Official: Diablo 3 is Coming!

The class number wasn't set. I don't remember seeing that in the Faq yesterday and I did checked it. Nevermind now is known. Is the same number as DII

I had known about the 5 class thing since the announcement day, not sure if it was in the FAQ then but I thought it was common knowledge. Anyways it's good to have it confirmed I guess.

It's not confirmed. In a few interviews that I've seen videos of, Pardo (I think it was Pardo...might have been Morhaime) mentioned that it would be around 5 but that nothing was set in stone as of then.

I recall hearing it was five classes.
Maybe from their presentation slides and/or Jay said it. But wherever the source, I distinctively remember it was exactly five classes; no gray area.

A quick Google reveals that Jay said this:
It's a fresh start, we haven't finalized the final classes or how many there will be.

So... I don't know...
The official FAQ says five classes.

From Blizzard's official D3 FAQ:
How many character classes are included in Diablo III? What are they?

Five character classes will be included in the game, two of which, the barbarian and witch doctor, were revealed when the game was announced at the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational. The other classes will be announced at a later date.

It's just another user edited picture.
There's a billion of these pics floating around... I've posted all of them in this thread so far, but you might have to dig back through old pages.

The game play video looked really good. I can't wait to see more. Hopefully WoW won't influence the game too much.

I really like the after picture, it most certainly does have a better diablo feel to it, I most certainly agree!

I know everyone is saying they don't want WoW influence in the game but there is one thing from WoW I would like to see carried over.

Rare and Unique items, from bosses, rare monster, ect, should use the "Need and Greed" system that was implemented in WoW. It's so annoying when you lose an item because someone clicked on it frist =/. Especially someone who isn't a good friend of yours that takes something you might actually need and they don't. They didn't say anything about it in the gameplay video, but I hope it happens.

They're going with a per-user looting system. It's kinda like guild wars from what I gather, you only get to see what you can loot and only you can pick it up, so if you see a unique item lying there no one is going to ninja it from you.

Never really thought of the "What you see is your's" drop system until I heard them mention it at a dev panel. All the years I play RPG's and never thought of it!

It's genius...
:D

It's a system I first remember seeing in Mythos. Everything that drops is completely dependend on who is playing. Each player sees their own loot even down to gold and potions.

No more crowding Baal before the last hit and try to pick up everything the fastest?:(

Lol not funny man.

If this is true, I mean, truly per-user loot, then one annoying aspect of public games has been eliminated for me :D

This really depends on how it works. If its by hits, it can be rather unfair. I mean, if you play some type of support character that don't get many hits in, you can be rather ripped off. I hope they devise some sort of good plan for choosing who gets what.

Hmm, how bought damage dealt? And damage dealt would interact proportionally with equipped MF. E.g. only do 20% dmg, then you scale that to the % to drop along with your equipped MF?

Something like that I guess.

Probably Round-Robin.

If not that, then look for some user-set guidelines in making your parties.

Im hoping for the guildwars style, where its visable by everyone but locked for only 1 person to pick up, that way you can see what they got and try and trade them if you want it. Then im hoping for WoW's party options, so you can set it to round robin, random, Free for all, ect..

Hellgate used that system too, which is amusing since they tried to advertise HGL as a spiritual successor to Diablo2. They managed to screw it up of course, you couldnt re-drop loot you didnt want in multiplayer for anyone to pick up, had to go through a convoluted trade process.

D3 looks good so far. That witch doctor scarab swarm thing, goddamn. It got me to dig out and reinstall my 8-year-old D2 cds. And waste hours playing it last night...in singleplayer, since there was no way I was finding those cdkeys. At least you dont need the cd in the drive anymore.

Really, I miss botting in D2. They did a damn good job of killing it.

It was alot of fun building a character and working hard to write the scripts just right and playtesting and rewriting.

...Maybe I just miss the scripting... ?

You miss writing programs to play a game for you? A game being something that is apparently designed to entertain its player?

I really don't like the idea of specific drops for everyone. it reminds me of the bullshit instancing in WoW.

