What I am guessing is that like Keplar and even the gtx 750 ti and gtx 980, increasing the size and complexity of the card has no impact on the overclocking ceiling as long as heat is controlled.

E.g Keplar cards had an easy time reaching 1200 with boosts. The gtx 770 and the gtx 980 both reach those clocks. Maxwell's gtx 750ti and gtx 980 both reach 1400 boost rather easily. If anything, the gtx 980 gets higher clocks than the gtx 750 ti.

I suspect with titan x, 1500mhz clocks, particularly if someone beefs up the cooler on it will be possible.

These expensive cards from Nvidia are usually very underclocked. And unless we don't overclock, we need to take into account overclocking headroom for final performance.

Nvidia will not let you overclock cards past a certain point. They are now imposing limits and have been since kepler.

This does not mean they will for Titan X, but I am 95% sure it will be.

I stopped being able to max games out (at 1920 x 1080) on my 780ti when Far Cry 3 came out... That train has sailed.

This Beast will crush any garbage that AMD throws at it, no matter the performance. Why? It has a RAMDAC. The R9 390X does not. It's great having a fast graphics card. It's not so great when you can't actually use it with a Proper monitor and are stuck with a garbage LCD. I'd be better off with a GT 210 than a 390X because I would at least be able to use the computer for web browsing and documents with the 210.

Just fyi, graphics processors have had RAMDACs since the 1970s.

Most of them throughout the 2000s ran around 350-400MHz.
All it does is convert a digital signal to analog (DAC) for the video output, i.e. convert the digital source video to output on, say, VGA or composite.

I'm sure the 390X will have a RAMDAC as well.

I'm curious to see how 12gb works out. Is there anything in the pipeline that will even come close to using all that ram? Seems like overkill just to say we have more ram than your card.

On a side note I wonder if the cut down Titan if it will have the 970 type memory feature/bug.

That 12GB really isn't there for games, it's for rendering. Nothing coming down the pipe anytime soon is going to realistically max that amount of memory out. What I'm more curious about is the price. If it's at or around $1300 it will be a pretty great deal for professionals, let's just hope the card's VRAM isn't segmented.

If it indeed have professional use accounted for, I really doubt it'll be segmented.

But, even if it is segmented, talking strictly gaming, there may never be a day where we would see that segmentation impacting gaming in the forseeable future, unless they did something REALLY wrong (instead of having 3.5GB+0.5GB, they have 1GB+11GB or something...)

well 390x is still on paper (how it really compares to Titan X is still an unknown until the card is released), AMD isn't going to release anything to counter it until 390x, why would nVidia not make most of the money in the mean time?

it would seem they are gearing up for a launch next week, and if that's the case people most definitely have these cards and are using them right now. are these benchmarks legit? who knows. on paper, they seem accurate for the rumored specs. should find out next week though.

I find it more hilarious people are basically saying, "I told you so!" on obviously fake benchmarks. They could have at least made up a memory speed for the 390x.

I'm currently debating:
- 3x 980 Classies
- 1x Titan X
- 3x Titan X

I'm leaning towards 1x Titan X. I barely have time to play games, nevermind fiddle with the damn things.
