One thing that I really hated with the optical scanner on my ROG2 was that in bright direct sunlight, the reader had a lot of trouble, becoming just about unusable. I wonder if the Pixel 6's scanner avoids this problem that the first generation scanner had.

Google Support wrote If you're having trouble scanning your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro fingerprint in bright, outdoor sunlight, cover the fingerprint sensor while you firmly press and hold your fingerprint on the sensor. <<>>

My Pixel 6 wallpaper.

I like this one that you chose best of all. The artistic rendering of the tree and the background color is beautiful, and the icons are positioned perfectly to the right and left of the tree trunk. The black color of the icons also complement the yellow background and the coloration of the tree.

Totally agree. I got lucky on finding the right wallpaper, a bit looking, and knew it was great. I edited the photo three times, making it a little bit darker deeper color each time but the fourth time it made it too dark and then the at a glance and network indicators turn white. Not black anymore so I had to go back one

Well, you sure did a nice job in finalizing the color. I like the balanced spacing of the elements too.

Considering it as a security concern if your phone is lost or stolen is a valid concern, in which case you can elect to not have the lock after screen timeout set longer. However, It makes perfect sense when using your phone at home.
Excuses that one doesn’t need to find with another phone

The fingerprint takes about 1/2 second, but I've never had it not work. I set it up for both thumbs and both forefingers. Just put my finger there and wait 1/2 second. If I counted all of the times I used it over the course of a day, I might've inconvenienced myself all of 15 seconds. I'll take that vs. spending a weekend trying to hide/disable Samsung's apps or creating an iTunes library that sorts and syncs things in a logical manner.

Because a couple of hours of inconvenience is worse than than the something you interact with over entire lifetime of the phone. /s

I've been called android fanboy and Apple fanboy. Just calling it like it is. That fp sensor is utter shit, and Google shouldn't have used it when it's not ready for prime time. Fix that in the Pixel 7, and we'll revisit this. Also please fix the horrible video camera while you're at it, but this is not as a big deal-breaker as the under-display fp sensor problem which is something an user has to interact with every use. I don't understand why Google opted for an inferior optical sensors rather than years-tested ultrasonic sensors like the ones Samsung use. Stop cutting corners, Google.

Having tried both phones the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6. I will say the 6 Pro definitely feels and operates like a premium flagship to me. It does seem ever bit smoother and a tad faster. Is that because of the 120hz display or more RAM? Everything else is the same on the regular Pixel 6, plus runs a lower res screen, so it should be equally as fast right?

As far as the size difference, that's total personal preference, if I worked from home and didn't really go out and about much, yeah I would probably keep the 6 Pro, but I'm on the run and on the go a lot everyday and I need something more pocket-able and portable, plus those curved edges almost seemed pointless to me. For me, the Pixel 6 is the sweet-spot.

What do you use iTunes for?

The only thing I use it for is encrypted backups so I can transfer the image with passwords and data over to a new iPhone.

Eh, I'm not letting Google go for screwing up the optical scanner in the Pixel 6 but even as of the S21 Ultra, the ultrasonic scanner is considered to be the inferior choice compared to the optical scanners in other phones like Oneplus which are more accurate, much faster (as fast as the capacitive rear sensors in fact) and work better with screen protectors.

Google picked the right technology for the scanner but somehow they implemented it far worse. The Oneplus implementation isn't affected by bright sunlight and dry fingers only have reduced accuracy (like capacitive) instead of becoming nearly useless like Samsung's (Qualcomm) ultrasonic scanners.

I have a digital photo collection going back 20'ish years, hundreds of eBooks, 3,000'ish MP3's, and at least a few dozen movies. Getting all of those things on an iPhone and having them sort in any semblance of order is a challenge. The MP3's work mostly fine (since that's what iTunes was originally built to do), everything else...not so much. On an Android I just grab the folders from Windows and drag 'em over.

That's why I have my Pixel 1 still. All my photos are instantly available on any phone I switch to including iPhones.

