So we seem to get weekly patches with win 10? I dont really see this as being a really bad thing or unusual.

Do all the testers for the windows insiders program just rock default installations and default settings? How do blatantly faulty behaviors like this get past that stage into any sort of stable release channel?

Seems like they need some Windows Insider program diversity changes ....get some people in there who hate microsoft products and windows features and maybe subsidize those people's time with free xbox subscriptions or something if they file regular reports.

microsoft doesn't listen to them anyways so it wouldn't matter. guarantee you they reported this and microsoft released it anyways.

an update caused the hardware to destroy itself? That would be surprising, since it's rare for windows to have some default hardware driver for bluetooth and most radios are controlled by firmware blobs from the manufacturer that control and manage power levels so even if a driver asked to exceed some max limit, the firmware would not allow it.

If that was what he intended to say what you said might even be funny.
But its clear he didnt mean the hardware had failed.
There are many ways of breaking functionality.

not permanently though. That's pretty clearly either misusing the word permanent or implying the windows patch caused his hardware to kill itself. The latter being pretty interesting if so, but the former is much more likely.

Yay. Guess it's time to re-visit Windows ME.
I'm on windows 98 its like 80 version newer then 10.

As for ME, Removing more dos support was a bad idea at the time. And the change in drivers caused a slot of user error with people installing older drives that broke the system. If people used it for what it was it really was not all that bad. Still i'll take 2k or 98se over it any day.

He hasnt had the use of it since with no prospect of getting it working again, to him it is permanent.

Me too, definitely. My first exposure to ME was when a friend ordered a brand new HP pavilion - with Voodoo4 GPU. Failure prone straight out of the box. After several days back and forth with HP and Microsoft it was established that the Glide drivers did not jive with ME. They sent a ASUS v7700 GF2 card as free replacement and all was right as rain. I ended up with the Voodoo4 (still running today), then got the entire box when my friend upgraded. Interesting comparing the two cards with both Win98 and XP in exact same system.

Back on topic ... thread makes me think of this:

Drivers were a big part of the problems ME had. I don't think 3dfx ever made a good glide driver for ME. There are good 3rd party ones however.

That's not permanent though. That's the hardware manufacturer not updating their driver, and unless the hardware manufacturer has gone out of business or stated that they're definitely never going to update it and not releasing the code for anyone else to, then the state of it not being functional is variable.

Additionally, there is the option of using a different yet current operating system and the hardware may function perfectly on those.

The hardware isn't broke permanently. The current version of windows just doesn't have a working driver for it.

In terms of security, this is probably the safest thing you could do.

Yes. Because the safest computer is one that won't work at all.

P.S. I had a dream that I wrote a help interface that replaced Cortana in Windows 10. It was modeled like a cartoon paper clip, with googly paper-clip eyes and a tip it could wiggle like a frond. It would speak to you through a speech bubble where it wrote replies.

That was Wednesday night. I haven't slept for almost 50 hours.

And they laughed when I went 6700k and Win 7 instead of Crap 10 and the 7700k

They only laughed in your imagination but in reality, no one cared what OS you used. :) All I can say is, good for you. Besides, there was not much difference between a 6700k and a 7700k, especially with all the security mitigation patches today.

Some update a while back permanently broke my mobo's Bluetooth. Thanks Microsoft!

Delete all the hidden bluetooth devices in the device manager. I had to do that when I swapped boards between two machines with existing Windows installations. Once I did that, Bluetooth devices worked correctly again.

I speak from experience with the insider program...i tested a number of "early releases and they had some serious bugs that wouldn't get fixed until like 2 releases after that......It was like they just experimented with builds until one worked......the program is a mess. One bug even messed up so bad you couldn't roll back to the previous build so i had to wait a few weeks to finally get a new build that fixed the old crap.....They hear people but they don't LISTEN to people.

I'm surprised anyone with half a brain installs patches and updates right away. Delay any updates/patches for a few weeks so that the rest of the public can beta test them and freak out first..... then no problems. This is nothing new or unusual and is standard practice for big business going back to the 90's.

"JUsT gO bacK tO DoS"

Love this strawman. Like that update earlier this year that was deleting data in the Documents folder, and the MS dudes were like "ya but people were complaining about XP too".

Well, my left half convinced my right half to install them and so..... ;) :D I have not had any issues with my personal machines so I just go ahead and do it.

Novell dos doesn't have these issues.

Really, what being complained about here? The fact that a huge conglomerate doesn't bend to the users will?

I loved Win 7, but eol and lack of security patches kinda kills it's usefulness.

Do I like Win 10? Not always, but it's current and suits my gaming needs, otherwise, I find different options.

Complain as you will about different OS's, but options are out there. Depending on needs.
