I'm about 2/3 done with the game on hardcore mode, this is a must buy for any survival horror fan. The atmosphere and tension are great, the police station feels densely packed with fun puzzles and backtracking in a metroidvania type of way, and the zombies are actually a threat. If you like a challenge then just start on hardcore, hardcore mode uses the ink ribbon save system with no autosaves.

Jacksepticeye has a hilarious (as all of his stuff is) walk through series on it. It’s like an mst3k experience lol

From what I see this game is bloody amazing.

I need to wait for a sale though

Just started so I don't have much to say about gameplay, but I am impressed by the number of options, especially for audio. It's good to see options for dynamic range and output (2-7.1 channel, ATMOS, etc,), but to me binaural looks the most interesting and I can't wait to see what difference it makes.

In most games sound is as important as graphics in immersing the player, so it's refreshing to see an emphasis placed on audio quality and setup.

I've watched 2 different streamers play the first hour of the game and it looks great. I played the original game 20 years ago and didn't realize how much of the game I forgot so I'm excited to get it. But I'm going to wait for it to hit $30 before jumping in.

I am right with you there, there are things that I have forgot but then realized there were some of the areas I was stumped on before! It is a great game, if you're not used to RE it can be a bit frustrating but overall it is exactly what I would have expected. They did a good job with kb/mouse controls, I was surprisingly terrible using the controller.

Interesting, I had the opposite experience. I think they force mouse acceleration or something because my sensitivity slows to a crawl when I make fine adjustments to my aim. I switched to a PS4 controller for this reason. If you know of a way to disable mouse acceleration, I'd love to know.

This has not been a problem for me, I will check to see if I may have adjusted which I do not think I have.

Is there a trick to killing zombies, I swear I just wasted 15 bullets on one, and every single hit was a headshot. Do headshots even matter in this game? Also, does waiting for the reticle to shrink and display a dot make it a more powerful shot?

Zombies are tough to kill in many user reviews I see the word "like a sponge", some zombies are not worth killing it's easier to just run around. Yes it takes more bullets than I'd want to kill zombies, I have found that you can run low or completely out on many occasions, I have learned there are plenty of bullets if you look around and find the maps and leverage them to find gun powder or bullets. A couple shots and a shot gun blast seems to do the trick in tricky situations.

Settings wise, under controls I do have When Aiming: Reticle Deceleration is set to setting furthest left with aim assist not enabled. My resolution is 2560x1440 and Image Quality is 200%. I can AIM and move the mouse freely without issue, confirmed tested on 2 different computers and mice. Good luck!

It's somewhat random. Some zombies heads will explode after only a couple of shots. Others take many shots. A shotgun blast will always equate to exploding the head. It's honestly not worth shooting most of them unless you absolutely need to. There are enemies far later in the game that you'll need quite a bit of ammo for. There are also some that you simply can't run around very well and need to clear out, like the first licker you encounter.

Also, don't waste any ammo on Mr. X. Just run away. Many times in many situations it's better to just run away and take damage then waste ammo.

I walked past the first licker without issue. However, there seems to be a scripted event where after you retrieve the medallion behind the C4 wall, the licker sees you no matter what. I thought these things were blind??

I have killed 2 lickers and ran past the rest unharmed. Agreed on Mr X, no need to shoot just run. I have learned if he is chasing you, and you are at a storage point he will keep moving. I learned this the hard way by thinking I had plenty of time and ended up being startled when he was a few steps away when I exited the storage menu.. lol.

That one attacks you no matter what. Easiest thing to do is just flashbang it and run.

I beat Claire A on hardcore last night. This was my first time playing RE2 so there were lots of little tips and tricks that I didn't know that would've made my playthrough easier. I have to say, going in blind this was one of the hardest games I've played in the past few years. I really had a good time though, although I feel that the boss battles, especially the ones in the final 20% were not fun and kind of annoying in hardcore mode.

I'm going to rest a bit before I tackled Leon B on hardcore.

I would agree even after playing RE2 when it was released that there were spots I kept getting stuck in, I know the next time though will be much easier. Fantastic game, VERY moody and hard to put down.

Seems random. With Leon's 45ACP handgun, I've seen zombies at 10+ shots, and other times the zombies heads explode with one. In some situations, kneecapping them is more ammo efficient.

One comment on X: when you get to the point where you need to move the bookcases in the Library, it's worth knocking over X so you have a minute or two of breathing room.

