PNY GeForce 6800 Ultra for $350 at CompUSA!!!

I guess I wouldnt have been so pissed if Comp USA would just freakin' learn how to cover their asses when it comes to the advertisements.

all they'd have to do is to include some kind of claus in the 30% off all PNY cards with something like "offer valid on in-stock items only" or something to that effect.

at least then I wouldnt have even bothered because I knew that would be their cop-out and I wouldnt have even tried. but no, they do this kind of bullsh*t all the time and like a dumbass, I fall for it and let them get to me.

I pre-paid last Sunday from the Dodger game, and guess what? im SOL , money was never taken from my account.

They charged my bank account instantly for my two GTs. Now the question is how long do I have to wait?

I'm brand-spanking new to this board and just need to join after seeing that some people here just need to relax. Basically it looks like CompUSA is not allowing pre-sales of 6800Ultras and others on this board acting like dicks to the CompUSA reps because of this and its discouraging others to try and get a 6800NU or GT. The 6800GT is an awesome looking card, try that instead of the 6800Ultra.

2 days ago I politely called my local CompUSA and spoke to the Sales Manager and he instantly said ok to the pre-sale. Pre-purchase, thats the key word here, not pre-order. Anyways, I went in the next day and it took several minutes but I walked out with the presale receipt but they havn't recieved the cards yet. My guess in Tuesday at the latest. Anyways, be polite and patient otherwise you aint getting shit from them.

Maybe I'm in good spirits because I got what I want and that may change if the dont honor the pre-sale. If they do cancel, its class action time as I've been on other boards besides this one where customers got presales reciepts.

Dude, I called my store today. The guy on the phone said that if they took Pre-Pays on anything not in the store that they would be terminated. He also said that "people on the internet" are talking about this deal trying to get the 30% off.

This was a nation-wide e-mail to the store managers apparently.

Looks like the deal is over.

I don't care anymore. I will not spend any more money at CompUSA anymore. I know that it will not hurt their business any, but it is what they deserve. This is FALSE ADVERTISING. I am going to write a letter to the Better Business Bureau about this. I have names of people that told me that CompUSA retail stores were receiving 6800 Ultras for sale starting 7/1/04. I also have an email from a Retail Sales Manager that says that the 30% off sale would apply to the new 6800 Ultras. I really hope CompUSA learns their lesson over this. They should have just gone ahead and honored the sale through July 3rd like their ad said. Sure they would have taken a loss, but at least they would not have the BBB breathing down their necks and they would have not lost so many customers over this.

I will be enjoying my very own BFG 6800 Ultra OC very soon. I will inform as many people of what happened as possible. This will not go unnoticed.

Mind if we add a few signatures/names to your letter :)?

I think we should also blame some of the greedy little assholes that tried to buy 5 or more 6800Us just so they could resell them and make a profit on Ebay. WTG in getting us regular buyers unwanted attention and ruining this opportunity for us all.

That's true, too.

I also learend from someone who got the "sneak-peek" CompUSA sale e-mail for next week, and the 6800 cards are advertised.

I can only see 2 outcomes, I either get the card at the price I pre-paid for or they just don't honor it all. I just called my bank and the purchase is showing as 'pre-authorization' so I guess CompUSA could dump me anytime they want.

DAMN, maybe I should have paid cash instead?

haha, yea apparently a nation-wide memo got sent around about us, says the business sales manager, (he was just about to pre-pay me for a 6800)

It kinda makes me mad that they backed outta this add, no spine I guess :)
But the guy says he will do me a "favor" and get me deals on anything I buy there like ever again...

to buy a 5900se or not, that is the question

if I do, compusa never gets business again (except for bawls, damn there nowhere cheap to get those) and if I dont, then they wont anyway

people, the bottom line is this:

Comp USA probably wont get these cards before the 30% off sale is over. however, if/when they actually do, I'll bet $500 thats those cards will NOT be put out to sell to the public until after the 30% off sale has ended.

of course that would be wrong of Comp USA to do that but it wouldnt surprise me one bit. they're to be as trusted about the same as some foreigner named Muhammid who keeps asking where can he get some nerve gas. :D

Well, check this shit out. CompUSA is showing the 6800s as web only.

