I was curious too since I was tripping 15a surge protectors. They pull a bit over 2900 watts each before tripping the PDUs they're plugged into. Each.

At idle its just over 60w each. I've only tripped the pdus pushing test tones. I had 15a surge protectors before, but they tripped to easy. I switched to cyberpower rackmount pdu/surge protectors which trip at like 25a.

Figure about 100a at 120v of power in use if I max it out.
I'm glad I'm not the one paying your electric bill. :p Have you had any neighbors complain about the noise?

The electric bill isn't so bad ;) It's not like they're pulling a considerable amount of time for any duration. Between the wife and I, we have two PC's and an atom server running that make up most of the electric bill =]

True, you'd only be using it for the occasional movie or TV show and not 24/7. If you're watching stuff like the local news, I assume you wouldn't have all your speakers cranking. :D

Krame, did you ever get the IR or the card reader to work on that KT400?

Thanks. I used a Pentax K100D. I havent tried the card reader out yet and I never even reinstalled the IR board, I never planned on using it.

How mouch dit all this cost u? and OMFG it looks pimp!

JBL 4722n - $1000 a pop (l/r speakers)
JBL 3677 - $500 (center)
JBL 8350 - $340 (surrounds / rears)

The wood for the subs ran me about $500, I think I used like 8 or 9 pieces of 4x8 baltic birch which are about $50 a piece.

The amps (marathon ma-5050s) are $650 each, there is one per sub enclosure (4)

The sub drivers, which were the expensive part, ran me $800 a piece. I originally used cheaper subs at $400 a piece, however they failed. The build house didn't epoxy the shorting rings in the motor well enough, so they turned into giant paperweights after a few hours of use. After trying to get replacements, and finding out the entire batch was bad over the course of 1-2 months, I got my money back since new ones wouldn't be available for 6 months and then had to order new drivers. There was nothing else available on the market that could compare to what I was using, so I had to upgrade quite a bit. These drivers are generally considered the best subwoofers in the world for this application. They put a nice dent in my savings. Oh well.

The HTPC with 14tb raid and all cost me around $2000 total. Cheap in comparison.

And for amusement... $3500 worth of paper weights ;)

What company built the subwoofers?

They're TC Sounds LMS ULTRA 5400s if you're asking what drivers they are.

Did you trash those baskets and motors? I could have rebuilt them. :(

The problem was within the motor. The shorting rings weren't epoxied well enough in place.

Sure you could fix them, if you felt like taking them apart which requires destroying the surround and the spider, baking the motors to get them apart, rebuilding the motors, getting them remagnetized since baking degausses them, then reconing after you've sourced all the parts. Sounds like a good way to waste some time. The vendor also requested that they were disposed of so that nobody would do some half assed rebuilds and sell them as new.

I'll rephrase that as, "I'd like to be in the company of those built subwoofers." :D

Yes, I would also!

I have heard of TC sounds before, never thought to use the drivers in their house before. Never thought to use 8 subwoofers in a house either..

It's xfactor, from mediaportal.

Another upcoming skin that looks nice for MP is Avalon. Some people like the new Backdrop skin as well.

I just got a 6850 for my desktop. I have HDMI in wall to hook it up to the theater. I already have a G700, just need to order another K320 and I'm set to be able to game from my desktop, which will almost always be more powerful than my HTPC, on the big screen. Waiting for the end of this year to really rebuild it once Intel drops the 3d transistor chips.

I don't think I've stared at an HTPC post for as long as I did before that post, nyt. That's an awesome setup.

The neighbours are buried under the rubble of what was once their houses. I assume NYT live in some sort of earthquake reinforced bunker

The main area is like 25x25, but its open to the rest of the floor, which is about 10k cubic feet.

I just replaced the wd green drive in the htpc with an ssd, what a difference. Also replaced my amplification with 4 lab gruppen fp14000s, so that's 56,000 watts ;)

Well, It is just about done - I just need to add a formica surface up top that will seat 3-4 with either food or xboxes w/screens for lan parties

Here's a view looking back from the screen

I put the rug in front because I don't want to wear out the new carpet underneath - Kinect Dance Central parties rock

The Onkyo remote controls everything except the projector, so I am down to two remotes - it even works as an Xbox controller

It's my HDhero - running at 1080p, it's wide angle by design - although the color needs to be corrected, the room is actually a deep red, bordering on maroon. It has great color in daylight, but if the light level is down it degrades big time.
