Nice tweet (re)confirming HDR coming this year in a forthcoming driver release :

And...

We plan to add support to R9 300/Fury/Nano Series over DP1.2, yes.

Now we need Adaptive Sync HDR screens!

Finally going to upgrade my monitors this year! :)

Yup, I'm super stoked for HDR screens! I know new GPUs are coming out, but finally having the combination of smooth frames with Adaptive-Sync, and the beautiful renderings of HDR has me much more eager for these!

Don't hold your breath, support in drivers says NOTHING about sluggish display manufacturers getting off their ass and providing more than the standard fare displays to the market. They still think 27" is like some grand size and not something like a 40" display.

It would be nice if they had 32-43" options, 5000:1 static contrast VA panels that supported hdr and freesync and relatively low input lag and latency in the display. I want to be proven wrong, someone please release this.

Not to put a downer on things but there are 3 things needed:
Monitor
Videocard
Game

They all have to support HDR.

On the TV side of things there some streaming services with content already :)
Yeah, TVs are more likely to get hdr earlier as some models already got released. But I can't imagine what the price will be for a gaming monitor with hdr. And also think about all those qc issues!

Not if they do the same thing as for TV with rec 2020. There is a feature how it tracks on monitors but the idea in games that it has to be programmed for. So the effect and zone available for it should work the same as what they are doing on TV.

If you have 3 monitors the idea is that even if they are 1000 nits 800 nits and 500 nits the same rules should apply to each monitor for each different spec.

Well, AMD already has experience working with panel manufactures for adaptive sync, HDR seems to be right up their alley. Also AMD drivers have been able to do the work internally for years already before downscaling. So full support this year for GPUs, and probably something similar for monitors with a trickle at first, then the floodgates will open once it becomes mainstream.

Not happening till next year!

They can't even do 4k 36"+ properly.. no freesync, or crappy panels; no nothing. Useless milkers.

I wonder if you could use the video cards with a TV for HDR10, that could hold me off until i get a dedicated monitor.

Actually many games support HDR already from what I read a long time ago. The developers currently have to redo the games to look good on our crappy monitors. I can't remember where I read it though. I think the article was about Fallout? Been so long ago.

Do we also need HDR aware operating system ?

AVForums Podcast: 6th April 2016
Around 15 minutes people from Spectracal explain what they are doing to get HDR working from media and hardware point of view.

For certain media it can vary quite a lot depending on hardware used it is not as simple as it sounds. If you can make it through the interview (which are Americans so it should be palatable for you Yanks) you would get a better grasp even if it is talking about non computer stuff.
