What mouse do you use and why?

My mx1000 started acting up. Turns out the USB functionality bit it, but it works fine via PS/2 adapter. Too late since I already spent money on the bluetooth MX1000 / keyboard set.

I moved the BT one to work because I found it a bit flaky, especially when there's a lot of wireless network traffic or CPU usage in play and I'm back to my original one (with new feet) via PS/2.

I looked at other mice but I didn't find any other good wireless mice that could replace it (wasn't a fan of the revolution, really). Which is how I ended up with the used MX3100 set via ebay. That new MX1100 looks pretty cool though.

I never had any issues of lag with it or hesitancy to wake up although I've heard some folks have...the bluetooth one is flaky though, even with the better, newer WIDCOMM BT stack.

I stated earlier that my Razer Copperhead freaks when I do fast movements. does this have to do with my mousepad???

My friend said that the black color mousepad messes with the laser? Does anyone have experience with this>

It's the laser sensor itself. They don't track fast movements well. If you use low sensitivity that would be the reason.

Exactly. Laser is not good for fast movements. That is why the MX518 is still around even though the G5 is a very similar mouse. The high-end optical and infrared mice are just better. I had a copperhead and "freak out" is a good way to describe how it behaved in a lot of situations.

Optical is just like a rock it is so reliable and steady.

Laser is much better for high sensitivity. I have an OCZ Equalizer and it's much more accurate than any optical mouse I've ever used (which is pretty much every single good one).

G9, love the on the fly DPI settings and customized weight system and interchangeable tops. It's a slick beast, got it free when my old wireless MX1000 died under warranty.

MX518.....3 years and still going strong. I have not found a reason to upgrade yet. The mouse still performs perfectly.

I'm currently using the Intellimouse explorer 3.0 Steel Series edition. Despite having fairly small hands and I never palm my mouse, only use my fingers, I still find it very comfortable.

Wow. I didn't know these were available. Is it better than the standard IME 3.0? I've read that the new ones have build quality issues.

Yeah, it's based off the older versions of the IE 3.0, so there aren't any quality build issues. It's very similar to an older IE 3.0 I have that is like 5-6 years old.

(from their website)

SteelSeries IME 3.0 SS highlights:

- Optical tracking performance at 9000 FPS

- Improved SteelSeries coating for anti-sweat and grip

- Improved SteelSeries Glide MS feet

- Legendary ergonomic design and customizable buttons

Another good mouse,

Do the cords still pop out of the end of the mouse like it did on previous versions?

Pop out? Mine has never popped out.

I had friends that had them and the early ones at least used to have their cords come out of the end. Not a total disconnect, but they'd work their way loose and you'd be able to see the individual wires in the cord.