6800s@Web Only WTF????

As a side note this whole thing is getting as ridiculous as the launch of the PS2. This has to be the wost graphics card launch in history, and its cause by both ATI & Nvidia.

Thats not being greedy, thats being a businessman. I got the 377 deal on my one card but come friday if they have them im stock I plan to go to every CompUSA and max out all my credit cards and buy all the 6800 Ultras and GT's and resale.

Greedy yes, but good idea as well.

Your plan is bogus since what guarantee is there that they will be in stock tomorrow? Becuase of sneaky people like you CompUSA probably wont stock the cards on the shelves till after the 3rd and real gamers like myself may not get the cards they prepaid for. Overall, its a lose lose lose (yes 3) situation.

Update: My county has a pretty intensive Consumer Affairs division so if anything goes afoul they'll get a letter from me along with the BBB and others. They even keep a history of the complaints and the resolution. Best Buy had over 40 while Circuit City and CompUSA was about 8 each, no suprise as Circuit City is the best in customer satisfaction of all 3 IMO. Anyways, the resolutions look to be mostly in favor of the consumer as I'm sure companies hate to hear complaints coming from their local govenment.

I stated this a few pages back...but some people didn't want to listen... :D

Just an FYI....talked to my op manager buddy last night. He said the reason the 6800u is now tagged A07 is that it will not be available at ANY CompUSA store. It will only be available through the web. He said this could change but he highly doubted it seeing it was just tagged A07 a few days ago.

I don't want to imply anything here but consider this.....the PNY 30% sale is in store only.....a decision was made to only sell the 6800u via the web. Think about it.

Blackwind said:
Actually there is plenty of reason to. The sale (which is in store only) was designed to thin out present PNY stock....not kill their profit margin on the new 6800 cards. This is coming direct from CompUSA corporate. They do not intend on selling the PNY 6800U in store at all...hence the A07 tag.

I told yuh so....

The BBB won't do shit for any of us. I was part of the BestBuy/Ti4600 for $130 debacle. Believe me, the only way you will get this is if you do it yourself. These companies could offer free blowjobs in a full page sunday ad and not have to honor it. All they have to do is say "We made a mistake. See, I wrote a retaction on the bottom of my shoe." Their next greatest line is "Look at our corprate policy, It gives us specific rights to anal probing you with pine cones. You agreed to it when you went through our Consentual Agreement Verification Machine, we call it 'The Door'."

Just think of who pays the BBB bills... The big companies pay the biggest amount. Usually, the only legal option most of us have is the city or county attourney general for stuff like this. Just make sure you have all your ducks in a line before you start pointing fingers at big business. If not, they will most likely send you away and ask you to come back with something more compelling.

man, thats very well put. ;) :D :p

Well. . .I'm in a more unique position. When I went down to CompUSA on Monday, the manager agreed to sell me the 6800GT at the 30% off price. He said he couldn't guarantee me that I would get one this week, but he did agree to sell me one for the 30% off price whenever he does get a shipment. I asked if I could get that in writing so we both (the manager and myself) signed a document agreeing to the 30% off price. And we made a copy so I have one for myself. So if this CompUSA memo is telling stores to not sell the 6800GT for 30% off, it will make for an interesting predicament. I'm not afraid to take CompUSA to small claims court. I'd prefer to just get the card at the price the manager and I both agreed on, but worst case scenario I will do whatever is necessary to get my GT for $279.99. However irritating court would be, I'd love to see CompUSA try to dispute my signed document :) Of course I'm still hoping it will not be necessary, but I will do whatever is necessary for me to do to get the card for the price CompUSA agreed to sell it to me for.

hehe you went to the one I went to. I was the first guy. The one near the Gwinett Place Mall right? They asked me for my phone number and I told them to call me at 4PM. It is getting close to 4PM now. I told them that some of their people said they would have it today. They almost let me prebuy the GT, but they told me they wanted to research it and then call me so...whatever. I bought another MX510 and left. I bet money that CompUSA corporate prolly did ship the cards and they are sitting in the back storerooms of all the CompUSA in the country. The people unloading the truck were prolly instucted to leave the boxes unopened until after the 30% off sale ends. That is a dirty rotten trick if you ask me. Their own people told me that the cards were going to be available July 1st. Oh well.

