Monster Hunter World Is Now the Fastest Selling Game in Capcom's History

Capcom has always sold a lot of games, but this time they have really outdone themselves with Monster Hunter World. They have reached the 6 million shipped mark faster than they have with any other game they've released. All of this and it's only out on consoles. Once this hits the PC market the numbers should boom even more. All you console players out there should chime in and let us know what you think of it. I'll grab it when it comes out on PC if the feedback is positive.

Monster Hunter World has been flying off the shelves by all accounts, with five million copies shipped in the three days following its launch. Capcom has also reported that units shipped have just reached the 6 million mark, making it the fastest selling Capcom game to date - and that's just on consoles.
 
I've never played a Monster Hunter game and was going to wait for the PC version but I didn't really have anything else to play and I heard so many good things about the game I said fuck it and grabbed the PS4 version. Between all the praise and the fact that it looks exactly like the type of game I'd enjoy I wasn't too worried about it, unfortunately, the game isn't really grabbing me. The systems and combat feel sloppy and most of the animations outside of the attack based ones are absolutely terrible. I haven't been able to put a lot of time into it so I'm going to give it one last go this weekend to see if it hooks me and if not I'll throw it on Craigslist or something. Maybe it's just the shit resolution and frame rate...

After playing Dragon's Dogma on both the Xbox 360 and then again on the PC a few years later and loving it both times I was hoping this would scratch that open world monster combat itch but so far it doesn't even come close.
 
It's a good game. Basically a long due overhaul to the standard monster hunter series as well as a lot of quality of life upgrades to make the game less grindy, but still have those epic boss battles. It's also a good thing they got away from nintendo's goofy online/match making system that requires friend codes and whatnot. You can just fire an SOS flare and get a bunch of randos to join in any mission you're having a problem with. Throw in built in voice and it's on par with most multiplayer games now a days.

Delayed PC release, which pisses me off though.

Monster hunter has been around since like 2004. Strangely enough, the attack style and animations of those attacks hasn't really changed very much since then. It's clunky at best and when compared to bloodbourne, dark souls 3, dragon's dogma it's very dated. If you compare it to other monster hunter games, it's hugely advanced, but compared to more modern games it still lacks in that department.

Still, chopping up monsters and using their parts for weapons and armor is still pretty much a fun grind.
 
I have a couple friends who are obsessed with this series. They really really dig this one. I couldn't get into the other ones, so I'll probably skip this one too. The controls and plot just always felt clumsy to me.
 
It's all right. If your not a monster Hunter fan it's not going to change your opinion of the series. My wife is absolutely in love with then so we have it and she plays it non stop some days. Myself, I have played 3 hours of it, it's a good game but the combat is not for me.

Yes. And that also means the game is selling well enough to warrant 6 million units out in the wild. Pretty much all publishers report shipped and not sold, though their total numbers also include digital sales since they can get an accurate count of those.

Or they overestimated the appeal of the game and mass printed the game. Oh I don't doubt this sold well. There still be a ton of none sold copies out their.
 
Great game, great series. Glad it is getting more widespread attention in the West. This really is the most refined entry in the series, especially for new players.

We have a couple threads over in the Console forum if anyone wants to do some co-op.
 
Digital Foundry's analysis made it look like a technical mess: Not only unable to hold 60 fps, even on an XBox One X or PlayStation 4 Pro, but lacking even a 30 fps cap.

Might be a great game, but I'll never know because crappy frame-pacing is a non-starter.

Pretty sure I can remember playing a Monster Hunter game on PS2 like 12 years ago. lol

Don't think it was very good, controls were super laggy or animation lock was obnoxious.


My friends been raving about this new one though.
 
This is my first Monster Hunter, but I am really enjoying it. Yes it is lacking a 30FPS cap, but I am loving the loop. I also love that changing weapons pretty much changes game since then they all play completely differently. So if you aren't liking the way the game plays, try out a different weapon. Also don't play it on base consoles since it can't even get to 30 FPS. On a Pro or an X it is usually in the 40s, or obviously wait for PC.

I'm playing on a Pro and every optional mode sucks. If you choose "frame rate" it looks like ass and still doesn't run all that well, if you choose either of the other options it runs like ass.

It seems like this is a very common thing this console generation. This entire generation has been a fucking disaster when it comes framerates.
 
For the PC? Does that mean also VR? Who plays 2D anymore!
 
I had previously bought the Monster Hunter Series for DS and 3DS and both times I couldnt stand it. The controls were terrible and the game was a tremendous grind with very little information. This game fixes so many issues with monster hunter and for the first time ever I dont plan on getting rid of it. Capcom has really nailed the DLC and support for this game (its all free) and after putting 40 hrs in I'm not even done with the story. Might be the game I enjoyed the most the last year or two.

You do realize that Sony paid for part (if not all) of the development of the VR mode for RE7 and had Capcom sign an exclusivity agreement right? While people assumed that agreement was up sometime in Jan, no one really knows what the terms are.

Well previously on a console you were lucky to get a solid 30 FPS...framerate was never really much of a consideration until recently.

Framerate has always been a consideration. Hyping up 60fps as a big marketing point is new, but it seems like framerate over-all is a lot less stable this generation. From the get go it seems like 90% of the games release on consoles this gen have serious framerate issues.
 
the hype is real and also the grind. destiny was enough for me. back to basics for simple minded folks like me....der
