So, AMD has updated its APU offerings, AM4 socket, DDR4 support etc. Only select 65 W SKUs were available right now.

Offers very little performance uplift compared to previous gen Kaveri/Godavari. The only positive is the update path to Raven Ridge, and the new AM4 platform. RR could be around 50% faster in games than BR - more CUs, higher GPU clocks and Zen based CPU cores.

A12-9800 vs A10-7860K (DDR4 2400 vs DDR3 2400 - 65W APUs)

Pretty poor results knowing how much Godvari can overclock on the gpu and cpu. Not really sure what BR can do. Still, I ordered one anyway. Looks like a fun chip to play with until Raven Ridge. Ordered a B350, 8 gb ram, and an a12-9800 On Amazon for about $300. Already had the rest of the parts.

Actually a pretty good deal considering a stellar upgrade path. Intel keeps changing their platform making the upgrade path unsustainable. Hope you ordered Samsung B-die ram single rank. Peformance is tied to Infinity fabric speed. Don't skimp on the RAM, you'll have a better upgrade path.

I was going to get some 16 gb of uber g. Skill ram, but at $220, it was a bit outside by budget. I instead opted for 8 gb of descent patriot viper ram ($85). I will either get the 16 gb of the good stuff when I upgrade to RR if ram prices go down or just chuck in 2 more sticks of the viper ram if it does not.

Shaq (OP) helped me get my A12-9800 running on another forum. Needed single rank memory instead of dual rank I guess (using 2x8GB myself). But surely some dual rank 16GB sticks must work.