Yeah that one! the once across Sams Club! what a small world it is isnt it?

well, I have not yet recieve a phone call from them. I guess Im going to quit :(

And yeah, I did see the Truck sitting outside for quite a while. I was ten minutes after you

Damn, all I wanted to do was go down to the Woodland Hills store tomorrow and prepay/raincheck for a 6800 GT. I think it's pretty fucking stupid that it says "Web Only" when you can check your store's inventory. Woodland Hills says " Coming Soon" whie Culver City says "Out of Stock". If the item is out of stock, a raincheck must be given for this item. I'm going to lay out a couple phone calls tomorrow and make a drive out there.

PNY Graphics Cards - 30% Off
DO NOT TAKE PREORDERS!
To: ALL Managers, All Team Members
From: Merchandising
Deadline: Immediately
Contact:

The back page of the June 27 preprint indicates Save 30% on all PNY Graphics Cards.

There is a group of consumers circulating information via the Internet, telling gamers to come to CompUSA and demand that we do a prepay on a much anticipated, yet not released PNY graphics card, They are expecting us to offer them "30% OFF" a card that has not been shipped to retailers. The card in question has an expected retail of $399.99. Product that has not yet been shipped by a manufacturer may not ever be shipped. These consumers get very vocal and irate and say we are crooked! They have a list of stores to go to and instructions on what to say to make the store honor the price. DO NOT HONOR THE 30% OFF ON NOT RELEASED PNY CARDS TO ANYONE.

Our low price commitment covers all new factory sealed products of the same brand and model number that are available, and in stock , at any local retail store. Our commitment does not apply to Internet offers or any one-of-a-kind or other limited-quantity offers, discontinued or close-out items, refurbished products, trade-in sales or special financing.

This offer on PNY Graphics cards is meant to clear out our inventory. Prepaids have been done in several stores and this practice must stop immediately.

this is the so called nationwide memo

this confusion is EXACTLY wtf im talking about. 89% of every nation -wide CompUsa store has no idea that they are NOT suppose to give the 30% off non- stock items. The F'n managers dont know... not the employees for crying out loud, the MANAGERS! ! ! !

well i walked in and prepaid for a 6800gt today, i was told a single person already prepaid for 3 'pny' cards (you know who you are) and that the manager approved that as well. You can imagine my thoughts. I said ok i realize you are allowing me to prepay for the 6800Ultra, but i think ill buy the 6800GT instead. He said and i quote, " once you have the 'pre-paid' receipt, nothing can prevent the buyer from getting the item. I said, well the worst case scenario would be i would be rejected and my money refunded... he said, "no you will get the card no matter what." I said i dont want anyone getting in trouble, is there any online memos that a manager can check to make sure no-one loses thier jobs etc etc. He said he already did research on it to make sure the previous 'three card buyer' was going to get his/ make sure it was ok.

now tell me , how many contractions could you count in everything i just said with whats going around the 'net' ? nobody knows anything . THIS is completely CompUsa's fault and this is ... how many days after the advertisement was released ? since Sunday ?
you have got to be kidding me CompUsa/Pny.

obtw, i did this at 8:58Pm pacific time ... RIGHT BEFORE THEY CLOSED today. If there was a 'memo' , ya think by that time alarms would have gone off.

GL all

Now THAT is funny. I think CompUSA now realizes the power that we have. If we want we can make things happen. I think that we should tell everyone we know not to spend money at CompUSA. That would hurt them much worse than selling those video cards to us ever would have.

Damn CompUSA you should have just honored your ad. Things could have been different. Sucks to be you...

Some people have had luck over the phone (I think they called 1-800-COMPUSA).

I may try that tomorrow.

While i didnt check the code (A07), my store shows thw Quantity of 6800U's (as of today) as -1.. that is on thier computer system. I REALLY doubt they are hiding the cards from us guys, as they wont leave them out of the inventory (and the person who works there has no real reason to lie to me)...

