The core i9 12900K used 2.3x power than the Ryzen 5950x in official benchmark

That’s pretty stupid. Intel is always bragging about gaming, but their new chip will cut off many games. I guess if you own the game, you can find a pirated version with the DRM removed.

It's not necessarily Intel's fault (well, maybe dev outreach and seeding could have been better?). It's just the way that particular DRM package works (the game switching between the P and E cores could trip it up).

I suspect at some point there may be an option to disable/bypass the E cores (hopefully in realtime, and not a reboot and trip into the UEFI) to accommodate such cases. Even better would be an app property toggle to restrict it to the P cores.

No there won't even be work arounds to get it working properly on windows 10.
The way this chip works needs a custom scheduler... if you got it to run on win 7 8 or 10 you will not like the experience.

No, read the link I made above. Alder Lake will be fine with Win10 in that regard. It'll just be better with Win11.

I cannot even begin to fathom why someone would still want to use Windows 7. The hate for each new version of windows never ceases to amaze me. If only Microsoft could find what Apple puts in the kool aid.

Even crazier, somewhere out there some guy is still using XP because "xP fOrEvEr LOL M$!"

Windows 7 doesn't force or nag me to restart my computer like Windows 10 does. That's a feature I can't do without because of the nature of my workflows.

If you have Windows 10 Pro you can disable automatic restarts from Group Policies IIRC.

When I hear a company say... "users should expect a lot better consistency in performance." I take that to mean... ya it may run on windows 10 but performance is going to be janky at best. We know MS isn't going to update 10 to implement a 10 version of their scheduler that properly communicates with Intels on chip thread director.

Like it or not If you aren't willing to run Windows 11 you should probably steer clear of Alder lake... and probably any future Big little chips.

I am interested to see benchmarks next week. I'm really interested to see some Linux numbers. Most of the Alder lake bits where added to 5.14 back in sept... but some of the power state tweaks are being added to 5.15. Looks like 5.15 non RC should hit next week. I am looking forward to seeing benchmarks of windows 10 vs 11 vs Linux. Linux has a few different scheduler options... I am hoping someone will take a bit of time and run some numbers using a few different Linux scheduling tweaks/methods.

I’ve disabled the automated reboot on windows 10. It’s possible.

I don't recall Windows force restarting me any time recently. But I keep up on updates, I usually check every couple days and do a manual restart.

I have a system running win 10 up 24/7, and it does do automatic reboots. I disabled them, and when one of the other boxes says updates are up, I remote in and do them and gracefully reboot (it runs some VMs).

Start --> Run (or just do Windows Key + R) --> Gpedit.msc --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Windows Update and then all the settings are there. You can enable 'No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installation' Alternatively go under 'configure automatic updates' and you can set it to update automatically once a month, etc.
