ESPN has made an announcement today that themselves, Disney, and the NFL have signed a multiyear deal to broadcast the Madden NFL Championship Series and future leagues surrounding the franchise. The agreement will broadcast two Madden-based leagues: The Madden NFL 18 Club Championship and the Madden NFL 18 Ultimate League.

Will be interesting to see how the format will look on TV. Big overproduced esports event vs. just showing it like it were a football game. Either way I'll forget about it, not watch it, and not be upset at all, however I know that there are people who are absolutely nuts for Madden, so maybe it will do well.

The agreement encompasses several ESPN and Disney networks. The Madden NFL 18 Club Championship at the Pro Bowl will be on ESPNEWS; the finals at the Super Bowl will be on ESPN2/Deportes; and the Ultimate League Championship final will be on ESPN2. In addition, episodic series featuring the players and the stories behind them will air on Disney XD and ESPN VOD.

They will need to do something about everyone making seven million player assignment adjustments before every play. It always looks janky and slows down the game.

At least that’s my experience trying to play Madden online :(

Lol ESPN betting on the only horse it kinda understands. Probably due to the backlash of them covering other eSports.

I can't wait till white bread America gets the cold shower that eSports are already bigger than the NBA.

Yeah? When is Madden NFL coming to the PC?

Shocked EA can get away with this.

So let me see if I have this straight. NFL viewership is been very low lately (I don't want to say all time low, I don't have metrics), so introducing airtime for video game football.... ehhhhhhhh I dunno

Heh, Madden may be more popular than the real thing now or likely in the next few years.

It's low for NFL standards, it still destroys essentially everything else on TV in ratings.

I don't think I've bought Madden since the garbage EA pulled with getting the exclusive license because they were threatened by the great, inexpensive NFL 2k5.

I miss NFL2K as well, played those on my Dreamcast! I find Madden to be.... wait for it... "madden-ing"! har har

last time I actually played madden was madden 1998 on the PS1.

I tried it a few years ago and now it's like a stupid football game on tv with the camera angles and commentators and recaps after every play.

no thanks.

So, in other words, it can be a football game without all the production costs. I think it'll do well on ESPN.
