XDA always gets more into the weeds than a lot of the superficial reviews

Battery Life and Charging

The Google Pixel 5 set a very high bar in battery life, and it’s a shame to report that this time around, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is only just average. Android 12’s battery stats reporting only reports stats over 24 hours rather than from the last charging cycle, though I would guess that I’m getting around five hours of screen on time daily. It gets me just aboutthrough a full day of heavy usage, but I definitely need to pay attention to the battery life of my phone quite a bit in order to taper my usage if required.

I have to question what exactly they're doing to get 5 hours SOT. I mean, there's a youtube video in this thread showing pretty heavy usage and the Pixel 6 gets 8ish hours (vs the 13 Pro Max's amazing 10.5ish hours but within spitting distance of the s21 ultra's 8.5ish hours).

Everything points to the Pixel 6 having good but not super battery life like the 13 Pro Max.

Seems most reviews are for the 6 Pro right now, and fewer for the regular 6. But I'm sure this week lots more will review the Pixel 6. But the few I've read on the regular Pixel 6, it seems to have better battery life than the 6 Pro.

Just kinda bummed the battery life on the Pixel 6 Pro per today's reviews, say it's good, not great, and certainly not iPhone 13 Pro Max amazing, which I wasn't expecting at all, the 13 PM battery life is out-of-this-world GREAT. But the 6 Pro seems average to good for battery life. Oh well...

But is the regular 6 much better on battery than the 6 Pro, or just a bit better?

Looks like just a bit better. So still not as good as the 5a which is really too bad.

Google doesn't seem to default to nor allow changing to 1080p like Samsung does so keep that in mind when comparing the P6P head to head with the S21 Ultra.

I'm amazed MKBHD and Mr. Mobile haven't dropped their reviews yet.

Still on the fence on waiting for BF sale or combo deal so I can hand the Pixel 5 down to the wife.

We'll be a family of Pixels if I replace her Note 9 with one. Son has a 3a XL and daughter just got my old 2 XL that still works great.

2XL was the last great pixel phone IMO. Me hopes the 6 pro is great as well.

Bah, I ordered the 6 now you guys are making me think I should have ordered the Pro. Since I'm replacing a 7t I think I will be ok but now I'm scratching my head.....
Not too worried, coming from 7t as well and just not a fan of curved screens.

I'm amazed, though by now probably shouldn't be, by the constant focus on the camera. Camera is maybe the 5th or 6th most important item for me on any phone. Guess I'm just in the minority on this one.

It's one of the important factors to many people.

Personally, I hope that I'll get better battery life than average because that's one of my important factors, enough that I'm actually somewhat wondering if I should wait for next year and the X2, A710, A510-based SoC's for next year.

I though this was a very interesting comparison. I'm not going to say what was surprising. See what you get.

Yeah totally unbiased per the channel that covers 99% apple products. I'm sure they have no horse in that race.....

(also anyone who has to stress that they're unbiased... Is usually biased. Just how these things work)

Oh, I don't think they're unbiased or even picked a necessarily fair set of scenarios to test in. But it's still interesting to see the results of where the Pixel 6 Pro does struggle in.

For video comparisons, I'm going to reserve judgement to when I get my unit and test it myself with an updated camera app. Some reviewers are getting really ugly saturated colors while others don't so that's really strange.

Thank you was just wondering myself that exact same thing why is so much focus and the reviews majorly talking about the cameras?

I don't mean just this new pixel but every smartphone it's always about the cameras mostly.

Like honestly yeah I want a good camera and I take a few photos here and there but it's certainly not my number one decision maker when buying a new phone it's certainly down the list for me it's smooth fluid UI good battery life good support and updates bright colorful screen and then the camera

Most people taking photos with their phone just line up basic shots with the default settings. You can spend 10 minutes at any amusement park, tourist attraction, or random party and see it. There are absolutely some folks that line up professional-level shots regularly, but they're not necessarily the majority. It's the quick default photo that matters and that's what I want. Something that takes normal 'ol photos that look good and don't require much beyond lining things up. My previous Pixel was damn good at that, and most iPhones do as well.

Think Instagram, Facebook or any other of the myriad of social media sites. Pictures are everywhere on the web and the best camera you have is the one that is with you.

Whether taking pictures/videos of your kids, spouse, pets, whatever. You don’t have to look far to find people using their phone in every situation imaginable to take pictures and/or videos.

Z, sounds like you are describing the iPhone…. Just kidding, but not really.

I had the Nexus 6P, loved that phone. Very unique design. And yes the Pixel 6 Pro is giving me 6 P vibes :)

Agree. Let the Phone's auto mode figure it out :)

Screw it YOLO. Ordered the 6 Standard. With the freebee my wife can use them or she can get my current buds and I will take the new A buds. Don't think BF will match this level of discount. Ship date shows Nov 6-9 atm for the seafom Green and olive buds. If I like it, I will give the 5a 5g to the wife and retire our One Plus Pro devices. Do like the slower updates on Tmo version and 11 was a disaster on the 7 Pro.

Something unexpected just happened to me on YouTube. I got some notices of responses to a comment I posted on the new iPad Mini, about a month ago. Turns out, they were from a couple chicas who posted explicit videos available only through YouTube Premium. I've never been a subscriber to YTP... until now. When I bought my 6 Pro through Google Fi's Pixel Pass, one of the perks I didn't notice was free subscription to YTP. Guess I need to be a little more careful when I comment on videos from now on. :ROFLMAO:

Plan on giving those Pixel headphones to m'lady, who has an iPhone. Anyone know how much functionality she'd be missing out on?

Dave just dropped the review. Its an average phone, nothing special. Tensor soc is still a few gen behind Apple and its ok.

Are you referring to Dave2D? If so, you're completely mischaracterizing his review. His complaints are that the camera isn't as good as he hoped. He likes everything else.

In the camera... which he says is good, but is just equal to cameras in other top phones. He does not say the P6 Pro is "an average phone, nothing special."
Again the regular pixel 6 is the phone to get. Also give Google time to get the new sensor optimized. Also video gets the needed bump

I'm glad the Pixel 6 appears to be a solid high-end phone, but at the same time... that camera tech could clearly have been put to better use, even in still photos. It's just not what you'd expect when an expert in AI image processing makes a big leap forward in sensor tech. I've noticed a common theme in camera reviews: one of Google's biggest camera problems is its inconsistency. Color reproduction and features available with one camera aren't available with another.

Apple certainly isn't perfect, but one of its strengths is consistent output. Change between the normal and wide-angle lenses on an iPhone and you can expect the same general color accuracy and baseline image quality. It looks like it was shot by the same phone, and you'll get 4K60 on every camera. That kind of trustworthiness should be a focus for Google in the future.

Unless you're living in the field in China, then there is no point to having real-time translation engine in the phone.

For everything else using the Tensors Google has always had a history of half-assing it!

And now they have made a phone so massive it's unsaleable to it's previous customers - the Pixel 6 is massive compared to my Pixel 2.

Weighs over 40%% more, and is larger in all three dimensions (than the previous Pixel 5, or my Pixel 2)

All phones are massive. Just the trend. Also the switch to the taller aspect ratio makes this worse. Also the built in translator can be very useful for traveling and even every day uses(IE Spanish to English) But at least its doing this locally on the phone which is pretty cool. Lets hope Google refines some of these features over time and they stick to there custom SOCs like apple did.

If that i your only excuse then you're not adding anything to the "reasons why you should buy this phone"

If the Small phones don't sell, can someone please explain for the class why the Pixel 5 has been sold-out for months? I'm hoping the massive invasion up-top means the 6s will be Pixel 5 / 4s sized
