The best setting to reduce tearing with G-SYNC is to use it with control panel V-SYNC and no buffering, as this forces the scanout of every frame to complete before starting the next frame regardless of the immediate framerate. Otherwise, as far as pure input lag is concerned you are correct. But at high refresh rates like 144 Hz the difference between no sync and VRR with a frame limiter is on average just 1-2 ms. Even the highest skilled professional gamer is not going to notice a 1 ms difference in input lag. I'd argue that the motion clarity of VRR would be more of an advantage than shaving off an extra 1 ms of input lag.V-Sync OFF < V-Sync OFF with RTTS scanline sync < VRR with frame rate limiter < FastSync < V-Sync
Also DX9 games seems to have less input lag with FastSync and for VRR it also seems like the best choice for eliminating tearing (as long as frame rate limiter is used)
