Ok. I've recently finished the new water loop for my computer. It's a full tower case by antec i believe. I've had it a while. It used to house my old Dually p3 server, but sold all the parts a while back and now imma gonna use for the mod. Mainly because of its size (to fit my radiator). Many of you may have seen my home made watercooling loop i made over last month or so...but below is the pictures for the "end" of that and the "beginning" of the case mod.

But let the modding BEGIN!!

Ok the above is pretty much how its going to be. Im going to resize the hose coming off the pump just a little and maybe make another smaller res to help move around the pump, but ya'll should get the idea.

Ok onto the first step. Througout the process please post idea's and tell me what looks bad or sucks.

Below is the first step i've started.
This is supposed to simulate: "a demon that's trapped inside the case, and trying to pound its way out to escape."
It will be rivoted down to the case and edge's sealed with bondo and sanded down smooth as to appear as if the demon just punched to inside of the case trying to get out. This will also make it appear as one piece of metal.

I already have many idea's to set this mod off. Blood flowing threw the tubes for the coolant and maybe an IV bag for the reservoir.

Just an idea for part of the "demon busting out look"

Make some claw rake marks on the sides, tastefully. Maybe a tiny hole where it's begun to break through.

You might also simulate some stress marks by the "rivets", and have the edges somewhat exposed to shine light from the inside through. Just an idea, props on your mod.

yeah sounds cool. I think i may either do one of two things.

1. Take a smaller hammer, and add some "fingers" trying to come threw then take a larger nail and almost poke it through to simulate "claws".

2. Get some smaller gauge sheet metal and carve out some custom rounded edged "chizzles" if you will to make a whole plam/fingers/claws start to come out.
You kow lay it over a sandbag or something and just go slow with a mallet and hammer.

Glad you started your log gclg2000. As far as the fingers poking through idea, how about taking a large guage nail(s) and poke them through. Leave them protruding as if it is trying to tear it's way out. You could use some bondo and paint around the nail to make it shaped like a finger and file/shape the exposed portions of the nails for the claws. I'm sure after Tuesday you will have a ton more ideas and could get some ideas for the monster claws.

If you could find a way to make some fireball scorch mark damage, that would look cool too.

It would be cool to incorporate a chainsaw into the case as well since the chainsaw is to Doom as the crowbar is to Half Life. Maybe get an old blade and put it slicing through the case or something.

I like the idea of the IV bag res. You could modify your current res to look like a weapon (chainsaw, BFG, gattling gun ) as well.

Awesome! Doom 3 is going to pwn you all! I need more pics and updates! i'm going to be watching this like a hawk...or a demonic fat zombie!

Got some of my electrical conduit and primed the "skeleton" of the case today. Its going to be black with blood smears on it (along with motherboard tray). Will have pics up soon
!!!

ok here are some pics of the priming/base flat black surface for the inside of the case. I've also done the motherboard tray too. Going to let them dry and maybe do one more coat and sand a couple of places. Once that is done. I'll do the blood smears/splatters/streaks to the inside of the case.

Ok, i've got all my internal shells primed and painted. Now im fixing to do some custom air brush work to it and use some pinstrip masking tape for some custom effects. But meanwhile i've finished the custom reservoir and pictures are posted below. The effect i'm looking for was a "blood chamber" to go with the biomechanical look. The "blood" (if you will) drains down the sides of the reservoir and then into the loop. I haven't attached the metal rivoted brackets yet permanently, but what do yall think of it? Leave them or leave them off?

That's pretty slick.

Did you make the res. or did you get someone to make it for you? if it was you, how much does plexi cost by the sq ft.?

I'd leave them off. Those metal brackets reduce the 'blood chamber'-effect too much.

Smaller brackets might work, though.

I er... third? the smaller brackets idea.

Stick with the brackets. But get smaller ones like the above posters said.

BTW, nice project. Can't wait to see more pics.

I like the brackets the way they are, but maybe smaller (thinner ones) would look better.

A 24" x 24" square piece of 1/4" plexi glass was like $20 at my local hardware store, but a friend of mine had a crap load leftover from various other projects. He had a table saw and thats how we cut out the pieces and made the groves for it all to fit together, then just added some acrylic adhesive to melt it all together. Thanks for the idea's guys, imma make some smaller ones, paint them a little and get back to ya'll....

Make sure to seal the joints on the inside with silicone or something like that I've had lots of leaks with my homemade res because the table saw puts really small cracks all over that the
acrylic adhesive doesn't totally melt together.
Other than that, it's lookin real smooth.

gclg2000, did you consider any of the ideas I mentioned earlier, specifically the nails as claws through the case? Regardless, I think you and I will have the coolest custom reserviors ever made for a theme project. Oh, and how did Bonnie and Charlie treat you? They kept me from working much on my project all last week.

Can't wait to see this case come together....looking awesome so far!

I live in Pensacola so Bonnie missed us by like 50 miles or so to the east. Charlie wasn't even close to us. And yes, im going to still try to make the claws idea... but with a new approach, i'm going to make a mold and use some kind of filler to "make the claws" then attach it to the case. I should have that completed any day now, cuz i'm off 3 days in a row and school starts back next monday, so stay tuned to this thread...i'll be posting more pics very soon.

And for the leaking question....the table saw i used worked great, PLUS the plexiglass i used was more "flexible" if you will...its not as brittle as many other types of acrylic out there so it worked great, and i just sanded down the grooves of the notches to be extra sure it was flat. Then just added the sealent, it makes a perfectly clear seam, thats how you know it is sealed. I leak tested it for 2 days straight and no problems.

Thanks guys.

I really think you should try to incorpororate a chainsaw into the project somehow. I think that would be the coolest touch you could add to the project. It doesn't necessarily have to be a real chainsaw. You could carve one out of styrofoam or have blade marks tearing through one side of the case or something.

BTW, you still working on the DIY WC guide or did you give up on it for now?

No i'm still working on it, things been crazy lately with moving and getting school stuff ready. Plus my mobo went to shit so i had to RMA it. But i think im going to try to incorporate the chainsaw blade into it. I think my dad has an old rusted to shit one that i could use. I think i would put it on the reverse side of the case in a tall thin window backed by some wire mesh...with a glow from a cathode...hows that sound??

All this talk of chainsaws sort of makes me want to do an Evil Dead case mod. :D lol
gclg2000, take your time. I'd personally like to see a work of art instead of something like a rush job. :)

I will, i've already got a chainsaw blade to do the mod with...it will look good, not like shit.
