Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

Fps drops that I used to have, seemed to by a problem with the timer and made my cpu underperform.
Game maxed, lowest i have seen in a crowded area is 40fps, used to drop to 20fps, took off shadows for "other npcs" and now lowest is 50ish fps drops.

Yes, i paid 10$ for it.

Windows 8 pro 64

Basically 3930k at 4.6ghz to 5ghz, depends on testing/game.
sli 780, stock atm(1110mhz boost), no need for OC(1240mhz, no voltage mod) for current games.
16gb ddrr 2133mhz, lowered to 1600mhz for now tho.
And game is in a samsung 830 128gb ssd.

Interesting.... So the premise is that it keeps your cpu cycling faster by executing superfluous code and thereby improving he games calls to the cpu?

Is there anyone on Cactuar who wants to do nothing but AK runs? I think I'm going to skip Darklight altogether.

Got to 31, got my white mage soul, got combat chocobo.... Need to get back to the story quest so I can do hauke manor.

So, tried running it max, and this was my cpu usage...really bad coding/optimization imo.

really bad coding/optimization imo.

Yup, performance is kinda bad for me too. Im playing with a 4770k at 4.4Ghz and a single overclocked Titan at 1440p and still getting FPS drops down to low 40's a lot. GPU usage is at 95-99% all the time in this game (max settings, set fps limit to 60). I also get random stuttering when moving the camera around even in areas with steady 60 FPS.

ARR looks good but not good enough to justifiy the hardware requirements imo. Lets hope the DX11 patch and future Nvidia/AMD drivers will help.

No issues with the game here..

i5 2500k.. 660 Ti.. solid 60fps pretty much 24/7.

Using 326.01 Drivers if that is any concern.

Hit 50 today, glad the fate grinding is over for now and I can get on with the dungeons and crafting. Still deciding on what the next class will be but I don't think I will rush another class to 50. I'm thinking Marauder but it's still not locked in.

Taking some time to eat, and watch an episode of Breaking Bad (on s5e7). I hope it's not too long before the 2nd half of s5 is on Netflix.

Get ready for me to bug you guys to run garauda, I'm gonna need it to progress in my story. Seems that they ramped the difficulty up on this quite a bit compared to previous bosses/primals. I like the challenge but can't find a group that can stay alive. Not that I'm much good myself at this point but that will change soon I'm sure.

what how many mmo have you guys played
ff14 is easily best coded mmo i have played up to date

What are people's recommendations for leveling from 45 to 50?

Northern Thanalan fates.

FF14 gets pretty bad in regards to NPCs disappearing. Tried joining in on Behemoth today, only saw brief glimpses of Behemoth (maybe saw him for 1% of the fight) as there were too many people in the area (less than 100 people, but still too much for the game). :p

yea i agree with behemoth part but for mmo ff14 is pretty well coded
people can't expect 120 fps solid fps from mmo like they get from single player games or some multiplayer games with less than 20 ppl...

Have a question for those who know more about computer and network security than me. Some people claim on the forums that
A) they have been hacked, even as they were using authenticator
B) mobile app for security token is worthless

Are they right? Meaning that even if I use the token, it doesn't matter, because it can be easily intercepted? And is the software token really that bad, that I should not bother using it?

Every MMO that I've played has been hacked on the authentication server at some point. When it happens no key can keep them out. Then they fix it and all is well. Keep using the code and more than likely you'll be fine. Don't worry it's just common nowadays.

I've been looking into it myself, not that I've been hacked but stories of people getting hacked even with the authenticator happens on FFXI as well.

I first read about it back on BlueGartr Forums, a popular FFXI discussion forum, and I couldn't believe it myself. However, when you think about it each code generated lasts about 10 minutes last time I checked when the first FFXI security token was released. A new code is generated every 30 seconds or so.

But, that 10 minute duration for each code makes it susceptible for "man in the middle" attacks if the user doesn't use it immediately. Other theories involve a bot, rootkit, or malware to block the victim access to go online. By the time the victim uses more than one generated key from the token trying to log on, his/her account may have had their password already altered on the Square-Enix Account Management page.

Again, a lot of this is theoretical and the exact method is not really known how they do it. It surely involves the victim unknowingly downloading a malware or trojan onto their computer that eventually leads to their account getting hacked. It also requires the user to enter their user name and password into the log in window while they're infected.

All I can say is this: The security token is secure, but not 100% foolproof.

It ALWAYS takes physical action of some kind to get hacked even with the security token.

Stupid actions that lead you to this:

  • Visiting an RMT website with a hidden iframe that unknowingly loads a Javascript onto your computer that leads to downloading a trojan or malware. It is easier for an RMT website to steal your account and re-sell it, or use it to shout spam (for free) their RMT website in the game, or farm and bot with it. So, DON'T BUY GIL/GOLD FROM RMT WEBSITES!
  • Visiting a phishing website in your e-mail thinking it was Square-Enix, Paypal, or some other website especially ones asking for account verification.
  • Downloading an infected file via torrent or direct download from a scrupulous website or file hosting/sharing website.
  • Sharing your account information with someone you thought you could trust in-game such as an in-game friend or Linkshell/Guild member. (Yes, even significant others can't be trusted. Seen FFXI accounts hacked this way as well.)
  • Downloading a bot to help you gather or level in an MMO and/or buying one. The programmer(s) of such bots may have unrelated code in them that may relay your account info to their own server.