I'm retuning my 6 Pro for the standard 6. The more I used the 6P, the more trouble I had whenever I typed at the edges. I guess it's one of the disadvantages of having big hands. I also dropped the Pixel Pass option. I'd rather spend $9/month for 1TB storage than $57/month for 200GB storage, YT Premium, YT Music Premium, and Google Play Pass.

An unexpected bonus was that I got $110 trade in for my 3XL. When I tried the trade in with the 6P, I was offered only $65. (y)

Yet another example of how stupid curved glass is. Who even finds it better in terms of actual use if even people with large hands find it troublesome?

Only model in stock was Stormy Black. It'll go into a case, so I won't see cool colors, anyway.

I like the idea of clear cases for good-looking phones like the P6, but the reality of them (trapped debris/grime inside, yellowing, etc.) makes them a non-starter for me.

How bad was it? My 6 came in today and I'm considering returning it.
Fingerprint reader under the screen, stupidest fucking concept ever. Put a screen protector on? Hope it doesn't mess with it! Want to unlock your phone before you can see it? Too bad!

Anyone else having issues with a screen protector? My fingerprint works like 1/50 tries. Adding multiple instances of each finger doesn't seem to help. Basically unusable. Super annoying.

Just read all the comments. Per xda you need a super thin screen protector or none at all but there are ways to help:
Increase screen sensitivity then reboot
Scan your fingerprint before putting your screen protector on
Add 2 scans of your finger.

These worked okay, maybe a small increase in accurate readings

Then someone said if your hands are dry put lotion on and rescan.

I didn't even try to rescan, just putting lotion on I went 7/8 on successful attempts, whereas last night was more like 1/50 or honestly 1/100.

I did rescan my fingers to be safe and it seems to be working quite well. I'll remember to buy these https://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-MilitaryShield-Protector-Designed-Anti-Bubble/dp/B09C1JWHYM screen protectors in the future, someone from xda said they worked better.

Samsung Internet Beta with Dark Mode enabled looks great on the 6 Pro. Plus it's an insanely smooth and fluid browser.

Still have my Pixel 6 Pro Cloudy White, and my Seafoam green Pixel 6.

Personally I find the Pixel 6 a much easier phone to just pick up and go, throw in my pocket and run. Whereas the 6 Pro is just too large or almost fragile feeling, need to more careful grabbing it. But it is a more premium phone with a better display. And content looks great on it.

My opinion, the Pixel 6 Pro best if you work at home mostly and don't go out much. But if your on the go and run around a lot then the more pocket friendly Pixel 6 is better.

One interesting thing, the battery life seems a bit better on the smaller Pixel 6. Not sure why that is?

So if I have to make a decision right now, gut feeling, which phone am I keeping...Pixel 6 in Seafoam green. It just feels more Pixel, more Google-ish, I like the minimalist design of the squared off look and bezel borders, gives it a solid thick strong look, but minimal, not flashy, plus feels confident to hold. The 6 Pro curved edge screen seems to offer nothing and serves no purpose really, the rounded edges almost act like bezels themselves, there's really no content shown on them, plus a shadow is always present on the bend of the curved edge, almost seems like a bezel then.

My dream, Google should have made the regular Pixel 6 with similar specs as the 6 Pro, give it the LPTO 120hz display tech, give it 12GB RAM, and the same size larger 5,003mAh battery, and the extra zoom lense, and keep everything the same as is with the flat screen and comfortable size. That would've made this easily the number smartphone of 2021.

With some of the early reviews, they've been posting follow-ups that the battery life is improving (on both the normal and pro) after a week or two. They're chalking it up to smart battery function learning your habits and the frequency you use certain apps. I feel like my battery life has been solid since day 1 (on par with my previous S20+), but it's still improving further. I'm a big fan of an audio player called PowerAmp and it reported that the phone had killed its background services via a battery saver. That's actually exactly what I want, so I think that's kinda cool.

