If I do decide to buy it, are you saying it would be best to buy it through Steam in this instance? It is on sale there as well and although I have no issue with buying it from Rockstar, are you saying they still have not fixed their launcher issues?

I bought through steam. The issue is, once Steam tries to initialize the game, launcher periodically goes haywire. When the game starts, it goes through the first few loading screens then says something about the game not being authorized in Rockstar launcher and you must quit. Happens maybe 1/5 attempts. When it does run, it runs fine.

The game also seems to take 1-2 minutes to start, largely due to rockstar launching and doing god knows what in the background.

I went ahead and purchased the game from cdkeys and it is a straight key for the Rockstar Launcher. Thankfully, the launcher installed and ran without issue, the game installed and ran without issue and it is fun, so far. Seems like a good story and to be honest, I am glad they allow us to spare people in the game, as well. Since I have about 30 days off, starting this past Wednesday, I figured I would play through this game and then finally play through Max Payne 3, which I have had for years but never did much with it. :) I will also see if I can add my LA Noir game to the Rockstar launcher since the launcher is not crashing.

They all came out Tuesday. Where have you been?
I've been stuck in my house all week, but I haven't seen much about it from the places I normally look. <shrug>

I gather it's good, but not the same as Doom 2016...

I bought RDR2 last weekend before I started my remote working (remote working has it's drawbacks in many ways, but two hours saved in commuting is definitely a bonus). It's superficially an excellent game in many respects and I see why people like it. On paper, I should love this game. It takes the cues in plot, dialogue, atmosphere, cinematography etc. from the best westerns (Deadwood, Unforgiven, Fistful of Dollars, Butch Cassidy...)

However, much like GTA games, it really didn't stick for me. The gameplay and mechanics were clumsy, the UI is overwrought, too many long sequences, and there's a generic quality that makes everything blend together after a few hours. Also, the Rockstar launcher is intrusive and buggy. It's not worth $47, for me at least.

I really enjoyed Shadow of the Tomb Raider. They're two very different games, if that helps.
How does Red Dead Redemtion 2 compare to Witcher 3?

Like you, I don't really enjoy the GTA games, but I really loved Witcher 3 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

I moved onto Call Of Duty WWII. Got a decent way through it on the PS4 but never started it on PC

I bought RDR2 some time ago. it did not work on windows 8, too slow. I upgraded to windows 10 where it runs fine. the gameplay though.... spent 30 minutes chasing deer to skin. not fun.

Is windows 10 faster in gaming? I'm still on 8.1 pro just don't feel like downloading everything and having to setup everything from scratch again and also compatibility with programs etc

I have been playing the story so I am not sure what you are going on about.

I'm currently playing the 2017 "reboot" (or whatever you want to call it) of Prey.
Pretty neat and not really what I expected. I was expecting a shooter for some reason and instead it's closer to Resident Evil meets Deus Ex in space. I appreciate being able to interact with most of the objects in the game even if it's rarely of use. The level design is really clever and your ability to explore and approach things in different ways is novel.
It's well worth the $15 per month for Xbox Game Pass just to play this game. Tough to tell how long it is, but I feel like I've explored at least 75-80% of the ship in 12-15 hours.

Did you ever play the first prey? I feel it was grossly underrated. Wondering how the new prey compares?

new prey is vastly different from the old prey. it is more similar to system/bio-shock style game. it loses the vibe and feel of the old game. really it has nothing in common except for the name. which doesn't mean it is bad, its a great game in its own right.

Yup, this is correct. The new Prey and the old one almost nothing alike. The only things they have in common are aliens and a first-person perspective. I liked the original game and I still think the world-bending mechanics the game used are pretty amazing. It was definitely more of a shooter.
The new one is supposedly a System Shock successor. I never played System Shock (I had a trash PC in those days), but I'd describe the 2017 Prey as a survival horror RPG. Deus Ex meets Resident Evil is the best comparison I have. There are shooting elements and quite a few enemies, but it's slow paced and the odds are stacked against a trigger-happy approach. It's pretty challenging no matter what you do, though.
I think they're both equally good games with the new one being much larger and diverse. Personally, I feel like using the same name was a VERY weird decision. It probably detracted from the game, which came and went without much notice. Some kind of callback to System Shock or just a totally fresh title would have been better. It makes me wonder if the title was some kind of legal thing to keep the rights to the "Prey franchise" or something.

