Apple has a little privacy issue on their hands now that it has come out that Siri will read aloud notifications from the hidden lock screen if you ask her to. Apple is aware of the issue and plans to release a software patch in a future iOS release. It's good Apple is going to fix this privacy bug, but how did it get in there in the first place? So much for software QC!

Siri's behavior becomes a privacy issue because it can read aloud messages and emails from third-party apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Gmail, even if an iPhone is locked and notifications are hidden. This violates the trust of users who expect that their notifications cannot be read by others.

Man, Apple has really been shortsighted in it's Siri implementation lately.

For example, if a friend of yours has a Home Pod you yourself can ask Siri to "read my last text messages" and she'll spout off your buddies' texts. Same goes for asking her to send texts and place calls, etc... The same voice recognition found on iPhones in which Siri knows to only respond to your voice is completely absent from the $350 Home Pod.

Somebody at apple fat-fingered the Siri spying app. Intead of ticking "read silently and send to Apple", they ticked, "read aloud". Now they will just reset it to be silent and remove the option to set it to read aloud.
