Is “Discovery” worthy of the “Star Trek” name yet? Even fans without an All Access subscription can decide, as CBS has uploaded the entire first episode of the second season, “Brother,” to YouTube. It’ll be available for two weeks. (Story shared by Montu.)

After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, season two of Star Trek: Discovery finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.

Added it to watch later. Shame they shoved the other Trek stuff behind their pay wall a few years ago.
Haven't watched any of Discovery, looks just too weird.

Interesting, may have to catch-up with the first season. I hadn't bothered so far, but maybe I will give it a whirl now. Though watching it on Youtube or CBS, prolly ain't gonna happen.....

I agree about the agenda thing... Star Trek has always been 'wildly liberal' and about breaking down social norms and considering other points of view. Having a few SJW characters is hardly the most groundbreaking thing they have ever done.
I mean... OG Star Trek had a Russian and a black lady... and both were good normal people, while vilified in all other TV shows at the time. It was super controversial at the time even though we dont blink an eye at it now.

That said... ugh. The first trailer made me skeptical, and the pilot turned me off of the show entirely. I'll give S2E1 a go tonight, but expectations are not exactly high. There are simply better things to occupy my time. Give me a plot that makes sense and actors who can get their lines out; really not asking for much.

Star Trek just needs to die permanently.

After suffering through four seasons of Enterprise, there is no corner left unturned for the Search for Spock an Original Trek Idea, while still maintaining the universe.

The first reboot movie gave us hope, because a reboot that destroys the universe is the only way to clean the current-fucked Star Trek Experience. But starting with the sequel, it was too easy to just fall back to old habits, and just rip-off the existing movies far too much. Why bother to use your brains, when this sort of glossed-over shit is what the trek audience has been eating for years now?

I fully expect Disco Very to follow the same path the reboots did - shock people early, then fall back to what you know will keep the audience good-and-hooked, like it has for the last fifty years. Once you perfect the formula, why fuck with it?

Sorry, I just can't be bothered. The Orville is doing more with Trek fanboys positive growth than trek has in the last twenty, and that's because they have a new universe that has zero fucks to give.

im 15 minutes into it, have not seen any of season 1, but... it doesnt seem all too bad... i am only 15 minutes into it though

With the possible exception of TOS -- I only saw it in syndication, so I really don't know the breakdown of the seasons -- Discovery was the best first season of Trek. I love DS9, but it's first season wasn't as good as Discovery.

I'll probalby wait till it's almost over and sign up for a month (via Amazon) or alternatively wait till the end of the Good Fight and do both shows in one month. Probably do the former and repeat for the Good Fight.

I thought it was alright. Had a Star Trek feel to it. I just wish it would go back to adventure. Solving the impossible situation type stuff. The personal story stuff doesn't really interest me in a Star Trek type of show. That Kelly was kind of neat with her bubbly personality. Kind of different for a Star Fleet officer but in a good way. Didn't like the wrecked engineer. I don't think she pulled of her role very well. Have to think another actor or actress could have done better.

Pushing the boundaries on social norms and straight up supporting toxic intersectional feminism are wildly different things. One of these things (Old trek) teaches us to be better humans, the other is a hate movement. Sorry but I don't support hate movements.

As for the negative comments towards DSC, I remember the time (when I was a kid) where I refused to watch DS9, VOY, or ENT because "it wasn't Trek".

We were all noobs at one point.

Heck, I * still * don't care for any of those, and I'd add * GASP * TNG to that list as well. I very much enjoyed TOS, TAS and the original cast motion pictures, though.

That all being said, I have been enjoying Discovery a good bit. It's not perfect, but it is enjoyable. I can't say the same for The Orville which seems to me to be just rehashed TNG with a little potty humor thrown in from time to time.

I found that you can enjoy a show or movie a lot more if you watch it without a super bullheaded nostalgic fanboy glasses on. That doesn't mean that you'll automatically start enjoying every new reboot or prequel ever made. But it at least gives you a chance to enjoy them more. But if you enjoy hating on things because it doesn't remind you of years gone by, then by all means, that's your prerogative too.

I don't like being preached at, and that was exactly what we got from several episodes of the first season. Their SJW propaganda was front and center right from the beginning, shoved down viewers' throats like the old penicillin pills before science reduced their size. It's a blunt instrument in their SJW movement, as their whole movement seems to only be able to use these days.

Old Trek didn't do that. Old Trek had lessons, sure, but they were subtle, and didn't eclipse the story or the setting. It was enjoyable to watch because of the story and the setting. The lessons were barely noticeable. They had decent writers. Even in the first season of TNG, the worst for their writers for certain, they still kept their lessons subtle, even if the lines were rather wooden and the characters underdeveloped.

STD's writers are completely incompetent for such things. They're incapable of subtlety, or writing a story that is enjoyable to watch. They won't fire the writers, either. The writers they have got their jobs because of the SJW movement, and such a movement refuses to take competence into account.

Haven't watched any DSC, because of the pay wall. I may check out the free episode to see if it is any good.

I think I am one of the few for whom VOY was my favorite of the bunch. Loved the concept, the new setting and the holo doc was awesome.

These days, the Expanse fulfills my sci fi cravings.