I hope they leave an option to have the old style, and they could make the incentive to leaving it on that there would be potentially better drops. So if you want to be safe you don't have the best chance at finding rare items.

I like this loot idea myself. The only thing i would hope is that if i drop something on the ground other people can see and loot it. I'd rather not see the loot drops from a kill for another player however, once the player picks it up then drops it is when it should be visible to all. Trade is fine but just dropping stuff in D2 and letting your friends pick what they needed was a lot quicker i thought.

If you feel that the d3 graphics need some work , or just a big diablo fan, check out this petition.

http://www.petitiononline.com/d3art/petition.html

After you read it, at least click on the view current signatures and look at the number, wait a couple seconds and refresh! Its quite interesting how many signatures its getting this quickly.

yea sign that petition if you hate the cartoony/light/colorful graphic. I hate how the blizzard team is mixing wow stuff into d3. The inventory system, skills and graphics...sigh :(

There are actually 2 petitions:

1. Change Art directions (gritty,gothic,diablo-like):
http://www.petitiononline.com/d3art/petition.html

2. Keep the Art direction (Colorful, wow-like)

Blizzard should take note.
You know who else should take note?
The annoying people on DiabloFans who keep complaining about those who don't like the graphics. They call us "whiners" and "we don't appreciate Blizzard's work". All sorts of BS reasons for us complaining about the graphics.

Honestly, I think its alittle late to change the game's graphics and such. If they did a complete overhaul, I'm sure it would cause a huge delay. And I don't feel like waiting until 2012 to play this game. I would like them to just release a quality game and then let us judge it.

I left alone my mind was blank
I needed time to think to get the memories from my mind

What did I see can I believe that what I saw
that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw in my old dreams were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me

'Cos in my dream it's always there the evil face that twists my mind
and brings me to despair

The night was black was no use holding back
'Cos I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
Was this all for real or some kind of hell
666 the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised
As they start to cry hands held to the sky
In the night the fires burning bright
The ritual has begun Satan's work is done
666 the number of the beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on I must inform the law
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream
But I feel drawn towards the evil chanting hordes
They seem to mesmerise me ... can't avoid their eyes
666 the number of the beast
666 the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I have the fire I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take it's course

duh duh duh ...duh...........YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blizzard should take note.

The suggested color schemes definitely look more pleasing and closer to the previous Diablo atmospheres. It's amazing how different it can look simply by changing its colors.

I don't agree with the lack of a light radius issue though. That was mostly an annoyance in D2 and was kind of a poor man's way of creating a dark atmosphere. With today's technology, you can probably create a dark creepy environment without having to sacrifice your field of vision.

Some high resolution textures should add more to the environment, I think the people who made the mock-ups tried to recreate that effect by oversharpening everything or adding grain. Even though Blizzard makes games with low system requirements, high res, gritty textures should be reserved for people who have systems that can handle it!

You may not know about us D2 vets, but once you know the game inside out, backwards - forwards, upside down and inverse on a different axis, you take a different pleasure out of the game.
For the record, I never 'programmed' much of anything. I wrote scripts... Ya know, AutoIt and the like. Some .NET when that came around. D2JSP, etc... That was all cheese balls to getting into the game and playing with packets. ;)

Playing with packets was always fun. :)

QFT after playing a game for several years (along with its prequeals (sp?)) you start to lose interest in certain aspects (such as game play )and gain interest in others (collecting perfect items, making the perfect build , becoming extremely wealthy so that you can do anything you want) And botting helped build a new aspect to the game. Yes, it did hurt the economy, not as much as duping, but it also made the competition more fierce and a struggle to become the best. (besides it leveled characters, without bots, alot of high level characters would never make it).

I believe it was 15 on jsp to get a bot key, id pay 100 for a working bot on d3 just because its like Christmas every day when you wake up or get home from work.

BTW? Can we mention other forums on here (gaming forums?) If so, i want to start links to all of the different d3 forums/sites (trade, hacking/botting, game play ect)