You're a fucking idiot if you do any of the above. I've played FFXI for seven years and I've read just almost every stupid fucking thing that people do that get their account hacked.

So, in the end, DON'T DO THEM!

I had a security token authentication for WoW and hadn't paid for it, logged in, or accessed their website for a couple of years. I got hacked numerous times and my account was closed for RMT spam after I had quit playing. I tried to login to my account when the last expansion came out and my account was banned. When I contacted Blizzard because my account was locked, they talked shit to me and listed a lot of the stuff you said above. Then one nice GM researched my problem and noticed that I hadn't even paid for WoW for 2 years yet my account was selling gold at least 5 times. He reinstated my account and a month later Blizzard had everyone change their login info because of a security breach.

In Aion I used to login and would get someone else's characters. It happened all the time and I could do anything I pleased with them. I posted on their support boards and subsequently got banned from them for saying disingenuous things about NCSoft. 2 months later after everyone was getting hacked, a guy posted the problem with the server and a solution. Naturally I got my posting rights back and an apology from the CS rep in charge of the NA boards. He ended up being really cool to play with. :)

In Rift we had the same problem as Aion. Login, get someone else's account, go WTF and post on their boards. In Rift you could easily pick who's account you got so if you wanted to you could completely lock them out of playing! There were guides to doing it at one time. Luckily they listened when a guy posted in detail what was wrong with the server and a solution. They fixed it, added in a security procedure for wrong IP address logins, and all was well.

So sometimes these companies have issues with their login / authentication servers that's not malware / user related. There are certain tests that snoopers use to see if the servers are susceptible to an attack. Mainly it's login legit to the authentication server and then you can freely choose anyone's account. The nice guys tell the company what the issue is and the bad guys exploit it for as long as they can. After they fix the holes in security the authentication tokens work great!

So don't assume that everyone was visiting RMT websites and got hacked. I'm sure that does occur still as people do stupid things naturally. But sometimes the server security has a hole that can be exploited.

Software and account security is only ever as strong as the weakest link. More often than not, the weakest link is between the chair and the desk.

People still use too weak passwords. They're either too short, not complex enough, or reused across multiple accounts.
People store passwords in weak places. Storing your passwords in something like dropbox or any mail system is asking for all your accounts to get hacked. Again, you can have the most powerful passwords and encryption service in place, but if you store all of them in your dropbox, and your dropbox gets hacked, you're just as screwed as someone who uses weak passwords.
People dont protect their system from malware.
People still answer their security questions honsetly, answers which can often be found about a person using google. This is by far the stupidest security "feature" implemented.

So an authenticator does make the authentication process safer, but that is only one link in a chain. Reading up on good security measures to take as an end user (you dont need to be an expert programmer to know how to protect your accounts) will probably help you secure your accounts as much as or more than using an authenticator

Also, most people use the same passwords for their login that they use for the games forums. It is fairly easy to crack most peoples passwords.

I simply use KeePass to generate a ridiculously long and complex password.

All very good points.

I remember that vulnerability with the Aion servers where people would be randomly logging into someone else's account.

It's very true that not only those that I listed above but every MMO server have security vulnerabilities that is beyond our control. It is up to the publisher/developer to secure their servers and ensure their server code is as close to 100% safe from security breaches.

Yeah, using a single password for multiple online accounts is just asking to play Russian roulette with your account.

Use separate passwords for each account, and don't leave easily identifiable information on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and so on that can be easily used by hackers/thieves to get pass security questions.

I simply use KeePass to generate a ridiculously long and complex password.

I use a combination of KeePass and Truecrypt.

I hate PUGs. Tried to do Titan from the story line and the other DPS was so terribad and kept wiping. God damnit.

Wait until Garuda. It will make you pull your hair out. How can folks get to level 44, and still not understand simple instructions?

I had to drop out of a few Garuda groups due to them being so bad and me getting a bit frustrated. I think people get too used to the big red dots they have to avoid that when they don't see them, they don't pay attention to anything else. One of these days I will get it hammered out.

Due to not wanting to wait around for a group, I got my Marauder to lvl 21 and I'm tanking up a storm. It's quite a lot of fun and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with agro. This will definitely be my 2nd class to get capped.

That is so true. I ran Cutter's Cry last night with two guildies, and we PuG'd a healer. At the final boss, there's really only one mechanic for the healer to understand. If the eyes turn blue, run away. If they turn violet, stand on the boss. He just couldn't do it. We wiped three times before we told 'em to just keep his own health bar topped off as priority one, and ignore the eye thing. He'd go down to about 5% health each time, but I (the tank) could just pop my cooldowns and start spamming Cure I on myself until he recovered fully. The DPS, of course, barely took any damage. Guildies. Gotta love 'em.

We actually had a really fun moment on that boss fight. The boss will target a player. That player will drop an AoE a few seconds later which does some massive damage. So, if you get targetted, you run away. Simple mechanic. Adds a bit of spice to the fight. Well, the boss did that and IMMEDIATELY after did the violet-eyes thing. The DPS had no choice but to drop the AoE in the middle of the group. That one must have given our healer a heart attack!

I wish it was hard mode, cause that would mean that I beat easy mode (story garuda) but that is not the case unfortunately.

I would be more then happy to help Coffa with normal or HM Garuda but it would have to be late night.
