So you are saying that changing some parts, if found, that got burnt in the microwave in the gpu wouldn't make it work again..?
Well, it was an MSI R9 390X GAMING. A very old GPU getting 95 and 96 degrees Celsius. The idea was to "ball up" the soldering around the chip and PCB. The point is there was no idea from my part that waves inside MW would actually cause that. So the temperature may be decreased but nope didn't get that. This has to be trolling.
No way anyone sticks any PCB in a microwave.
Even the regular oven trick is risky, and should only be done on a bare board with heatsinks and everything else removed. (might be worth it though to have a small percentage chance of saving an otherwise dying board.)
There is no way microwaving a video card was ever going to have any other result than killing the video card, and having a very high chance of killing the entire PC if installed and powered up.
You need hot air to do that, not electromagnetic waves.Well, it was an MSI R9 390X GAMING. A very old GPU getting 95 and 96 degrees Celsius. It did happen, i'm sorry but I dont think you understand (a common theme in this thread) what RazorWind meant by that. The stuff inside that black box that is L1002, is a very small insulated wire wrapped around a core of iron (typically, but not always, but it is always an insulated wire wrapped up). The wire insulation has melted off inside the box, you cant see it, but trust us, its melted, and now all that little black box is, is a blob of wire. Absolutely yes, it happened. We're looking at the photographic evidence.Absolutely no. Didn't happen.
As funny as this is, I hope these sarcastic posts dont encourage some other ..... person, to do this.
Well, trying to re-flow a ball grid array in a graphics card using a microwave oven was a HUGE misapplication of an idea on your part and it definitely killed your GPU and most likely anything you stuck it into afterwards, like your motherboard. Chalk it up as a lesson learned.Well, it was an MSI R9 390X GAMING. A very old GPU getting 95 and 96 degrees Celsius. The idea was to "ball up" the soldering around the chip and PCB. I did that 3 times even more. MX-4.You need hot air to do that, not electromagnetic waves.
Even then, overheating could have been solved by cleaning the fans and heatsinks and reapplying thermal paste.
Sarcastic? As funny as this is, I hope these sarcastic posts dont encourage some other ..... person, to do this.
This post is inspirational gold!As funny as this is, I hope these sarcastic posts dont encourage some other ..... person, to do this.
you need an AC unit. Or put the case outside (in the shade, i think you mentioned in a previous post you live somewhere very warm). Or screw it and move to Canada. That would be my recommendation.I did that 3 times even more. MX-4.
It's useless though. This thing gets power hungry. It goes to 94 as per MSI specs. And for GOD'S sake it makes all the room a sauna.
Considering the technical aptitude displayed thus far... I have to wonder if you really did what you think you did.I did that 3 times even more. MX-4.

Sorry, get a better AC. One that can maintain a temperature of 21deg C inside your room, even with your furnace 390X running (unless of course you actually microwaved it, and then that shit is dead and will never run again).I have an AC
I would've bought it from you. I need a GPU for a kid's computer.I did that 3 times even more. MX-4.

Thanks [H]!
nah, thats for HDDs...Clearly the freezer is the appropriate appliance in this situation, no?
So how is microwaving a card working perfectly fine going to somehow make it a low power, cooler card for the room its in? You destroyed a perfectly working card in the worst time in history to buy new/used ones.I did that 3 times even more. MX-4.

He's taking everyone for a ride. Must be choking his chicken right now thinking of the next crazy thing he'll say to trigger everyone here.So how is microwaving a card working perfectly fine going to somehow make it a low power, cooler card for the room its in? I think Op really is that dumb cause this troll subject started a very long time ago. My vega 64 throws our a ton of heat as well (almost as much as the 390x) so i end up turning the ac on lol...big dealHe's taking everyone for a ride. Must be choking his chicken right now thinking of the next crazy thing he'll say to trigger everyone here.![]()
Also, if the card is running hot, see if you can find a waterblock for it and use that to keep it cool.I think Op really is that dumb cause this troll subject started a very long time ago. In his other thread he mentioned it being +40c in his room.... I would actually die in that. Also, if the card is running hot, see if you can find a waterblock for it and use that to keep it cool.
And so you thought microwaving it would be a better option?I did that 3 times even more. MX-4.

im still waiting for him to answer from page one, why?!?!....And so you thought microwaving it would be a better option?
He was vengeful. You make my room hot, I'll show you hot!And so you thought microwaving it would be a better option?
This card is no longer heating his room, so it worked? Also no longer drawing anything, but you can't win them all.So how is microwaving a card working perfectly fine going to somehow make it a low power, cooler card for the room its in? It's a 390X, that's what they do, especially if a reference cooler.Still, this is a GPU to rise up to 96 degrees Celsius.
and especially if his ambient temp is 40c.It's a 390X, that's what they do, especially if a reference cooler.

Ya, 40c is 104F and he said that was with his A/C on. Being in the spring or fall based on whatever hemisphere you're in currently, the highest recorded temps anywhere in the world today only reached about 45C in sub-saharan Africa.and especially if his ambient temp is 40c.

He also said he owns a 200w microwave 42L LG microwave, and I'm not sure there is one in existence with a power level below 700w.
Scenario 1: We have the dumbest man alive with $1000 worth of computer hardware that he did manage to assemble and have somewhat functioning at some point living in the middle of the desert running the world's worst A/C unit and a microwave incapable of cooking a single bowl of soup in less than a decade.
Scenario 2: He's proved you guys are dumber than him.
Scenario 3: I'm speculating and dumping gas on this dumpster fire of a thread for my own amusement.
Whatever the case may be, I'm gonna keep watching this burn.
You mean so they can ship it to Asia where they open air burn the PCBs so they can extract a tiny bit of gold? Better to bury them. Although in this case kill it with fire might not be inappropriateAll you people telling this guy to put the stuff in the trash - shame on you. Electronics should be sent to proper waste facility for recycling.
