PNY GeForce 6800 Ultra for $350 at CompUSA!!!

bah! I'm not buying that one bit.

I say we'll start seeing the Ultras in the stores right about the same time that the 30% off sale ends.

I have a quick question:

What is the problem with selling the Ultras in the store?

I got a prepay on the Ultra, and I don't mind waiting for a few days to see if anything happens over the weekend, but why NEVER? You can't say that they are too high end. CompUSA has sold 5950s, right? Are the XT PEs not going to be sold in stores? Just does not make sense to me, but I never claimed to be omniscient...

Did your friend hook you up and let you buy one (or a few)??

If you read the thread you would know I obtained 4. :) Two Ultra and two GT.

You don't have to buy it. I'm keeping you informed.....

the problem is that Crap USA f*cked up when they didnt put any exclusions in their "30% off all PNY cards" advertisemnt. so now, Crap USA knows that they'd be taking a major bath on a $500 video card so they arent willing to own up to their advertising mistake.

again, typical Crap USA bullsh*t.

you should see our local store when they have their 6 hour, midnight madness sales. just like clockwork, they will have 201 different pieces of paper plastered all over the front store's glass with retractions about how this deal got printed wrong and how that deal got printed wrong.

it happens ALL THE DAMN time.

Anyone worked with Business Sales before? When something is Internet Only - can they get it and sell it to you?

You said in your post on in page 3 that you told him to hold 4 for you. I wanted to know if the new developments have impacted you at all. You did answer my question though. How did you get him to snag you a GFUltra? I mean I couldn't get 1 and you got 2 plus 2 GTs. Lucky you have that friend I guess.

It helps to have friends in high places.....and be there for him when he goes through a God awful divorce and loan him your spare bedroom for a month....

A few vid cards was the least he could do. :p

Before someone starts to speculate...no..I wasn't being a greedy bastage....I gave the two Ultra's to my younger brothers as gifts (they argued they would see more use out of them then I)....gave a GT to my best friend from Austin...and the last GT I kept.

Walked right into another Compusa here in CA, the San Rafael store to be exact, and prebought another one. the Sales Manager tried to give me hell about it, but I calmly told him that it didn't say in stock anywhere. He told me it did, then read me some thing about their unmatched guarantee. I was, of course, not trying to pricematch, so it didn't apply. he got depressed, hung his head, and told the person to do it for me. Got me another GT, this one's going to Texas for a fellow [H]'er.

Type of Concern: Misinformation

Have you spoken to a Manager in the Store? Yes

------------------------ Details ------------------------
I am so upset i can barely type this complaint. I have
been looking for 314102 and/or 313398. You people dont
have your act together, its impossible to find either one
at any of your stores. You put an advertisement that
started last Sunday saying " 30% off all PNY video
cards". Can any be found ? NO , they are sold out. Sold
OUT? thats such a lie i cant believe the excuse given.
Sold out? ive been trying to buy them since Sunday the
27th !!!!!!!! I have been calling every dam store in
California. NOT a single call back to me after leaving
messages. The ad is CompUsa's mistake and an appology is
not even close to what i want. I want either card, is
what i want. -->Cell number was here <--

---------------------------------------------------------

SO :) it appears that the 30% off does not apply to 'only stock on hand' items...
nothing even mentioning it. I really like the "all prices subject to price changes and availability" ... oh scare me huh ? ok ill just prepay for it like i did yesterday , ok ?
:p that way i dont even apply to that wicked we-todd'd reply. :D

woah, hold on there Skippy.

I wasnt knocking on you man. I was merely saying that Crap USA could care less about people sending them hate emails.

Does anybody have any good, solid information as to when these cards are coming in? I'm not talking rumors here, but good information you can back up with documentation or something.

What you failed to "read" was those were 50 that were already sold. :D so they didn't lie to you.....For those are are not aware....the CompUSA superstore in Mesquite, TX is the one that handles the Internet sales etc.

Again...Ultras will never be available in stores and will be web only. The GT's that were sold will be honored....but has also been changed to web only on the website. This is per my op manager friend with CompUSA. As can be noted...everything he has told me and that I have let ya'll know as come to pass......100% accurate.

Sorry, but bull crap.. no way the ultra would be web only.. do you know how stupid that sounds?

Actually, for a high cost, low margin product like that, it does make sense... at least at the launch. They might see it as too much of a risk or the volumes just aren't there to carry the inventory. That's why you see an assload of 9200SE's in the store, but only one placeholder box for the 9800XT.

I was at a CompUSA in Pleasanton CA and they said they were going to get cards (Ultra
and XT's) around August, and they didn't to Pre-Orders.

They said there was a shortage of GDDR memory that these cards use. :(

Divine_Madcat....prior to walking into a thead you know nothing about and calling bull crap...make sure you are aware of the facts....

I have insider information to what is going on in CompUSA....as anyone who has been actually following this thread would know.....everything I have said has occured 100%. So the only thing stupid would be you making comments about something you know nothing about....

Gargoyle_Hunter said:

You hit the nail on the head.....thats the problem...they can't get them fast enough to justify sending them to distro...then shipping them yet again to store sites....for now (subject to change) they will remain web only. If ou follow every comment I have made in this thread people like Divine_Madcat would know and realize ....I let ya'll know about the Ultra being web only well before it occured.....

