What is the best VR headset that will give me the best visuals and experience on the market today?

I am in Australia so the Index is not availavle to us although I can import in a few different ways.

What should I be looking at:

1. Valve Index (Import costs roughly $3100 AUD)
2. HP Reverb G2 (available here soon for $1099 AUD)
3. Something else?

I have used my friends old OG Rift and thought even that was impressive, so I should be blown away by the Index or G2.

Up to you, both are good choices. Tracking and controllers are better with Index, G2 is easier to set up and technically has higher resolution screens. Plus, it sounds like, is far cheaper in your country.

wish I could purchase the G2 headset only. (vr racing) my CV2 is getting a little long in the tooth

Yeah, in general I would recommend the Index, but at those prices it just doesn't make sense.

Keep in mind that HTC is releasing new hardware soon as well, so I'm not sure if those would be competitive price-wise.

EDIT: Realized this is from October and I already replied.
