Yeah...that said.....nothing.

https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesda-announces-space-faring-rpg-starfield/

Near the end of Bethesda's press conference at E3 2018, Todd Howard put to rest rumors that have existed for years and announced Starfield. The oft-rumored game is speculated to be set in the Fallout universe, albeit much further into the future. Obviously that makes sense, considering Starfield is said to be a space-faring RPG, something confirmed by the short teaser trailer which showed a space station orbiting a planet.

There's not much else to it other than a brief mention that it will be singleplayer. No release date, no concrete information, but it's still an exciting prospect. "It's our first wholly original franchise in 25 years," Howard explained. "Starfield is a game that we have spent years thinking about and working on. Something we feel uniquely positioned to pull off and that we're incredibly excited about."

It's not much to go on, but it'll be interesting to see what, if anything, Bethesda will say in the near future about Starfield.

It will be interesting to see if the rumor of Starfield somehow bridging and marrying the Fallout and ESO universes ends up being true. (look that up)

I have heard this rumor before (at least Fallout is way way way before ESO)...but confused on the Starfield rumor. Hows does a civilization go from technology (pre and post apocalyptic) to no technology and replace it with magic? If the rumor is true...they better have a damn good explanation on that...and not take the ending of Battlestar Galactica where all the ships go into a sun.

Is this actually confirmed for PC? Bethesda games are still way too consolized for me in general.

Almost every game is consolized, it's the state of gaming and has been for some time. It's not the worst thing, basically console control schemes and performance dictate a lot of the design and that's never going to change for any multi platform game. This game is probably 2 years out but I'd be willing to bet there is a 100% chance it is released on PC.

I am going to gamble and say it be released next year. Honestly...I was underwhelmed at Bethseda this year. For the past couple E3's, games they showed during the event, were released that year...that is not the case this year for the most part. They "claim" this game been in development for a while, so I would expect to see it next year if they really don't want to piss off there fans. Just my 2 cents...could be totally wrong.

Lol I sort of agree with you change. I LOVE the concept of their games but hate their execution and find their concessions to console gaming more egregious than other software companies. My friend is a full on Bethesda fan boy and my dislike of their games drives him bonkers.

So is this going to be melding TES and Fallout into the same universe like was previously rumored or is this something entirely new?

Also, Axion Energy is the name of a real life company. It's an Argentinian oil company owned by BP. Wonder if they'll complain about its use in a video game.

those screenshots look "fake" to me. most likely someone's portfolio or samples of their texturing and modelling work.

Same to me. The position of the character in that screenshot looks like it would be awkward to play with, and then you have the spaceship which clearly isn't a screenshot of the game, it's a screenshot of an asset. If these are legit they're straight from one of the artists' computers.

And if these are real they aren't telling us much other than the game looks unimpressive and still very early in development.

There is no real official information out there except that they are making a game called Starfield and it is an RPG.
Rumor says more information at E3.

Agreed, at least as far as quality goes. I meant budget and high profile. But they are amateurs when it comes to quality standards.
Doesn't matter because mods have always been the strongest part of traditional Bethesda games.

The real question is how are they going to treat the modding environment going forward, for years Bethesda has been trying to monetize it (which will kill their only real selling point), and now that its microsoft it may actually happen.

It's going to be buggy Deadspace with no mods, and we'll all be playing on day one, including the whiners and naysayers. Especially the whiners and naysayers.

Now get out of my office!

Hard pass because its Bethesda. They are the most sloppy and uninspired of all AAA studios.
Case in point, this guy right here, friend of the forum peppergomez. Quoted for when he's playing on day one with the rest of us.

Comix will also be playing, and even post screenshots, but then a week or two later will say he's never heard of the game and ask if it's any good - and not even be joking. I've learned not to ask questions.

there's nothing unique at all about those recent screenshots...looks like any generic space game

That is the issue with Bethesda. People excuse their shoddy work because they just say the community will fix it with mods. The community shouldn't have to fix a professional product from a bug or quality perspective. After Fallout 4 I'm done with Bethesda Softworks until they can show that they're not relying on the community to finish their work anymore. Fallout 76 doesn't inspire confidence, but we'll see if Microsoft can crack the whip.

Life is too short to play Bethesda games, let alone buy them on day one. I used to think that community mods could redeem their games and even did the full STEP mod install on Skyrim, but like I said, life is too short to play their shoddy games and tinker around with mods just to make them playable. In the case of Skyrim, I stopped and put that time into playing Witcher 3 instead. There are too many games out there worth playing to tolerate Bethesda jank.

While I don't entirely disagree, I don't entirely agree either. Its a business model they built and it has given me some of the best modded games ever, I don't regret any of them (including FO4, I never really understood why people hated it so much, you have no choice, so what, I had no real choice in the other TES or Fallout titles either).

Yes they could do more to polish the games before release, but they also enable the community, though I see that coming to an end and that will be the true end of Bethesda (imho).

If it's a company owned by BP that operates in Argentina we can all be sure it's not an Argentinian company. It's owned by BP and a Chinese multinational. The same old story.

I'm with peppergomez on this - anything Bethesda is now a 100% pass for me as well.

I suppose I differentiate between mods for the sake of creativity/user content and needing mods just to make the game playable/stable/de-consolized. My opinion is that Bethesda is pretty lazy/mediocre in relying on the community to mod away poor UI and bugs and such.

Edit - they are also pretty so-so in the writing department, and I have never found either their graphics or combat to be that good. And that scrappy old engine of theirs, Gamebyro or whatever it was called. Rickety. Really, about the only thing I think they do well is build a large varied open world.

Bethesda games often piss me off with the bugs. But I do like Fallout. Only game developed by Bethesda that I played (3, NV and 4). So I will play another one in the future.

I'll probably play this. I assume it will be a bigger budget Outer Worlds.
