Click the steam deck store page. If logged in it'll show your reservation and expected ship date. If there's no date shown the rumor is you're in that first batch December 2021. I reserved a 256GB one around 3 o'clock Friday and I'm in the Q1 2022 group.

2. when you say install any OS you want you mean any Distro you want. Although windows 10 will be (technically) supported until around 2025 the minimum requirement for windows 11 is a 9" screen. This may of course change, but if it doesn't then your probably best just sticking with Arch Linux and learning how to use the alternative software available on Linux of which for a gaming device is plenty enough.
 
I put in for the 64GB on Saturday, planning to pop in an NVME. Then I looked for 2230 NVME cards, and saw a bunch of 128GB for cheap, and a 512GB for $200. I cancelled the 64GB and went for the 512GB - I'll pay the extra $50 to not have to crack the Deck open, reassemble it, and reinstall the OS. Even with changing the order today, it's showing Q2 2022.
 
Finally a replacement for my Shield Portable. :)

Since I travel a lot this will be a perfect replacement for carrying 2 heavy laptops (gaming & work). Hopefully swapping the OS is as straight forward as Valve has said so I can install other game services and other voice apps. Really need a portable offline way to play PC games.

I also like Valve will allow it to work with any powered dock. Hopefully between now and launch Valve doesn't crater it. A little worried about the deck evolving into steam machine 2.0 but who knows.

What model? 'Cause I got in at the nine-minute mark on a 512 and I'm Q1. Definitely could be worse, and this is something worth being excited for just the same.

Don't forget: tougher screen, too. Three to five months extra wait isn't so bad. But my whole system my be skewed; I pre-ordered a Pandora in 2010 and I waited three years for that bad boy. Oh, and the pre-order was close to $300 if I remember right. Yep, pre-order, plus Pandora Super mod, plus battery, extras, and SD cards was over $900.

Not even adjusting for inflation, this is a smoking deal.
 
I like to travel light, usually just bring my laptop (even though I have a Switch Lite, RG emulator handhelds, had a GPD Win 2 at one point).

With the Steam Deck I would just bring that and use it as a PC as well. Haven't been this excited for a product in a long time.

Hell yes. When I do press events like SHOT Show, or back in the day, CES and the like, I'm busting ass on those floors. And you can't bring one laptop, that's an invitation to disaster. You need two laptops, two cameras (cell phones work now, but back in the day...) two sets of shoes, extra socks, and so even travelling light adds up.

Especially for events in Vegas, where your chances of getting greased with coconut oil from a well-travelled buttcrack jump about 10,000 percent. Extra tech, extra clothes, extra cash, extra painkillers.

I've been waiting for an Asus PN51, and I'll probably still get one, but this'll do, no question.
 
I thought I had ordered at a decent time on the 16th but guess not soon enough, q2 2022 for a 512gb.

I reserved the top model the first day. Q2 2022. Hopefully, it does not actually take that long. Oh well, either way.

IMO if you're not in that first batch take that expected delivery with a grain of salt.

I know they've been working on this awhile but I think even first batch Xmas 2021 might be a stretch.

I would worry that it becomes another Steam Machine, or Steam Link, or Steam Controller.
 
I don't see the appeal of this unless you are on the go a lot and/or travel a lot. Is that the reason you all have bought one of these? For the price I am thinking that just getting a entry-level gaming laptop would have made more sense considering the uses because other than gaming there isn't anything else you can do with the Deck unless you buy the dock for this and somehow are able to install Windows on it, but then at that point you should have bought a laptop then probably.

I just don't know how to feel about this device honestly. I have a Switch myself, but that's entirely because of the first-party games and the "dock" that allows me to play it on a TV was already in the box. Idk... while I think it's interesting I have a prediction that unless you're traveling a lot and you don't have a gaming laptop then you will likely not be playing this a lot after a while if it comes down to choosing between this and your gaming PC at home.

I only have a gaming PC and a M1 Air. I want my steam library in a handheld form so I can play anywhere in my house instead of my desk.

For reference I already setup Parsec to stream my gaming PC to my M1 Air and it works very well but this isn't what I want because the laptop always has to sit on something close to your face. I want a handheld device at the end of the day not a laptop.

That's kind of me. My wife is notoriously needy which limits my time at my desk. The steam deck would be perfect for gaming in bed while she watches tv. Plus I can never get comfortable with a gaming laptop in bed.

Plus I'm creeping up on 40 and the older I get the less I want to sit at a desk to play after designing stuff in solidworks all day.

This. but instead of steam deck, I chose a book. Tired of computers of various shapes and sizes all day.

I was assuming it had a camera. Lets say Gabe Newell hears you through the microphone like Alexa? It doesn't matter you get the idea. But yes, you could install any OS including Windows 11. Does it have secure boot and TPM? I don't know but lets assume it does and assume that there is a work around in Windows 11 if it doesn't. It can be done. Try doing the same for the Nintendo Switch.

deploying and maintaining a DIY install of Arch is for masochists (ask me how I know rofl) but it's simplicity and customizability probably make it a good base for building up a custom fully-featured distro that's user-friendly but without baggage from starting with a less barebones foundation. Kinda like BSD (generally considered not user-friendly) to MacOS (BSD-based but built up until it's unrecognizably user-friendly)
