If you live close to a microcenter your best bet is to find a veteran employee and ask him to hold you one. They will have good stock for a new card launch but some stores will get it on the second or third delivery for that week.

If you are worried about gouging on custom cards, they would gouge just as much on FEs.

Got my Amazon pre-order in early. $686.

I agree, they will start gouging unless these ship in volume. But with the price already so high, it won't be as much. But when you are a store, selling a "better" card than your $700 dollar version. What do you do with the price?

There is a difference between first to market and aftermarket.

Why the hell does everyone assume places are going to gouge? If Amazon was going to gouge your card would have been more than $700. The issue is availability, not retailer gouging.

First off. Why does everyone assume higher than msrp prices at launch? History.

Scare resources with too many people vying for them does indeed drive prices.

Why did Amazon sell it for $686? Because it crossed their profit margin barrier at that point and it is Amazon who relies on volume. Also, it isn't out yet so the market price for this product has not been set, thus they had no other indicators to go by. Honesly, their pricing was probably set by computer algorithm considering the size of their company. When it comes out the market will find out availability and that will indeed drive the price. Most likely upwards until the supply situation stabilizes several months down the road.

As to AIB solutions. I saw a nice picture of a 1080 with a crappy cooler on it. This will be the $600 model, depending on availability of course.

Why wait for AIB cards when you can bid on a FE edition RIGHT NOW at ebay for only $1225?

Any ideas as to what they'll exactly be getting? When the 980 came out, the Denver location didn't get it for months.

My corporate connection said that MC was extremely pissed about the last launch cycle, they will be getting a massive amount of 1080s as compared to previous launches. Regular shipments of stock at launch.

So no aib versions? Just as I expected. Well, I can go on vacation without the need to chase a card.

Even if they do release on the 27th, odds of getting a non-reference card in that first wave are very slim.

Heck, odds of getting a reference card aren't great either!

Good to know. I still remember buying an 8800GTX on launch day. It popped up on their website that morning. Me (like 2-3 others) showed up and bought 'em no problem. The staff didn't really even know what it was. I'm still trying to figure all of this 1080 stuff out. No clue if I'm going card hunting on Friday or not.

The MC in Parkville is near where I work, I may swing by just to see what stock is like. Gonna hold off on buying one until I get a fancy new job...

Haha, maximum resolution "7680x4320"??? Guess I'll need to buy three more monitors while I'm there.

Looks like FE only. I'm planning to pay a visit to microcenter near DC on Friday.
Then the issue will be who has the most stock - normally, I'd figure (oddly enough) Rockville (despite DOE Germantown); however, check stock at both Rockville AND Fairfax Launch Week.

I've heard of pre-ordering games, but this is the first gen I've heard of pre-ordering graphics cards!

That's just price-gouging, can't blame nvidia for that. I had an opportunity to pre-order and decided to wait on a 1080 with a second power connector and better cooling.

Guys,
that is not Amazon itself but sellers (not even official retailers) looking for a quick buck.
So nothing to do with Nvidia.
Cheers

They can and will blame Nvidia for problems regardless of logic. 'Spent my rent money on an $1400 preorder of a GPU and got evicted. #thanksNVIDIA'

If people will pay it, might as well try it.
I had a friend that had pre-orders for the Playstation 2 at like 6 different stores. He sold 5 of them for 4x what he paid on Ebay.

With this, the most ridiculous thing about it is that we don't really know what Friday will look like. These cards might literally be everywhere at retail price.

With this nonsense, I'm definitely hitting up Microcenter on Friday. I might just hop on the resale train myself. Worst case scenario - it's a card I wanted anyway.

Lol exactly. Buddy of mine lives 10 minutes from the Fairfax Microcenter. Might have him swing by around 10am when they open and grab one for me. If I can't flip it for a decent profit, I'll just hold on to it.

FE stands for "Fully Expendable" or "Features Excluded" once the AIB cards arrive... This 1st wave of 1080 plain "base" cards really isn't setup for OC'ing and those with OC'ed 980Ti card would pretty much just be just chasing our tails side-grading to this. If you are going to sink that much cash into a 1080, at least wait for the more overclockable/better cooled AIB offerings that are sure to arrive within the next month or so. I for one am going to hold out for a 1080Ti equivalent, hoping for HBM 2, so most likely early next year...

Hoping to pick up 2 as my buddy has to work that day. Will be heading to that store myself around 8:30-9. I took the day off already for the Memorial day weekend already.

So instead of buying a 1080 this Friday at 9:00 AM I am doing something less exciting: getting new wheels and tires on my car . Just got the word they were delivered today .

Enjoy the new car bling today, and buy a much better AIB 1080 in a couple weeks. You win on both counts.

I am having an even more exciting Friday, a DMV appointment and change of address on my car registration. One of the joys of having a new-er car, very high fees :)
