I can tell you I never asked for it, and I'm not sure who did. Whoever it was, they (nor the developers) thought about the long term ramifications.
I mean let me put this flatly (and this is just one issue with infinite paragon): It is literally impossible to catch up to someone that got a head start on you. This isn't like with gear, which has a soft cap or something. What I'm saying is that if you keep playing and doing the same type of parties (which is unlikely) as someone that started earlier than you, you can never catch up with them. Ever. It doesn't matter how much you play. If they play throughout the whole season, they will always be ahead. The damage multipliers rack up quite high with paragon, too. Someone with trash tier gear but 1500 paragon can easily beat out someone in full ancient gear. The scaling just gets too ridiculous.
