The Fallout New Vegas Thread * will contain spoilers *

Just a heads up guys,

any of you running ffdshow need to add vegas to list of programs it will not be used in, fixed a bit of stuttering for me :)

This issue has been around since Oblivion. Bethesda should have fixed it in Fallout 3 but they didn't to my knowledge. I use Media Player Classic x64 and have no problems with ffdshow though but I did back in the day with Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Just beat this yesterday. I went the Yes Man route.

I was admittedly not a huge fan of Fallout 3 when I played it. New Vegas makes me want to go back and replay Fallout 3 especially since I didn't play any of the FO3 DLC's. I actively searched for console commands this time around (mainly to circumvent what I think is a terrible repairing system and to make my sluggish character faster). Made the game much more enjoyable for me.

There's also mods for everything you just cited there.

Heck, it's already at a point where you probably could think something up and chances are decent that someone's whipped up a mod for it.

Yea, I've tried some of those mods (although not for very long and only after I beat FO3 once).

Some of them are super buggy. The 'repair' mod for FO3 sometimes bugs the game out and it trivializes the repairing. The way I'm using the console still requires the player to have repair skill and such, but you aren't forced to use the same guns etc. New Vegas attempted to alleviate some of that with weapon repair kits and one perk, but I still hate the system since you're still mostly forced to carry around extra weapons.

The run speed mods for some reason didn't do exactly what I wanted. There's one that simply adds a console command on launch but the command increases run speed for everything in the game. There's another that adds a pair of glasses that increases movement speed but first it increases the speed by too much, and second you can't wear glasses with every type of helm... There's a simple console command that I use to modify specifically the player's run speed. Don't know why it's overlooked in every run speed modifying thread I've found on google.

I also have other motivations to replay FO3. When I first played it I don't think I really looked anything up (unique items, good builds, companions, etc.). I went through the whole game using w/e, had a weird ass build, and never used a companion. In fact it wasn't until after I finished the game that I learned you could have companions. This time I'm gonna go in with a plan and look up what I want to do as opposed to just winging it.

I thought you were making these up until I looked them up.

Heh, that armor looks pretty good.

There's something funny about these uber killers with this high tech gear and there's Hello Kitty that somehow has survived even a nuclear holocaust!

Anyone else think going the Caesar way is really short? There are very very little side missions to do with Caesar...

I beat the game in about half the time going Caesar/Evil route than going for the NCR.

Are there many side quests for them? I suppose you do something for the Nipton guy, the slave girl, and I keep hearing things about a burning man though I don't know if it's a side quest. Oh, I think there's also side quest at the town that takes the boat to their main base.

I guess the road to evil is quick and broad. :p

The NCR/legion fork is later than you think. I was able to do most quests for both before completely angering the other faction.

Anyone ever work the blackjack casinos with 10 luck? Wow, fastest way to get a whole lot of money. You don't even have to know how to play the game very well.

Trick is when you receive the last complementary award then stop and only play occassionally otherwise you'll get kicked-out of the casino. Unless, of course, you want to get kicked-out. :p

Yep, do that and when you are almost at the max go to the slot machine and hit a jackpot. Also remember to go to the atomic wrangler and you can get about 80K gold to start out with in less then 2 hours from starting if you run to Vegas fast. :p

What the heck is this? It just showed-up tonight. Disabled all mods accept weapons, going clean and it's still there.

Wow I hated Anchorage too and The Pitt and Broken Steel were my two favorite. I hated the idea of being stuck inside the virtual world, but it made sense. I did like how the game looked though, the thought of an updated BF2142 with those graphics at the time made me all giddy.

Anchorage made an AWESOME first mission. Run straight there from the vault, walk out with Power Armor and a bunch of experience.

Steam already patched my game without me letting it. Fortunately it didn't mess anything up.

Here's how it happened:
1. Setup steam for offline mode + New Vegas no updates mode
2. Later go in online mode
3. Steam downloads latest Steam client update
4. Steam forgets that New Vegas shouldn't have updates
5. Steam updates my game even though I told it not too.

this updated today? I don't see any store notes on it yet...

hope it doesn't break my mods...

It was announced today, who knows when it will be launched. I certainly hope it fixes the game. Ever since I upgraded from a 4870 to 2 GTX470's in SLI, I haven't even been able to launch it. Game just crashes at the loading screen.

you mean when the game is loading or the fallout game menu from which you launch the game?
if the game menu then you can try verifying game cache files, alternately stop steam and launch the game menu. it usually works then, for me anyway

From the loading screen. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled. I've tried surround, sli, and single card, nothing worked, other games work fine, not necessarily in surround, but they run in single screen otherwise.

Fallout New Vegas patch 1.2 is out.

Zomg, you mean my game could actually work? with out crashing randomly or having to console command my character/NPC/companion to finish a mission?

SACRILEDGE!

Update is downloading right now. Looks like I'll have to remove a couple of the mods which fix things with companions and quests.

I just got the game and played it for the first time last night... I seriously need a dose of speed or something for my dude... He runs like a turtle with a grenade in its ass.

No fix for wheel of fortune????

GAH

They really need to fix the walk outside game freeze issue. it happens more than when I just walk around randomly.

Hmm, I only experienced a handful of bugs on my first playthrough. Each one was easily circumvented with a console command though.

I started Fallout 3 again. This time I got all the DLC's (never played them the first time). Going back to Fallout 3 makes New Vegas look really... bad. I'm not gonna lie, Fallout 3 is just larger, more detailed, and in general more polished (and this is not considering the DLC's). The entire world of new vegas just seems to be very mediocre next to DC.

At this point, there's really only two improvements I can think of in New Vegas... 1) Steamworks instead of Windows Live (just a personal preference) and 2) The main plot is better (again, personal preference... I think running after Daddy is really silly and something I wouldn't do in the lone wonderer's shoes).

Hmm, that's the first time I've heard that viewpoint. Hopefully we get much more (non-exclusive) DLC for New Vegas, but if Obsidian is involved we probably won't.

I agree, I prefer the DC wasteland, it felt much more like a wasteland. Plus the vaults were better in Fallout 3 IMO. I like the wasteland feel, I dont want to see a fully powered town with people all over the map.

Yet it fits almost perfectly into the Fallout lore, Fallout 3 took quite a few "liberties" with the IP.

I thought the vaults in New Vegas were much better. I don't think FO3 had anything over New Vegas except maybe artwork preferences. Some people like green and yellow, others like a desert.

eh, DC with all the subway tunnels and blocked areas was damned annoying. I don't think I bothered finding all the locations there.
