Same for VRR support. Not sure why they're dragging their ass on it. I know not many people have TVs with VRR support, but mine does damnit and I want it enabled right MEOW.

That bundle I pre-ordered has Mile Morales and NBA. Two games I don’t want. My oldest will probably want to play MM, but he also probably isn’t gonna be allowed to play the PS5...

dbrand just posted their PS5 Dark faceplates for $49, as I also posted in HotDeals. Guessing these are going to sell out very fast.

Edit: first wave sold out in the first 20 mins. Second wave on sale shipping in March.

Edit: second wave gone in about another 20 mins. Third wave shipping in April up.

Edit: third wave sold out. Fourth wave for May delivery up.

Cute advertising and def tempting for my PS5, but not really worth $50 to me to make it all black. Now if I could get a black controller that would be much more tempting and preferable. I'll bet Sony will make the console and controllers black again on the slim or Pro model once those inevitably comes out. But I thought they would have offered their own custom plates too at some point given how easy they pop off, yet they haven't even hinted at this for some reason despite it being an easy cash grab.

I am surprised Sony themselves haven't got in on releasing different color plates. I wouldn't put it past them for making it white knowing a lot of people are not going to like. Then sell different color plates for $60 and even special edition plates for even more. Would be big money for something that probably cost less then a dollar to make.

Something fishy about all this for sure. Makes no sense, this is EASY "TAKE MY MONEY" territory with the limited release stuff they can do. All the fan boys would cream their pants. Wonder what it is, from Sony i mean.

They might not want to sell special side plates for fear of affecting PS5 "Special Edition" sales. IE: God of War 5 PS5 with exclusive GoW-themed side panels.

I see it as a combination of extremely limited supply (not much point to custom plates when the higher priority is making more PS5s) with Sony likely not being in a rush. Special versions are a common tactic to spark sales later in a console's lifecycle, not a few months in when demand is high!

This is what I am thinking, as well. I know that there are Japanese gamers in particular who always buy the limited edition consoles and will end up with 4 or more by the end of the console's life span. That is some big money, but I would imagine that they would make more money in total if they just did interchangeable shells instead. I am sure the profit margin on the faceplates would be much higher than it is with a console. After my PS3 died I would have loved to get my hands on that red God of War console they did, but that release was extremely limited.

I’m getting real impatient for my GameStonk bundle to get here. Teased me with an early delivery... still miffed the only bundle in stock when I ordered was the one with SqueakBall 2K1. I didn’t want to do physical copy of Demon’s Souls, but I do have a $20 certificate and I don’t like the taste of $70 for a game.

Sell/trade the game to Gamestop for store credit for maximum trade-in (so prolly like $8, lol) and put that credit along with the $20 gift towards a PSN gift card in the store, then buy the game digitally on the PSN store.

Anyone had any issues with Joystick drift like all gaming media is reporting on now? I have two DS controllers, one of which I'm using on PC and haven't had any issues with either of them. I doubt it could be nearly as wide spread as the Joycon drift issue already this early in its life cycle, but they've already apparently started a lawsuit over it. I kinda lucked out with my Joycons too though since neither set of mine have had any drift so far, but they don't get used nearly as much as my Pro controller for Switch games.

None on either of mine. That's with a couple hundred hours of use. Not saying it isn't an issue, but I'm totally in the clear. I had an Xbox One X pad that was drifting. I tried alcohol + Q-tips, but with no luck. I ended up just pouring a little bit of alcohol on the offending stick and leaving it upside-down. It actually worked, too. The same thing worked for a friend. At this point, I'm going to keep doing that.

Would be easier to just take the controller apart to clean it.

I've tried doing that with older controllers (PS3 and 360) and they never worked quite right again. Something was always rattling around or the controller would creak all of the time.

Pretty much what I plan to do if I ever have issues with any of my controllers/Joycons. I've repaired modern phones and tablets before and have the tools to do so, so I'm not too afraid of taking a controller apart and fixing it myself instead of waiting weeks to get a repair done or refurb replacement. I've seen thorough guides at least on how to repair the Joycons.

Huh, can't say I've ever had an issue with reassembling them. I've only taken apart on XB1 controller, but I have taken apart several 360 controllers.

I kept the PS5 order, and just received it yesterday. I am 100% happy that I did now that I have seen the performance improvement in PS4 games (even on my old 1080p 60hz Benq projector).

Ghost runs significantly smoother and it definitely looks better, even my wife noticed a difference.
Coupled with the PS+ collection of games that are included in the PS+ membership, the PS5 is really, really worth it. Our PS4 pro is going to move to the sunroom, so the kids can play their games on it.

My main gripe with PS5 is the crazy small SSD. I wasn't even able to transfer over the dozen game installs that I had on my PS4 Pro. It is rediculous that the PS5 system files take up ~158GB (825 advertised - 667GB available when new)

Even Win10 is only around 100GB. WTF is sony bloating this console with?!
So, the cost is really false, it is absolutely necessary to get an external high performance SSD.
I did a bit of reading & shopping and found the best bang for the buck drive is the Crucial X8 drive, 2TB is $220 right now. I considered getting a USB 3.1 or 3.2 enclosure and buying an Nvme drive separately, but this would have cost much more, with arguable little perceptible performance difference. I know I could have used one of the many spare 3-5TB external USB hdds I have laying around, but I wanted the faster performance.

So, what are you guys doing for external storage for PS5 now? Yeah, I know it can only be used for PS4 games, but I don't expect to be playing any ps5 exclusives for another year.

Don’t get the Crucial drive unless you don’t use rest mode. It doesn’t work correctly when using rest mode and you have to eject it from the console before shutdown. I did tons of research on this topic the past week and settled on the Samsung T5 and it came in today. I have the 2TB version that set me back $230 on Amazon. I’m happy with it and have no issues to report. It definitely improved load times a ton in most cases. I assume the T7 would be in the diminishing returns category with its 1050mb/sec rate based on my research.

Long story short: I suggest the Samsung T5. It’s tiny and you can fit it under the ps5 if sitting horizontal or lay it behind it. It has no compatibility issues and is a noticeable improvement over using a mechanical drive.

Well poo. Thanks for the heads up. It's too bad there's not an ideal storage solution still. Why didn't the NVME internal slot work at launch? Seems like a half-baked product when there's issues with external drives too.

Guess I'll have to return the X8.
