DOOM Eternal Delayed to March 20, 2020

The official DOOM Twitter account made the announcement that the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2016 reboot of DOOM has been delayed to March of 2020. They explain in few words that the game needs more time for polish, but at the same time reveal that the much anticipated Invasion Mode will still not be available at launch. It is also revealed that despite the reveal of DOOM 64 only mentioning the Switch version that it will, indeed, be available across all platforms and is now a preorder bonus for Eternal.

If that is what it really says can you provide a source? There has never been a time in history that I know of when preorder bonuses for games on Steam were for a different launcher.
 
I have very little hope left after the stupid shit Marty (game director) said during this past QuakeCon. I really don't like the idea of having specific guns for every type of enemy like in the new Wolfenstein games. It's stupid and it doesn't work. Most of the gameplay looks awesome but I am very skeptical about some of their innovations. Apparently MP is going to suck even worse than Doom 2016. I am sure they have plenty of ideas on monetization. Fuck off Bethesda
 
hopefully Outer Worlds and/or Jedi: Fallen Order will end up being really good and will make up for the loss of Doom Eternal
 
Isn't that the release date for the first 1/6th of Final Fantasy though
 
Of course it's delayed. The only game on my list of interesting games this year not locked-down by EGS is now going to come out almost after Borderlands 3 is available.

I like that Doom64 will be a pre-order freebie. That's the only one of the old Doom's that I never owned/played.

The delay doesn't really bother me.
 
stop pre-ordering shit people... game could be crap but they'll say it sold well based on pre-orders smh...
 
Honestly i think its going to be a mistake to push it back to March.....There is some serious competition coming around that time frame.....I was looking forward to seeing what Doom Eternal was going to be but now that its pushed back, i have to choose between Cyberpunk 2077 and this and I've been waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 for a lot longer.....

Well this was the main game I was looking forward to for 2019, but if the game needs more polish then so be it. I still got plenty of stuff to finish, including Ion Maiden -er I mean Ion Fury.

Really fucking hope this game doesn't require the Bethesda Launcher.

I don't preorder games, but after putting well over 200 hours into Doom 2016 (all of that single-player), it's safe to say I have a high level of interest in Doom Eternal. Can't help but feel at least a little disappointed I won't be playing it next month. I'd rather it be done right, and done well though.
 
Makes me nervous only because it makes me wonder what kind of bullshit they're going to try to shove in there before release. I really hope this is on-par with the 2016 Doom but given Bethesda's track record lately, it's definitely not a guarantee.

Just about all titles going back to Doom3 have had launch delays.

Well, Wolfenstein Youngblood requires Bethesda.net account. Thus, it's like uplay. Sure, you can buy it on Steam...but it still requires the launcher. That's what my joke is saying.
 
You sure? I played Youngblood a few weeks ago and I don't remember needing the Bethesda launcher... maybe they removed the requirement for that?

I ultimately fall in this camp too... but damn, I'm disappointed heavily at the same time....

Looks like a 4th Witcher 3/Doom 2016 play through while I wait....

I hear ya there! Doom was my (and I'm sure many others) obvious November SP game, sprinkle in some Jedi (fingers crossed for some Dark Knights/Outcast vibes), but still, going head to head with CP in the same month. That's a bold strategy Cotton, lets see if it pays off.

My attention will certainly be divided, both are day 1 buys.

I've been joking that don't these dev's know that when a game is released in winter we can use our OC'd rigs to heat the room. It's a win/win. Kill demons and save the planet. ;)

I just hope it's as polished as the last one. I was seriously impressed with that one. Could play it on just about anything and looked and performed great.
 
Interesting that they pushed this out towards the amazing Spring 2020 releases like FFVII remake.

As I mentioned over at thefpsreview.com forums, I am a bit disappointed. I was looking forward to demon slaying while enjoying some bourbon on Christmas Eve. I mean, seriously, what's more Christian than demon slaying?! Lol.

I'm OK with it, I suppose, but it ends up meaning that it'll get played after I buy a PS4/Pro and finish up the FFVII remake episode 1/10.
 
While sometimes delays can be a bad sign, I'd much prefer launch delays to companies overpromising and then releasing broken products many months too early
 
As others, I am all about a delay if it means more spit and polish. But if it revolves around perfecting some convoluted over-balanced online Battlemode they can kiss it. Definitely not a full price buy. MP in Doom 2016 is dead to me. When I first read that Bethesda was keeping MP development for Eternal in house I have a glimmer of hope. So far it seems even worse than before. We'll see.

On another note. Maybe this delay will bring things in line with some of the anticipated upper Navi releases. Would really like to see what a 5900 XT would do in Eternal running Vulkan.
