Nintendo does it right where the games are concerned. I hope the market will reward them for this.

The market will not. Luckily Nintendo creates their hardware to be profitable from day one. This looks to be like the PS2/GameCube/Xbox gen where the sales are low for Nintendo, but the profits will still be good. There is also hints from that gen that are showing now where there might not me a large number of must haves, but the there are a few that make it totally worth getting the console.

I really hate that the Wii-U sucks so much.. I mean just look at all these crappy games I've been "forced" to buy and enjoy and not instantly trade in.

A lot of those are multi platform games where the Wii U had the worst version or the publishes have since abandoned the platform :p

Hmm. I bought Pikman 3 for the wife the day it came out. She's loves those little things. Here in Houston, it is pretty easy to walk into a Best Buy and buy the physical copy of Pikmin 3 for $59.99.

Just picked up Hyrule Warriors last week with some reward zone points that were about to expire. We've been enjoying it so far.

Finally picked up Captain Toad over the weekend. It's quite fun, and already has me going back to complete each level perfectly. (a practice I had started giving up due to having zero Free-Time TM) Fun little game.

Me and my son have been having a blast with Captain Toad, he does the initial level, than I go back and get the perfect for him, than he does all the coin levels. Hes a smart kid at 6 and knows what to avoid and has already learned about stealth mode with Toad.

Really? I sold it almost instantly.

It's pretty challenging for an 8 year old.

Really what?

It's a fun game. It's not terribly difficult, but I'm finding it to be an excellent distraction at the moment. Also, my daughters love it.

If you're referring to completing games perfectly, I was speaking in general terms about all games. I used to have to collect everything. (like the figments, cobwebs, luggage, and vaults in Psychonauts for example.)

Finally picked up Hyrule Warriors today.. Damn fun game. I'm officially caught up on owning all the "worthy" physical Wii U games.. Nothing else available I want to own.. I have the MP10 Amiibo bundle pre-ordered though.

Really, older Nintendo games were much harder. I get that they are trying to appeal to a younger audience, which can be done with a difficult setting on some games. But with puzzle games it's not possible. Wish it had an adult mode or something that really made you think.

Just another 40-50 difficult levels would do the trick. I agree that it's not hugely taxing on the mind. It's still quite fun though as a change of pace from some of the other games I've been playing. Sometimes I just don't want to think too hard. :)

New Nintendo games console announced, the NX (much cooler sounding name than Wii U, imo). Not much information about it, but it sounds like it will be released alongside a new online platform for Nintendo. Possibly subscription based ala Live or PSN? Who knows, but it's supposed to connect all of the Nintendo platforms together (Wii U, 3ds, NX, and smart phones).

Oh, and that's the other bit of info: Nintendo will now officially be developing for the mobile market. And likely begin printing money.

More of an announcement that they're working on something which was already known. NX is a development code name.

I still think the biggest tidbit out of their announcement (besides developing for the mobile market) is the unified online platform. Something Nintendo needed to improve on with their current hardware.

Just hopefully this doesn't mean another game subscription fee to worry about for online gaming.

I despise Game Subscrtion fees (hence I don't own an Xbox or PS4).. Could you imagine if Steam starting charging per month to use their service?

All I want to know is, why hasn't Contra been released on the VC? That baffles me, especially since later versions of Contra have been on the VC for years.

Because when the Wii U was in "No signs of hope" land Nintendo started slowly reorganizing their priorities with the Wii-U to stop the bloodshed. They stopped giving a fuck with growing the online framework and abandoned promises made previously (N64 VC games for example) and focused on 1st party instant hits (Mario Kart, Smash, Zelda, Kirby etc) and stopped investing in other areas.. Enough to sustain sales and support the console with money makers. But not waste money in expanding the framework in areas that low purchase growth couldn't return the investment. Obviously NES and SNES games were easy and cheap since they pumped them out fast and regularly on VC.

I love my Wii U and the games but it was very apparent Nintendo went into full "Stop the bleeding" mode and focused on 1st party titles and easy VC ports only mode. They also embraced shovelware indie developers.. Easy money w/ little to no investment needed

As far as Contra.. My money is on they burned their bridge w/ Konami. The story of Wii-U and pissing off third party developers

I actually enjoyed MP10 despite negative reviews regarding its "Everything is unlocked" "Theres no story driven mode". My son (who is 6) enjoys playing with me, in all 3 modes, we have a blast, almost have the wife convinced to try the game (she does no gaming what-so-ever).

Enjoying it.

I am happy with Nintendo doing the NX thing. And the key statement was "unified". It will be nice to finally see a network system worthy of beating up live and psn..... Bout time.

