Jesus, not only all the math that went into that shot for wind, Coriolis, bullet drop, the effects of updrafts from firing over differing surfaces etc. That jihadi had to stand still for 10 seconds waiting for the round to get there. Outstanding shooting.

Which is the real take-away from this news: we're quickly getting into computer territory with these shots. There's a big difference between the snipers of old (Stalingrad, American Civil War, etc.) and what qualifies today (although actually the term was coined by Churchill). I'm not diminishing the achievement but when they say it'll probably never be toppled they're probably right...never toppled by a human. The more technology involved and required to make the shot, the less important the human element, which makes this a bit bittersweet.

Great first post, idiot.

What you posted is still moronic and not true.
The shooter and spotter wouldn't but you can bet PM Hairdo certainly will. Remember, if you kill your enemies, they win.

Great 2nd post. You just quoted yourself.

Thanks, getting the hang of this. does not change the fact that your post was moronic and not true.

Yet just about every week it is reported that some sniper from x country is pulling off wonder shots ironically against Islamic militant, like these guys look obvious in daytime? Lets also talk about the collateral, a shot at 2km is subject to x number of physics and if you get it wrong you take out civilians which in military law is like murder.

It may or may not be true, I just take this with a grain of salt.

If you had read the article;
The kill was independently verified by video camera and other data, The Globe and Mail has learned.
“Hard data on this. It isn’t an opinion. It isn’t an approximation. There is a second location with eyes on with all the right equipment to capture exactly what the shot was,” another military source said.

Sour grapes?

It's believable. Nothing says it was done in one shot, much like the other records it probably took multiple shots to lead into the target. Not like they can hear you shooting at them at that range....

Not long ago a British Sniper killed three ISIS insurgents with a single shot from 1.5km. This is all propaganda and hardly ever confirmed
If you miss someone by a foot with a 50cal it will still take their arm off and 1/2 their face. I've seen it, in person after the shot was taken... One shot can easily kill 3 men at once. Clueless snobs.

If a .50 BMG makes impact somewhere near you, you're going to be aware of it.

This.

Just shooting .223 in the backyard, seeing bullet fragments destroy a target next to the one you hit or a miss and how much ground get turfed up is crazy for such a small caliber round. I haven't fired a 50 yet though...

I would imagine there is enough energy to send bone from the first person into the one near them

Being Canadian I'm sure he apologized after he pulled the trigger.

We don't have a massive military culture here... we do seem to have some of the best shots in the world.

Read a book about George Beurling awhile back. He popularized combat flying deflection shooting, and taught deflection shooting after the war. He kept a book of math formulas he developed for aerial deflection shooting that he could calculate mentally. Spitfires had something like 11-12 seconds of ammo and he managed 4+ kills 3 times, he was shooting down other planes with as little as 6 bullets. He is also credited with the longest range confirmed spitfire kill in the war.. shooting down a 109 at 800 yards, almost twice the rated range of the spitefires guns.

Not long ago a British Sniper killed three ISIS insurgents with a single shot from 1.5km. This is all propaganda and hardly ever confirmed, kind of like Vasily Zaytsev killing 800 officers in Stalingrad, this is military propaganda.

The stats on some of these snipers is so far fetched, the thing about being a sniper is that every time you pull the trigger you give your position away, most military grade snipers give off sonic blasts that can triangulate the shooters position, hard to not eventually get compromised.
1. A .50 caliber BMG round has an insane amount of energy behind it. The .50 caliber round has a substantial amount more energy behind it than the ones you might be using to hunt a deer with. Imagine getting hit with a brick going faster than the speed of sound. Killing 3 knuckleheads huddled side by side with 1 bullet is quite feasible. If any body parts are overlapping where that bullet exits, its getting a massive hole in it.

2. This kill shot was confirmed independently by another group. The distance may be off by 10-20 meters, but not thousands of meters.

3. The snipers were almost 2.5 miles away. They were also in an area where there was active fighting going on. The enemy was already engaged in a fight, so they would be more conscious of shots being fired at them from much closer distance. For all they know the sounds they heard from any missed shots were from other's in the area.

4. The snipers were firing from on top of a high rise building amongst other buildings. This is also part of the reason the shot was so long. They had significant elevation advantage. Even if the insurgents knew the general vicinity of the shot, it would take them time to find them. When they had other troops bearing down on them I'm sure they don't have the time or resources to find the sniper. Even if the insurgents did find him, it's not like any of them would have a rifle capable of firing back at that distance.

Since some of you guys question the validity and necessary skill to pull off these shots, here's a video explaining these types of shots from a previous record holder.

Im guessing the other threads aboot this are behind the paywall....
and why do people keep say "apparently" and "if true"?
our Canadian shooters are starting at like age 5 shooting gophers in the eye with a pellet gun in a cow field...

You know how when you go out as a group and your older brother is jealous because you scored a really hot date with your polite manners and quiet ways? Yeah.

Never.
Us Canadians will immediately apologize for a stubbed toe, or a Taxi grabbed out of line, but if the guns come out, Yer fucking dead....good fucking riddance to bad fucking garbage !!!.

Given that the Government of Canada does everything but deny JTF2 exists, that fact that this is public is astonishing. That being said, when Canada comes to do business, we do business.

Well said.

10 seconds to hit the target. That is astonishing.

Pretty cool...be even cooler if he had to lead the target ;)
