Tommy Hilfiger's new XPLORE lineup of clothing will be equipped with smart chip technology to track when and where you wear your clothing. It will seamlessly interface with an iOS app to allow Tommy Hilfiger to reward you for walking past their clothing locations and other places of interest on the map within the app. The more that you wear the clothing; the more points that you accumulate! Redeeming these points will get you sweet swag like gift cards, signed merchandise and archived pieces from the Tommy Hilfiger collection. Hurry up and get tracked to become a brand ambassador today!

Tommy Hilfiger representatives said that the data they receive will be encrypted and wearers will be able to turn off the chip's functionality at any time using the app -- so perhaps that will make people feel better about wearing a baseball cap that knows where it is.

Why not sale it? That is even more profit. Hell charge even more for that privilege. It is no different then what amazon and Google doing with their personal assistant.
 
There are plenty of people out there that will think this is the best thing ever. I won't comment on my own opinion of that in a direct way, but... :D
 
The same people that freakout about Google, apple, and what not will be the first inline to buy this crap.....
This reminds me of Enemy of the State type crap but now you KNOW its lined with a locator / tracker

Because they can. Because someone on the board saw something like this somewhere else, whether it was a concept or another product, and thought "hmmmmmmmmm" (with evil steepled fingers) Because they know they can spin it to be cool to all the 14 year olds with too much money, too many apps, and too much social media. And, with the exception of the intelligent minority, it's probably going to make them a ton of cash.

Of course it ties together. You're already getting tommy hilfiger ads for weeks on every google service after visiting a store, or even just searching for it on google once.
 
There is one good use for this idea and that is to get kids who go missing regularly to wear them. Then the next time they don't come home, use the Tommy Hilfiger app to track them down !! Bingo, thousands of police hours saved !!
 
It's cute the app will let you "turn off" the tracker.

Also think about stolen clothes. You might get your hoodie back from that ex you broke it off with three years ago.

No, the thieves stuck a tracking device like the FBI would use on his car. Also, I admit that I have no idea who he is also. ;)
 
Tracking condoms are next! The world always wants to know who is blanking who and when. I'll drop a couple in my wife's purse to see what she's up to.

I have lots of t-shirts I got for donating blood. They all hawk donating blood. Seems fair. And I don't worry too much about the Member's Mark logo on my $13 blue jeans from Sams. Most of the time I have tried buying something 'Nice', those are the items that either get ripped or acquire a permanent stain the first few times I wore them.

Wonder if these jeans will be like the wonderful US Passports with RFI chip and allow bad folks to id potential victims from a distance?
 
If you get lost in the woods - you know, exploring, do they send out a rescue party? Or sell your location so your Facebook page receives ads for camping equipment?
 
I assure you that this new program makes me excited enough to double the amount of clothing of this brand that I had owned previously. Since I've never owned any of this stuff I think just about anyone can do the math.
 
Didn't know TH was still a thing. I wore lots of their clothes in the mid/late 90's when I was in middle school.

you see... that would be a perfect use of drones. have amazon literally drop ship you some camping supplies
 
Throw the clothes off of a cliff to see if rescue workers show up at the location.