Also, at least in Leon B, there was one point I was going through the east hallway (outside the interrogation room) and X broke through the wall at the same exact spot he did in the original. And yes, you can walk through that hole now.

I put a full review in the other thread at the top of the gaming section. Few minor gripes, but I give this a 9.5/10.

The problem is Capcom tended to put Lickers either in hallways where zombies can come through windows (Western Stair room, near the dark room), wake up when the Lickers show up (Lab East Wing), or in high traffic areas where you are likely to go when chased by X. That one Licker outside the dark room probably cost me three green+red herbs when all was said and done.

The binaural audio option in the game is pretty great with headphones. It beats both the Creative and Microsoft spatial audio methods, in my opinion.

There are plenty of mouse options to configure, including acceleration. Acceleration is actually disabled by default. The sensitivity change while aiming you are experiencing is because there is a separate setting for ADS and it is set a lot lower than the camera sensitivity by default. I set both to the lowest setting so I can use a higher DPI on my mouse, and I use the "sniper" button to decrease the DPI on the fly if I need less sensitivity for a shot.

Why is this game having no other AA option than FXAA and TXAA?

FXAA did not remove much of alias problem that it shows in game, even 5K resolution on 27" still jaggy.

TXAA on the other hand completely blur out the texture.... :(

So this is the first game I've tried playing with HDR enabled and I don't see any difference at all. Should there be a dramatic difference and I have some settings wrong, or is it really that underwhelming? Everything from my monitor UI, ingame, and Windows says HDR is enabled but it looks exactly the same (yes in fullscreen which is required for HDR.)

Somewhat related to that, has anyone else experienced stuttering in fullscreen despite a consistent framerate compared to borderless? It's like frame time/pacing is messed up in fullscreen, but it also offers better performance than borderless.

Did you increase your image quality percentage? I have no signs of jaggies at 1440p.

I didn't think it would being in my mid 30's but this game freaks me the fuck out at times lol! Good times!

Lol same here. I was a young teen when I played the original and dont remember being as freaked out as I am now.

I havent made it very far yet due to not being able to play much but I'm pretty sure X is coming soon and I'm dreading it

What monitor or TV are you using?

No, I am not getting any stuttering in full screen.

Samsung C32HG70. I don't get it - 100fps in borderless is perfectly smooth when moving the camera, but in fullscreen at 100fps there are small hitches while moving the mouse that look and feel like frame drops but framerate doesn't change.

I'm confused as to where this game fits in the series. The trailer makes it look like the first or second one I used to play in High School on PS1?

Resident Evil 2 remake PC system requirements:

The common cold

OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 or better
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x with 2GB Video RAM
DirectX: Version 11

The G-Virus

OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-9590 or better
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 with 3GB VRAM
DirectX: Version 11

It looks to be well optimized. The One X was mostly holding 60 fps at just under 1800p dynamic resolution. Very Vulkan-like.

There has already been a Resident Evil HD remaster "remake", Resident Evil 0 HD remaster "remake" and now this Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 1 and 0 are the more traditional style fixed camera. 2 they changed it to be more like RE4 over the shoulder type. Which makes me wish they would make a DLC for 1 and 0 to be over the shoulder!

Thank you. I don't know much about AA and I just chose "FXAA + TAA" because the game said that would give the best image quality. But I turned it off and holy hell, the game is 100x sharper. Also tried SMAA but it looked the same as leaving AA off. edit - I take that back. SMAA does improve jaggies a bit and the textures remain sharp.

Turn up the image quality (Super Sampling) it will make a difference and can reduce the need for AA at that point. Up image quality and just use TAA or SMAA. You should have very little jaggies if not no jaggies as the end result.

Well that monitor only has 8 local dimming zones, and they're edge lit, so I can imagine it being underwhelming with that monitor. Real peak brightness is also only in the 500 nit range.

Are you connecting to the monitor with HDMI or DisplayPort? Are you using FreeSync? If you are, are you using an AMD or NVIDIA card?

The game has built in sharpening that can only be disabled with a Hex Edit right now and it makes SMAA look better from what I heard. I know a lot of people have reached out to Capcom to make this an ingame option to disable/enable. So hopefully in a future patch it is addressed. Right now I think TAA+FXAA is the best option, it looks soft, but on my setup in HDR is looks pretty good. Would prefer SMAA2tx though for sure.

I might give the hex edit a try though after my Leon B playthrough is overwith. Gonna keep playing the game anyways, I want to S rank hardcore on both characters before I set it down til mid February.
