WD 10TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive $159 on Amazon

Do you know what drive is in these? The Elements and Easystore from what I remember had different drives in them.
 
Ordered two, guess I will find out, either going to be air or helium, either should be fine, but I need some more space in my drive pool once I get everything moved over and this should hold me over for a bit.

Except it does.

Some drives wont work in some NAS boxes/PSUs without power pin modification.

Some drives have had built in USB controllers and no SATA ports.

Some drives have been SMR.

Some drives are air filled, some are He.

Some people need matching drives.

Some drives can be RMAed without the enclosure.

Some drives have longer warranty.

The list goes on.

I am thinking of grabbing one of these and setting up a StoreMI setup with an old Samsung 830 256GB MLC based drive (that has a 99% life rating) for 4k Linux ISOs ;)....

I am going to have 400Mb internet at the new place with the option for 1Gbps if I want it (too pricey but the competition is launching their 1Gig service this fall so it should drive the price down). I want to make sure I can write/extract things as fast as possible, and since I have the spare SSD And a x470 board (so I am not limited to a 128GB drive like the x300 boards).

It's probably totally not needed but StoreMI seems pretty cool and I figured why not?
 
Been resisting the urge to buy a couple of these.... not sure how long I can hold out.

Edit: price is back up to $199
 
$159 for 10TB sounds good. Newegg has 6TB WD elements for $99 (limit 3). Is $60 more for 4TB more worth it? $15 a TB more? Yeah I think so.

the 10TB is cheaper per TB, wont require as many drive bays, less SATA ports required and less power draw/heat/noise from less drives. The only reason not to get it is if you just don't need the extra space.
 
Just bought the 6TBs @ $100. Hopefully they're white label drives, some chatter I'm hearing is that 6TB drives are sometimes blues....

As long as they aren't SMR! I bought the Seagate 6TB USB drive and that thing gets DOOOGGGG slow after writing a couple hundred gigabytes. Like 100% access time and 10MB/s writes. PrimoCache helped greatly, but the thing would still come to a grind if you were writing a lot of data and also reading from the drive.