I'm trying to help you all out....not waste you or my time feeding you bull shit....I have better things to do.....

To answer both these questions....I talked to my Op Manager friend again about it earlier...he has a meeting at 7 AM and he will check inventory. They received 50 yesterday that are already accounted for and sold...he said they also had another "pallet" that had not been even entered into the inventory system....but simply signed for on delivery....

Thats means it not even in the systems yet.....he will confirm with me in the morning...as soon as I know I will post.....good or bad I'll let ya'll know...

ALL RIGHT!
I lived in Pleasanton for 18 years, and I never knew anybody else from here was there!
That's AWESOME!
High School? Street? Age? Name?

I never stated it was your "first post in this thread"....I really could care less if you've posted 50 times....that isnt the point now is it? Your "involvement" as you try to put it is not contributing to this thread making comments as your one earlier...regardless of how "stupid" it may sound to you....its the facts.

Well, seeing that you made it a point that i "walked into a thread", you DID make the point about posts. Illregardless...

I too have a friend in Comp, and have been told the opposite. The cards will be in store, just like EVERY other series behind them. And right now, i see no proof behind your "facts".. all i see is a screwed up card launch by PNY/NVIDIA, and not many people know much right now...

Your friend is misinformed...

Your "requirement of proof" is really not my concern....keeping those [H]ardforum members within this thread effected and concerned informed is...like I've already stated....everything I have stated...several days in advance in fact...has occured just as I stated......

Blackwind, I know this isnt about the gefore 6800 ultras, but do you know anything about the status of the x800xt's they no longer seem to be listed on compusa's website, I preordered one but now im perplexed.

Funny you should ask.....I have actually been inquiring about that as well because my goal...is to replace the 9800 Pro I have with a x800 Pro if possible. Going to call him in about an hour when I get back from the gym and will update on both the 6800 and the x800 if possible...I know they are expecting the Pro but no idea on the XT.

UPDATE

He just called me. :D Ok heres the deal.....CUSA ordered and received 250 x800 ATI cards the first batch. They sold out in one weekend via web and retail store. They have a second batch of 250 incoming as we speak. They expect that batch to be a mix of both Pro and XTs. The sku number for the XT is 313032....fyi. They usually receive Saturday deliveries as well so it all could actually arrive today. They were supposed to have gotten them end of last week.....

PNY....another 50 is supposed to arrive today. This gives you an idea on how scarce the 6800 gpu is ....thats the highest allotment they can order at a time and PNY can commit to. He will also check the Ingram Micro system later when he has a chance...

Again, just an FYI....Ingram Micro is the worlds largest VAR of software, hardware and applications.....they actually supply CompUSA with products....when you order online if you ever see a sku that is longer then 6 digits and may start with a 5...thats actually coming direct from Ingram.......not CompUSA. :D

Yeah, staples and some other stores get their PC stuff from Ingram Micro.

I'll be taking one last shot at this tonight in northern NJ (taking a 1 hour trip to visit relatives).

So basically you are saying at the rate compusa is getting the cards (GT and Ultra = only 50?) the people who have gotten in on the GTs will get them sometime around september? (50 cards a week seems awful low)

What ever 6800 cards CompUSA has gotten, they haven't given any to anybody yet. I just scored a 6800 GT for $280 at the Culver City store. We fought the LAX traffic and traveled out of the valley to the store. It wasn't all that hard, but their stock now shows -5 cards with 6 on order. W00T!

Hmm, that's strange... Are you working there or have a friend working there? I was at Culver City CompUSA earlier today, around 1pm, and they had no 6800s in stock. One guy said they expect to get something next week. Are you sure it was Culver City store and not somewhere else? Can u post a copy of the receipt to prove them (at the store) that they have those 6800gts in stock? Thanks!

No. I'm saying that at the present rate thats the best they can get from PNY suppliers. They have requested 250 allotments just like the ATI's but can't get them in those quantities.....basiclly ordering was told.....you can order 250...but it may be a month or two....so they are ordering 50 at with apparently is an easier order to fill....

Yep, it was the Culver City store. If you asked to look up the card in the computer, it came up as -4 (-5 after me) with 6 on order. I forgot to say that I only got a prepay for the card. We talked with the Assistant Sales Manager who was pretty cool, but didn't want to give us the deal. A red-shirt talked with the Sales Manager and the guy automatically knew he had to give us the deal, and did. The receipt shows the time as 1:47 PM. I would post it but I don't have a scanner.

I suspect the cards have arrived in the back, but are not in the computers. I bet on Monday morning, I'll check the store's stock through the website and see it available... phone rings, and I take a trip down to get my card.

ya im number 4 on that list. someone before me ordered three at once. i might see you there when they come in ... whenever that is.

Just checked the ads for this week on their website and nothing on the 6800s. I bet they try to keep them web-only for as long as possible.

The ad ended today, so...

I think the cards will be delivered some time next week... maybe Tuesday? Hoping!

Tuesday... that'd be a nice birthday present for me! Congrats to all those that were able to prepay for their 6800 series cards at the 30% off, which includes myself. One question... did anybody end up with actual cards in their hands?
