Is it time to do something different? Ask for a merger?

Ok, we all know EVGA is where they are in such a short time due to the corporate sponsorship. We've had a good run with many teams in the past, but should we go to teams other than EVGA and see if they want to merge with us to hold off the EVGA corporate juggernaut? OCAU comes to mind for one. If they do I don't look at it as they quit their team, but that they see the obvious buying of number 1 by a large company. What say you [H]orde?

I also ask this since the EVGA mods say it won't matter one bit if we do it.

P.S. Fold the Frack On!!!!

meh, we don't need no stinkin' merger.

I think they only way they would merge would be if we went over to EVGA due to the corporate sponsorship. I don't see EVGA/NVIDIA rolling over just as they finally have made it to (but not yet!!) the top.

I dont really see us being able to hold them off/regain the lead unless we get more active folders. Unless the EVGA bucks program falls off after this year, I could see us maybe regaining first down the road.

I'm just throwing it out there to see if others that feel like us want to hold off the corporate bucks. I'd love it if we could get a couple of teams to join us to kick the brand fanboys in the nuts.

no hes referring to other teams merging to [H] not evga.. team evga is on their own and isnt welcome anywhere..

forget it

should of left what you said there..

I hear ya monkey. It's just not worth the fight with some people. You know what I mean?

Makes perfect sense IMO. Just has to be done right or it could be very messy.
I don't see it in the same category as a random/clueless 'lets all merge, it will be fun' because it would be done for a specific goal and there is a natural common bond (same enemy) that will help a lot.

This has been raised in the past as a suggestion. Unless my memory is off, mergers have not been permitted for a very long time.

If I thought it would work without all sorts of problems coming up, i'd support it. However this type of stuff just can't happen very easily. There would be issues of name, and plus people are really loyal to their own. There is no shame in being #2, because we know that we earned it.

there's 2 ways to look at this. #1 Sure coudnt hurt to ask could it? #2 if we did get enough help to hold off evga it really wouldnt be us holding them off. ill guarantee you this. ill have my 100k a day sooner rather than later!

IIRC, there were team mergers in F@H1 but can't remember if any were permitted in F@H2. If they were, probably only in the beginning.

I don't get why there would be a rule against team mergers... It's like a thought-crime.

Maybe there isn't, I can't say with absolute certainty. I just remember Stanford stating back way before the mid-2000s that team mergers were given a deadline and after that no more were going to be accepted. Now, whether this has been rescinded and permitted again, I can't say, but I remember something being mentioned about it causing inconveniences they didn't want to handle on top of everything else. Things may have changed since then, IDK.

I'm pretty sure we're just talking about "hey, switch your clients to team 33" type merger

I know the CustomPC and bit-tech teams merged into one fairly recently. I'm not sure if their points were added or if the name was changed and everyone from one of the teams switched over to the other though.

Bad idea, we earned our #1, didnt have to use a company to advertise for us and throw in tens of thousands. We EARNED it. Now, we've earned #2, nothing to be afraid of. I'd rather have #2 to our own than have to have another team lose their rank just to help us keep #1

And, don't forget, with advertising potential so close (potential they spent tens of thousands on) I think adding many more members would only prolong the inevitable (sp) because EVGA/NVIDIA would just pour a few grand more into it and buy #1. They can't advertise until they hit #1, and they won't let the last few years of tons of money go to waste

OK, I'm not aware of that one. In the past, team mergers occurred with all points intact and made aggregate in the coalescence. I think that's what had been imposed as a moratorium. Again, I don't know if the moratorium was lifted; we're talking a good 6-7 years ago if not more. Back then there were a lot of team mergers and it was getting out of hand at one point.

^^^This, we have fought long and hard for and to hold #1, there is no shame in being steamrollered by EVGA, the wider folding community all has a similar opinion of EVGA as they have all been steam rollered as well. They all know how we stand as a team as do they.

Relic summed it up best in his saga of the horde:-
"But grand deeds for one's own sake or the approval of one's fellows rang hollow for those brave souls. The smoldering yearnings for deeds greater than one man began to burn fiercely. No one knows for certain which great hero made that first fateful step. Though once taken, there was no doubt about what shall become. Determination was chiseled in hard set jaw and stern knit of brow. “This world will change, and I will change it.” Few words were needed as the first past his fellows and they fell in behind. “This world will change and WE will change it.”

Thus began The March of The Horde.

Slain dragons and stormed castles now seemed trivial things, for alone they were mere heroes, together the very earth itself trembled with their passing. As they marched the mountains boomed their footfalls and the forests bowed to their titanic strength. Pestilence and blight were dragged sniveling from their lairs and locked into heavy chests born by mighty thews. With monumental fortitude the ills of the world were hounded. For untold ages the scourges had pillaged the lives of the people, now the hunter was the hunted. "

Change Pestilence, blight etc to EVGA and we are set.

We are the [H]orde and we will retake #1 someday!!!!!!:D

The [H]orde is the #1 team and we don't need any petty moves like a merge to buy time off the inevitable when faced with a corporate evil ;)

if it weren't for team eVGA .. we'd still be complacent with our 3-4 mil a day ppd .. in the face of adversity (getting steam rolled), we have more than doubled our output .. my question is this:

Why did we wait so long?

we have sat on our collective heineys watching these guys barrel up the ranks and didn't start running until their headlights were right upon us ..

Regardless of how you feel about eVGA .. a ton of science is getting done and they lit a fire under are butts .. those are good things.

having said all this, if team members from other teams want to join us, we won't refuse!

:D

I and a couple of others were warning of this inevitability for more than a year now. I guess most people were either resigned to it or skeptical of the outcome.
