Couldn't take it. I bought a GPU off a scalper. The XFX Speedster MERC319 6800XT.

Cost me $1,500 but I should be able to sell my 2080 Ti for a decent price, so it won't be too bad.

No, I don't feel great about it, but I had a little extra money this month and decided to treat myself.

The 2080 Ti goes for like $1200 these days, so if you can get even $1000 for it, you're only out $500. Having an existing high-end GPU to sell off after you buy the new one leaves you in a much better position right now, actually. So people who have high end cards and want an even better one can upgrade more easily. Can't blame you for playing that card, so to speak.

Yeah, once I looked and saw what the 2080 Ti was going for on eBay, that made the decision easier. Being out $500 for the upgrade seems worth it to me.

Congrats. I’m still voting with my wallet also. Msrp or bust even if that means getting out of of gaming for a few years. I don’t “need” it that bad.
Yeah, I was with you. Been casually peeping nowinstock for months, staying up on the launch days, checking various sites, etc. It's been like 6 month at least like this.

No, I definitely don't "need" the upgrade. Was going to wait til next year and do a full rebuild, but I recently switched to Linux and AMD has better support.

I mean, I for sure could have waited, but it's my hobby and, even without the extra performance, I would prefer to support AMD and what they are doing on Linux.

Yes, the scalping sucks, but that is just the situation whether I like it or not. I don't see things getting much better until into 2022, it's not like things will be normal any time soon. So yeah.

I mean, who knows when this is going to clear up. Maybe another 6 months? Let's say you paid an extra $700 over msrp (assume ~$800 msrp in normal market) and you're at like 115 a month, if that's worth it for you to have it now, great deal.

Why?

6800xt are literally dropping to that price right now. The red devil 6800xt was 1450 on newegg for awhile. Like most of a day

That said, enjoy!

I liked the way the XFX one looked, not a fan of the other designs, but hopefully it will fit in my case okay (I eyeballed it and I think I'm good, but I'll find out in a couple days).

I actually like the way the reference midnight black is. I have a 6800 non xt, and it's super nice. (the rx6800 is also 2 slots vs 2.5, so it fits in most places). It's also shorter than most and not as wide.

I'm just saying, we are likely on the edge of the 6800 xt series dropping below the current 1450 dollar selling price on ebay. Which means it's very likely that we might be able to buy the premium 6800xt at retail. (yea, they are super expensive)

*note* I have zero problem people buying scalped cards, I'm just not sure this is the right time for 1500 dollar 6800xt scalped cards.

Camp the mid-week stock resupply at BB. How I got a card for myself and a friend. Of course - I only got the 3070... but I was soooo close to a 3080 so many times... ah nvm

At least I got chicken

Eh, sad you paid a scalper. I'm still holding out for my evga hybrid. Going on 6 months now.

Good news about the hybrids is that their queues are starting to move more quickly now. (I was 09:07 for the 3898 and got my notification on June 2).

Thanks for the update. If they keep moving I might get mine in a month.

Time is s worth money. And for some people investing time like that doesn’t make sense especially financially. If I could I would, and the me a decade ago would. But now if it’s not readily available, it’s not for me. Which is probably why I’ll continue to follow hardware and still build, but I probably will not game for the foreseeable future.

So what does the 6800xt do that the 2080ti couldn't do?
Not so much anything new, but should be around 30% faster and I believe it will fix some of the bugs I have right now with Nvidia on Linux.

Only downside is the worse RT perf and no DLSS, but I am okay with that for now.

I won $1500 the other day on a lottery ticket so decided to get the Asus ROG Strix LC 6900XT liquid cooled card. $2560 but only $1060 out of my pocket and I have a EVGA 2080Ti Hybrid I can easily sell and get back probably all that $1060. Have a huge case (Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra) so even with the H150i 360mm radiator up on top I still have plenty of room on the front or side (it's an all open mesh case) for the 6900XT's 240mm radiator. Shipped yesterday, should have it by Tues.

Don't beat yourself up over it.
Thanks, I'm not too worried. I wanted the card and I'll have it in a few days. Sucks that you can't get at MSRP, but it is what it is.

Kind of a take it or leave it situation, or wait like 6 months when I want the card now.

I will be interested to read your views on the 6800Xt compared to the 2080Ti. I know Ray Tracing and DLSS aren't a big thing for most people, but, not sure I could give them both up now. Especially with the improvements in DLSS 2.2. I know the 6800XT has Ray Tracing but is it even as good as the 2080Ti apart from Godfall. Nvidia still are better in VR too, which is also important for me.

I've been eye balling several new cards; the 6700xt/6800xt/3080 and I almost pulled the trigger a few times. Once I focus on the numbers, something evil inside me starts with the: " Go ahead, buy it, you know you want it" over and over in a sexy voice. I force myself to get up and walk away from the screen. Then the evil goes: "NOOOOOOO, get back there and buy the card!"

I've been winning the battle...for now. At least my wallet is still happy, but I'm getting weaker and it's only a matter of time before I give in. I keep holding on to my rosaries tho.

Congrats on the new card!