I wish we coulda gotten a true sequel to the original prey. That game looked amazing and like you said the world-bending mechanics were one of a kind!
Anyways I fired up far cry 4 but not sure if I really care for it. I miss the first far cry lol

I definitely was looking for a Prey sequel. The original was an extremely solid Doom-like shooter with some great design, mechanics, and off the wall storyline. I still maintain the "Don't Fear the Reaper" abduction is one of the best video game openings ever.

The new Prey is, as others mention, more of a sci-fi horror survival game. It's decent and worth a play through. It pales, however, in comparison to System Shock 2 (Bioshock was the superior spiritual successor to SS2).

The sequel to the original prey was actually ready, human head studios had pretty much completed it, but bethesda was not interested, so it was never used.
It was a city/mission bountyhunter based shooter. video:

As for me, replaying original nioh. Nioh has a feature where you can fight revenants (killed player ghosts) and get their gear if you win.
I found this sword early on... it carried me for a ton of levels... then I found an updated version of the exact same weapon.
so thank you whoever you were, much appreciated :)

I'm jobless and stuck at home so I have a lot of time to play games.

I'm mostly going between Animal Crossing, Witcher III and my usual Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Hades.

I've played a LOT of animal crossing since it came out. Like, probably 20-30 hours since friday.

Day 2:

Day 3: (The Museum wasn't open yet.)
1585089325090.png

Day 4: Museum opened, so I could empty my house of all those critters.

It's now day 6, I have my orchard mostly planted, which will be a great source of revenue in the future, I have my villagers coming into town and my house is coming slightly together.

In Monster Hunter World I managed to beat a bunch of Saafi Jiiva raids and have a fully awakened Switchaxe.

(not my footage, but FUCK is this thing badass looking.)

I'm level 21 in the Witcher 3, I don't know how many hours I've played, feels like an absolute ton, but I think i'm still working on the novigard/velen questlines. I'm about to get on that ship over to Skellige, which i've explored a bit but not for any real amount of time.

With Nioh, farming those player ghosts is the single best way to get stuff. Like you, I ended up finding a really good weapon early that I kept for about 1/4 of the game. Even when I finally starting finding better items, I eventually found improved versions of the same thing. I can't really recall the details, but I stuck to the large 2-handed sword 90% of the time. I had a pattern of attacks that would either kill or guard break if you did it twice, so I spammed that vs. anything humanoid.

I am having a blast playing RDR2 so far. However, I need to get back on track, since I have already tried stealing two trains, just because. (I mean the whole train, and it was a blast to operate them, just because. :) )

A replay of Metro:Exodus because unfortunately, I didn't get the happy ending.
Both Global Events on The Division 1 and 2.

You will enjoy it. :) However, wow, mine took 34 minutes to download off a 400Mbps connection over a physical connection. (About 58MB per second download speed.)

It ended up taking about 3 hours to DL. Played it a little last night and taking a break from playing it atm. I loved the first one and am so far liking this one.

Skyrim Original Edition

I'm going to be an ass and drop Kaarstag at the start of the Battle for Whiterun right outside the first entrance arc where the battle begins. Also going to summon Durnehviir and Dark Brotherhood Spectral Assassin to give the Stormcloaks a run for their money.

Original Nioh - finished the campaign. I remember the dlc as having an insane difficulty spike, so redoing the campaign in NG+. Lots of great farming for divine gear. getting +attack on gloves and inheriting it onto other gear. fun stuff

Welp, 25% through the game and still not bored. :) Strange thing is, I can be a bounty hunter from the same town that I have a bounty on my head, kinda weird. :D

Original Nioh. Servers have dropped off line. Which sucks, because even though I don’t play online, the offline revonants have only trash gear.

Just finished Control. One of the best games ever, I'd say top 10.

Graphics were amazing with ray tracing, and the game was so much fun.

Same as last wekend: still splitting time between Star Wars Jedi, and Borderlands 3. Since I'm still at work, the glacial pace of my gaming will continue as always :D

I'm also trying out the ogiginl God of War on PCX2. Pretty good so far.
