Pretty cool. Real brain cells

"We anticipate OI-based biocomputing systems to allow faster decision-making, continuous learning during tasks, and greater energy and data efficiency. Furthermore, the development of “intelligence-in-a-dish” could help elucidate the pathophysiology of devastating developmental and degenerative diseases (such as dementia), potentially aiding the identification of novel therapeutic approaches to address major global unmet needs."

Neat, I remember reading about attempts to use salmon brains but this would open the door to many new possibilities

This is some seriously scary shit.
In a sci-fi utopia, this could be an excellent computing solution to help humanity on a global and even galactic scale.

We, however, live in a dark cyberpunk dystopia where greed and yearning for power runs rampant, and such a thing could be used to imprison and torture human beings in ways only the 1980s described.
The Lost Children (1988) described this exact thing happening to human beings, with each layer of personality and memories being physically sliced away from their brains until only the needed computational areas remained, yet the person continued to exist...

This is true unending horror that will come back to bite everyone one day. :borg:

From the article:
In parallel, we emphasize an embedded ethics approach to analyze the ethical aspects raised by OI research in an iterative, collaborative manner involving all relevant stakeholders.
And there it is - when the word "stakeholders" is included you damn well know that ethics are out the door in favour of profits.
