characteristic of an LCD TV was it's RF tuner thats just ridiculous. The fact is because of STANDARDS such as oh, I dont know, the HD standard, most LCD TVs only have the capability for 1,280x720 and 1,920x1,080 resolutions, thats a fact, and while we're on the subject, on the market today as has been stated there are no small scale < 37" LCD TVs. WHY? Because to make an LCD TV that small with such a resolution would make viewing from long distances tough with 1920x1080 resolution content, such as video games and would make it just another monitor.

I own a ViewSonic VX2025WM 20.1" widescreen monitor that I use for my computer (I don't play games on it anymore... last thing it would play was Mafia, Warcraft 3, and Morrowind era games) and for my Xbox 360. Personally I think this size is about perfect when I sit a foot or two from it, the monitor fills enough of my field of view to immerse me in the game. It's more than satisfying and I don't really think I would want a larger monitor as I would have to sit farther back to enjoy it. I can't really afford a HDTV right now so I play on my computer monitor. I would have to get a 47"+ HDTV (which my wife would NOT approve of) for my living room to get close to the same percieved size as my 20.1" monitor at 2 foot away to make it even worth wild. So that's why I play my Xbox 360 on such a "small" screen.

noobies gaining up? We're just proving you wrong. You think that it's a waste to be playing on a computer monitor and that a 30 inch HD crt is going to be better. Hey, guess what is going to be pumping out better images. The 24inch "TINY" computer LCD. You post on [H]Forums but don't really know anything about what you're posting. This forum has generally been for enthusiasts. Heck, even most of the tvs i've seen inside best buy were 1080i. Almost all modern computer monitors can do at LEAST 720p which beats those. In short, you don't know what you're talking about.

I understand some of you guys live in a dorm but it's not like you move every year. Some of you claimed that you can't afford a TV for gaming, well, if you bought a ps3, 24" monitor, and a nice rig, I don't see why you can't save up and do the same if you're into game that much.

wow dude why don't you just shut your mouth. Why would i want to buy a cheap or mid range LCD TV when I can get a good solid 24 inch which can connect all my console stuff and computer. Have you ever though that some ppl don't watch TV all that much. just drop your argument. Its very flawed and retarded

Wow... I don't know why you fags are so offended by just a question and statement that I believe it isn't justify the cost of your X360 or PS3. If you're happy with what you are playing on, that's fine. And yes, I still think it's a waste to invest in such an expensive console and play on a 24" monitor regardless if it does 1080p or not. My statement does not imply that size is superior to quality, you just taken it wrong.

You are the one that needs to shut your mouth, I didn't say anything about buying a crappy TV.

Prove me wrong one what? Because I said I think it's a waste? Yeah... You can sure prove my opinion...

If you'd rather play 360/PS3 on a 20-24 inch computer monitor than a 50"+ 1080p DLP or 46"+ 1080p LCD then you are a pervert.

If you don't think that size is superior to quality, then why do you say that it's a waste to play a 360 or PS3 on a 24" monitor? Your argument is flawed. If size is not the problem, then quality is? Most of the big monitors that many members here play their consoles on are very high quality, which is better than what I can say for all the $500 HDTV's that some people are purchasing now a days.

It's all about what you're getting for your money. A monitor is versatile and cheaper than HDTV's with comparable specs ignoring size, which we already ruled out as a factor. You have your own opinion, and we gave you our reasons for our own opinions, yet you call us fags. Just move on and stop trolling.

While I don't agree with the quote you responded to, a big DLP is still more expensive and a lot less mobile than a monitor. :p

I call fags to who being rude to me. And yes, I did say quality is superior to size but 24"? And yes, I did play PS3 on a Dell 2407WFP and I think it's shitty quality. If I invested $600 on a PS3, I would at least invest in a good TV, not just for gaming but for movies, etc... But again, if you think that 24" that you play on justify the cost you paid $400-$700 console then that's fine.

That's just your opinion it's shitty quality. How much would it cost to invest in a "good" HDTV that doesn't have "shitty quality"? Have you realize not everyone is as wealthy or as demanding as you? There're a lot of people with next-gen consoles who are playing on SDTV's too, are you going to tell them off too? How people enjoy their consoles is their business.

What would you do if someone driving around in a Ferrari pulls up next to you and tells you that your car is shitty quality? Maybe it's a decent car and it's enough car for you, but that guy is just too demanding and stuck up and only wants expensive cars that are fun to have but not very useful for daily situations.

I don't understand why people buy an expensive console to play on a small monitor (24-30)? Don't you think it's kind of a waste?

Edit: What I mean is that why play on a computer monitor?

U are obvioulsy a console gamer, hence prefer the comfy of your couch.......for me, I own a Hitachi 57" HDTV (ISF calibrated) and picture quality beats most others BUT based on my lifestyle, I spend more time in front of my PC/monitor than on the couch so gaming on a soon-to-be Dell 2407 is more conveniant instead. Plus my wife/kids usually watch TV/movies,etc while I game on my monitor without any interuptions.

And , if u didn't know.....gaming on a 24" LCD from a feet away has the SAME immersiveness factor as gaming on a 42" TV from 6 feet away...

And yes, u can take my TV anyday as long as u leave my PC/[future] monitor alone!

I see what you mean and it doesn't matter what people think really, I just don't understand why but now that my question had been answered. Some people in this forum needs to chill out, especially the noobies.

So you think you are superior to noobs just because you have been on this forum longer?

I have a 37" LCD TV on the wall and a 22" I use for the computer. I have an HTPC/gaming rig on the TV and my general use/serving tower on the smaller monitor. I play on the less powerful computer just because I like the monitor more. It has faster response, higher res and like others said, fills my vision more since I'm only a few inches from it. I'm guessing the original poster doesn't have a 20+ inch widescreen monitor. They really fill your vision just as much or more than a larger tv across the room. I'd game on this monitor everyday of the week vs the larger tv on the wall.

The OP's logic is flawed. By his logic me playing games with my computer complete with a E6600, 2 gigs ram, and a 8800 gtx on a 24" monitor is a waste  especialy since my rig cost me about $2200 which makes the price of a xbox 360 or ps3 look like nothing. By his logic anyone with a recently built gaming computer should be playing on 50" tv's to match.

one question, is there any true 1080p (not just able to play 1080p, but play it in 1080p quality) HDTV with a price of a dell 2407wfp?
Thanks :D

I have a 24" LCD monitor but, now I mainly use the Xbox360 on a 17" 16:9 WS LCD. The reason is because I prefer lying on the bed and playing on the 17" which is next to my bed as oppose to the 24" which is 8-9 feet away. The only time I play on the 24" is in the daytime on weekends. Then, I can turn up the volume loud. But, I mainly play games after work and at night. I think some people out there including myself get a 24" LCD or game on a smaller screen because they want an all around monitor for PC use, PC gaming and console gaming. It would be nice to have a 1080P LCD but, those mainly come in 37" or larger screens. Some people out there don't have the room for that or want to spend that much for a display. Some people out there play the Xbox360 on standard tvs and are just concerned about playing the games that come on the Xbox360. But, all I can say is main thing you enjoy playing the games regardless of what monitor you use.