We have no assurance that Zelda will ever launch for Wii U. What if they just say screw it and launch it for NX? The only Zelda game I played on Wii U was a remaster.

If I had to do it again, I would have bought Mario Bro U, Mario 3d, Mariokart, and Zelda Windwaker. Played the heck out of those games and sold it all.

I'll wish an earthquake destroys their entire HQ.

The backlash would be epic.

That would be disastrous for them. If they go Sega and rush the new console out (which would also damage their reputation amongst fans, just like happened with Sega) most likely they do it like with Twilight Princess. Release a normal version on old console and "improved" version on the new one.

Shipping a new Zelda game with a new console may be one of the only ways to ensure a new hardware platform succeeds. Nintendo isn't pushing any new innovative gameplay by rehashing existing games with a higher resolution.

Nintendo may lose some reputation among current fans, however unfortunately for them that number is also dwindling very rapidly. If Nintendo launches another hardware platform that sells worse than the WiiU, the company as we want to know it is in trouble.

I think Nintendo needs a big do over and needs to launch a console the people aren't confused about, and they need to have software and an online system to support those consoles. Wii U titles were far too slow to launch and the online system is still terrible compared to the PS4 and One.

Hmm... Still having fun with my Wii-U and N3DS here. I admit, that if they pulled something like not releasing the new Zelda on it, I would be fairly unhappy. However, on the other hand, if the new Zelda then was a release title on the new system, I would buy the new system. I'm an adult with some degree of disposable income, and am happy to go where the games I want to play are. (PC and Nintendo typically)

I would also hold onto the Wii-U because it has games that will still be fun to play down the road. It's not like I'm ever not going to want to revisit a Mario or Zelda game. I'm re-playing OoT on the N3DS and MM right now for what... the 50th times? (well for OoT... finally going to get all the way through MM after putting it down several times in the past)

It will be interesting to see what unfolds, what the NX ends up being, which games continue to release on the U, etc. As long as I can still buy Nintendo games though, I really couldn't care less which console they're on. (except maybe the Virtual Boy) :p

Zelda would definetly be a system seller. Mario is past its prime and in modern gaming scene it doesnt carry the same weight it used to. Put it would be a dick move to push the game to next console instead when a lot of people have been waiting for it since the WiiU was released. Maybe they could offer a small discount to existing WiiU owners on the new console to reduce the impact amongst the few nintendo faithfuls who have it, I dunno but i know i would be pissed if us WiiU users were simply brushed aside.

Did anyone watch the new Nintendo Direct? Some pretty interesting stuff, especially with Lucas coming back to Smash!

Also does anyone else think Splatoon will fail? It has no local multiplay yet it's online has no voice chat, WTF? A game like this NEEDS voice chat to coordinate.

Animal Crossing DLC Ambiio cards... how fucking pathetic. You'll pay $39.99 for a 25 percent filled game and if you don't own the New 3DS then you'll fork over another $40 to buy the fucking card reader. Then you dump another $100 or more into cards to actually play the intended game. Fucking bullshit. If Nintendo wants to alienate even more fans then this is the way to do it..

I really despise Ambiio's now. I despise how Nintendo is handling them by drip feeding them to the US and creating artificial demand boom. I hate that they are super low quality cheap toys with glorified chips that now unlock lots of extras that you can't get access to otherwise.

Overall I was disgusted with that part of the Nintendo Direct. I'm excited for Fire Emblem and the Mario Kart stuff but nothing really impressed me.

Nintendo really has to announce a Metroid game at E3. And this year Nintendo actually rented out a huge hall for a full on conference so I'm guessing something major will drop. But this drip fed Ambiio crap is the worst form of DLC if they are going to make them mandatory for some really beloved franchises..

I think Splatoon will ultimately be successful because of its fun factor. Its a weird title for the Wii U but people love it. And the gameplay looks very good.

Ever since buying Splatoon a few months back my wife has been addicted to playing. She hasn't been this into gaming since the Viva Pinata series on the 360 years back. It got to a point where she was playing so much that anyone else had to basically rotate in.

Couldn't have any of that nonsense, so I went and purchased a second WiiU/Splatoon bundle just so I can play along-side her at night.

So now, I own 2 WiiU's, no XB1, no PS4 and it feels good, because goddamn Splatoon thats why.

giphy.gif

Anyone who hasn't played this game should seriously take a second look. Its flat out amazing, fresh and addicting as all hell. There have been a number of free updates to the game, which include new gear, guns, and several free map packs. The level cap was increased from 20 to 50, which will take tens of hours to hit. I've only see 2 50s ever. The community is strong and recent NPD numbers now show the game has sold more than 600,000 copies.
