But hey, we say it is happening so it must be so, right? Right?

So, you don't use a seat belt when traveling in a car because you're not paranoid about having an accident. Insurance? Who needs it - that would be letting fear dictate what you do.

Taking common sense precautions against potential threats is just prudent.

At least where I live seat belt and insurance are both required by law.

But I get what you are saying. Caution, fear, carelessness, confidence etc the lines between them are gray areas and up to each individual to evaluate their priority.
