Fallout 4 Friday night. Want to test out a couple of mods I've had my eye on and continue on with a mod I've had in the works for some time.

Remainder of the weekend will be for Cyberpunk 2077 and God of War.

More on the Lite side of that. It’s like side scrolling Hades, if you’ve played that. I’m not heavily into Roguey games, but this one is pretty special. Kinda like a 2D Dark Souls mixed with a touch of Vania, and a pinch of roguishness….
Tried hades a few days ago and couldn't get into it. Fired up dead cells last night and couldn't get into that either. The fact that when you die you start from the beg ruins it for me but the graphics just look too weird in Dead cells.. I just can't seem to find anything on game pass anymore lol

Received a cool Sega style 8bitdo bluetooth controller for Christmas, so I'm just getting around to attempting to use it. Will probably be rocking some old Sega Genesis titles!

That quickly becomes a non-issue. First, you keep all upgrades that you have when you leave each stage successfully. Then, as you beat some of the elites, you get runes, that allow you to take other routes through each level that weren't available previously. This allows you to skip to other (and new) locations without going through a full sequence of levels. For example, once you have one rune, you can play three easy levels to farm a specific boss, that drops a ton of good items, and helps you get your weapons and blueprints. Once you have a few things, yes, you start at the beginning, but you can nearly instantly get to the areas that you want to go to. You also can unlock other things like new starting weapons, so you're not stuck with the rusty sword all the time. I'd say if you put a solid 4-6 hours in, you'll have access to 30-50% of the areas quickly.

After you get these mobility items and paths, you can focus on higher level things. There are other upgrade characters, new forges to get that make weapon drops higher rated (+, ++, S levels). These are permanent upgrades.

The game progresses like any other, it's just a slightly different process. It's basically the same as backtracking in a Castlevania or Metroid. Maybe even a bit like Megaman. Sure, you die, you go back, but you can also basically select the next level you want to play, only instead of a level select screen, you just need to take a different path through the first area. Just a slightly different way of thinking.

With these modern ones, I don't think people actually give it enough time to really open up. They go back to the start a couple of times, then think that's what the whole game is like. Most of them aren't. It's the real Rogue and Rogue-Like games that work this way. Rogue-Lites, and other similarly termed games that aren't really Rogue-Like but have a few of the mechanics get a bad rap I think, before people really figure out how each game works. I would say most of the modern ones like Dead Cells, Sundered, etc. don't actually work how people think they do.

Do you have a PC or Switch? I guess it's not terribly cheap on those either, but it does go on sale a lot. I've put a couple hundred hours into it, so I've definitely gotten my money out of it. I've bought several copies. I mainly play on the Switch now, but bought it in Early Access on Steam way back when as well. (it was cheaper then though) They've added a ton of paid and free content to it over the years though, and still do. There are even cameo weapons now out of other popular indie games. :D These are among the best devs out there. They've really perfected their art.

Hades is a bit more rogue-y than Dead Cells. It has less shortcuts and path branches. Similar in many ways, but Dead Cells plays more like a traditional side scroller once you get a solid set of tools. There is definitely repetition, but then, there was with classic games as well.

Glad you like it! It will open way up after you get 2-3 runes.

I don't think there is anything else of that caliber.. I got game pass and gone through so many games just can't find anything that hooks me...
I'm going to give alien isolation a shot. Otherwise I'll shelve the gamepass stuff and do something I bought on GoG.

Great game played it a long time ago. Got game pass last year & knocked out 6 games I really wanted to play. Pretty crazy when you factor in each game costs around 20..

Totally. I got the 3 month for $2 deal and I'm making the most of it. Played Halo infinite, Forgotten City, Ori, Prey, Gears 5 (currently co-op'ing) so I'd say I've already got tons of value out of it.

I did end up playing some Sega stuff with my 8bitdo M30 controller! The controller is great, but eesh I forgot how tough Sonic 1 is at times >< lol. Kinda cool, there are some sweet games that I missed out on for Sega Genesis as a kid. I got an SN30 as well, and wanna probably jump right into playing an RPG. Is the SNES version of FF6 (FFIII) still considered the overall best version?

Wow 4th play through! Must be good? I'm holding off till it goes on sale again and I get a more powerful gpu then a 970 lol

In it's current state with patch 1.31 it is good. I'm very happy with the game overall though my opinion has remained very hopeful the game breaking bugs would be fixed. Haven't been let down so far.

I really love Sci-fi stuff but with all the reviews they make it sound like the game isn't that great even if all the bugs were fixed? Once it goes on big sale again I'll prob grab it but I don't want to be tempted to play it with my 970 and not get the full experience but getting any better gpu might never happen lol

Oh yeah I got the same deal! You should give deaths door a try if you like Zelda like games. I'm actually giving halo infinite another try bc there really isn't anything else on game pass that I want to play lol but even playing through one game makes that 2 dollars worth it. I'll prob wait until there is at least 4 games I want to play before I get game pass again.

Halo infinite is decent. They really went overboard on the cutscenes in the end sequence and hopefully they have patched it a bit (it had a few weird performance issues) but other than that the open world stuff is pretty fun. Oh and don't play on legendary a bunch of the boss fights are just tedious because of the way the devs decided to set them up.

Yeah that's the best way to describe it... Lol I'm not sure if I'm going to play it again but it did get a little more fun with the grapple hook. I'll prob wait for at least another 4 games I want to play on game pass before I get it.

I just did a run last night, using (accidentally) a technique that I never would have thought of.

There’s the guy right below the starting room to the left of the tailor that gives starting perks. I got the one that makes you heal in poison.

Later I got a weapon that emitted a poisonous cloud when I got hit. The poison cloud from my weapon healed me due to the perk :D

I’ve played this probably 200 hours off and on, and never noticed that sort of thing before. Now I’m trying out interesting combos like that ;)

Been playing mostly City of Heroes the past few weeks, and a little bit of the Sims 4. (Love to build Houses and lots and put them on the Exchange)
Also did a little American Truck Simulator with mods, but not much lately though.
Might go back and continue on with Cyberpunk and re-run Vampire: The Masquerade again.

Seen that guy, but it gives some warning for those perks, that i don't understand. Makes me think i'm not supposed to use them.

I occasionally use them. I think they're more for beginners really, but I've cleared several full runs over the years, so I don't really care all that much. There may be a penalty. I haven't really looked it up. I started trying them out only after this latest release, so wasn't paying such close attention. :D Maybe they don't give you boss cells or something like that if you use them. I'll take a look around, and see what I can find.

Edit: Looks like he's just there to help players that need a touch more help. I don't see any real penalties. He shows up after your third consecutive death apparently, and then offers one aspect per run after that. I tend to die a lot in a couple of key late-game biomes, so this makes sense. :D

Just beat the main story in Spider-Man, now I'm going to do all side missions. This game is way to fun to just stop after the storyline, unlike the recent handful of games I've played. I think I'll get to 100%, or close to it.

Just beat Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Still playing WoW TBC Classic and FH5, and starting up another playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy (through the legendary edition).

WWZ with the coop group - we've levelled enough and figured out the game more such that we're getting ready to start climbing the difficulty ladder. Solid co-op horder shooter, I like the weapon upgrade system where all weapons found in world match your unlocked and selected upgrades. Classes finally start opening up around level 10, I'd say, and that's been good to start building synergies in the team.