While i would LOVE to be wrong, i doubt this recipt i am holding will do me any more good than a book mark... at this point, (and i havent gotten any call), i have a feeling i will never see a PNY ultra from Comp...

I went to the CompUSA in Mesquite, TX after work yesterday and they said they had none in stock. (The sales guy didn't even know what a 6800 was, lol) When they looked it up in the computer, they thought I was far away enough from the screen, however, I could still read it and it said they had 50 in stock. Needless to say, I was pissed that they lied straight to my face about it. I just left after that. A company that blatently lies to its customers like that does not deserve any of my money. Even if it is an Ultra for $350.

haha Michigan law states if you advertise a price or a discount that you must provide a raincheck if it is not avallible. Compusa stated to me that the card had a release day of July 1st. 2004 and did not have any in-stock so i asked for a rain check ans she said no problem
and listed the SKU and a discount of 30% along with her employee number. She stated thay may never get them in but would give me a raincheck none the less.

i got her to give me one for a Ultra and a GT so we shall see.

LonG

They will have both the GT and Ultra instock at retail stores as soon as the sale ends. They were unloading the truch when I got there the other day. They were carrying PNY boxes. They LIED to us.

i would not find that very hard to believe...

I can think of one last-ditch effort to get this.

Go tomorrow to CompUSA, maybe near closing time (maybe today will work, too). Ask the guy in the PC department (you want a small fish here, not a manager) for a 6800, and see what they say (don't mention any sale or anything). If/when they say no, ask for them to check for one in the backroom/stockroom.

If they are selling these on Sunday, you can bet that they have them in the backroom on Saturday night.

Then, hopefully, the employee will check, and get you one/tell you that they have them. Tell them that you'd like to buy it cause you can't come back Sunday (July 4, busy with friends/family/relatives, etc.).

Just when you check out, show the ad. There will be no way to refuse you if you have the ad and the card in your hand.

I hope this can work.

I just called my local Philadelphia Store. They will not be carrying the 6800U's, and don't have any on order for the GT's either. No eta, checked with their purchashing agent, and there are at least 2 weeks from any info.

just a heads up if you live in this area.

i hope that you're right, however i wouldn't go jumping to conclusions. compusa carries a variety of PNY products and just because u saw some boxes with the name on the side doesn't necessarily mean that they're 6800's. these cards are already hard enough to get and i doubt that they have some plot or plan to have the new cards on the shelf the day after the sale ends...

the bottom line is that they were trying to clear out old stock, but the merchandising/marketing/whatever department made a big mistake in the ad by not including one of the following disclaimers: LIMITED TO IN-STOCK ONLY, NO RAINCHECKS, NO PRE-ORDERS, etc. regardless of them losing money or whatever deal that they have with PNY, it's their responsibility to fulfill the PRE-PAYS that (in most cases) managers authorized for 6800's.

Yes sir! I totally agree with you. I'm heading out to the Culver City store because their the only ones in my area that list the 6800GT as being out-of-stock, and in that case they must provide a raincheck.

TangledThorns wrote: I think we'll see a new turn of events by next week. Just need a little patience.
anything you want to let the group know? i sense you know something

also the A1 cards (ultra's) dont show ever being shipped to the stores, at this time its online order only for that card. does anyone know a store that for sure will sell the A1's at the retail level ?

Sorry to be so misleading. I just think we'll see the 6800s IN STORE next week and those of us that prepaid can hopefully take our cards home.

i think it depends on the region. philadelphia store says no GT's or U's at all for their store, and they double checked with the ordering manager. They will never be getting the U's.

What you failed to "read" was those were 50 that were already sold. :D so they didn't lie to you.....For those are are not aware....the CompUSA superstore in Mesquite, TX is the one that handles the Internet sales etc.

Again...Ultras will never be available in stores and will be web only. The GT's that were sold will be honored....but has also been changed to web only on the website. This is per my op manager friend with CompUSA. As can be noted...everything he has told me and that I have let ya'll know as come to pass......100% accurate.