Here's a question that's kinda/sorta related to the Pixel 6. Has anyone been able to make Facebook Messenger consistently receive SMS messages and alert you for all of them? For the last year it's been spotty as hell. The messages seem to show up, but about 1/2 the time Android won't alert you. No noise, no notification, nada. You just open the app and there are randomly texts just sitting there that you weren't aware of. This is across 4 different phones and even two different wireless carriers. It's been a problem since roughly this time last year. Anyone else have this and know of a solution besides having Messages as your SMS client? I liked having everything in one app.

It's funny how I consider the regular Pixel 6 a small phone now. To me it's actually the perfect size, not big, not small.

Like when I had my iPhone 12 Pro Max, that thing was a beast crossing that border of almost too large. But the regular 12 Pro is too small for my liking. So if 6.7" is too big for me ( Pro Max / 6 Pro ) but the 6.1" size of a iPhone 12 Pro or 6" Pixel 5 tiny to me.

So what's the mid size between a large 6.7" and a small 6"/6.1"? That would be like 6.3" or 6.4" which is Pixel 5a and Pixel 6 size, I have all three, the 5a and 6 and 6 Pro. And the 6 Pro is just a no go for me, gigantic tablet almost, or maybe I just hate curved edges display, just looking at them makes me go, ugh stupid. Or maybe because I think of Samsung Galaxy when I see the silly rounded edge screens, and I hate Samsung phones, would rather take an iPhone ( and I totally dislike iOS )

Sorry for the long winded post. Just my thoughts right now.

In Portrait mode you can shoot in 16:9 or 4:3. What's the recommended setting?

Here's both settings;

Went to the dog park this afternoon, took both phones the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Tried my best to take the same exact shots in same location best I could;

So FedEx Home Delivery service is just a hot mess currently, right?
  • P6: dropped at OnTrac in SoCal 11/4 8p (<2 days ago), already in-town this morning and currently out for delivery.
  • Earbuds: dropped at FedEx Chicago 11/3 7:30a (3+ days ago), still there.
Maybe don't use FedEx for your holiday gifts, people.

Back on my 3XL until the 6 is delivered. After a week with the 6 Pro's curved screen, it's amazing how much better it feels to have a flat screen, again. Glad I tried the 6 Pro, but I can't wait to get all the goodness of the new Pixel with a nice flat screen. (y)

The wait for these phones has been hard, and seeing some of the issues makes me sad. I bought Pixel 2's for my mom and I in Nov 2017, and my sister got one shortly after seeing ours. All three phones had been awesome for so long, and there hasn't been a Pixel worthy of replacing them until the hype of the 6.

This summer my mom's had a toilet incident and I got her into an S21 because she wanted a great camera and couldn't wait for a P6. She absolutely hates it. The interface, the apps, the camera. Her Pixel 2 took better everyday pics than her good camera, and the S21 is worse side-by-side. I've never seen her rage so hard over something.

Three weeks ago I dropped mine from a couple feet up, no worse than I've done before with the same good Spigen case. It shut off, battery puffed up like a bag of microwave popcorn and the screen was being pushed off. I had to use my wife's old S8 while I sorted out rescue vs buy new, the curved screen and Samsung-ness drove me bats (and I loved my S5 before). Wanted Pro screen/camera but hate curved screens, same as everyone else. Spent $180cdn on a new battery and screen and finally have the P2 running again. Having actually spent time with a curved screen now, I'm leaning more towards the regular 6. How often have I used zoom with my P2? Rarely. I use my S5 as a GPS lap timer on the bike at the track and it's failing hard, so the refreshed Pixel 2 will not go to waste.

My sister has been extra careful with her P2 through all of this. She's waiting for me to settle on which P6 so she can get the same again.

TL;DR: Pixel 2's are great. Samsung boo. Trying to get myself over the Pro's goodies so I can just get the P6 I'll be happier with in the end. I'll have more rage to deal with when whichever new phones show up and put an S21 to shame. I'm glad to see that other people are happier with the regular 6 vs the Pro.

A Pixel 4a or 5 would be a better direct replacement for a Pixel 2, especially with respect to size and weight.
