Ebay charges tax?

They sure can, and do. It's called "sales tax", not "initial sales tax". Many states collect sales tax on used vehicles, too, which is thousands of dollars a pop most of the time.

Sales are not differentiated between used/new. A sale is a sale.

I was surprised by the tax when I sold some stuff a few weeks ago as it's been a long time, since I've used eBay to sell. However, as most people have said it was only a matter of time for this to happen. Gone are the glory days of not paying tax at Amazon and eBay (haha).

Ya ebay found a way to scam buyers by illegally collecting tax. I'm pretty sure it's the seller who is supposed to collect the sales tax, not the intermediary. The seller can set a tax for their lisitngs and ebay will still collect their own tax on top. Ebay is doing double taxation if you ask me.
