Net neutrality activists and some internet websites/companies are out to "break the internet" tomorrow. The whole idea is to have as many people as possible flood sites like Facebook, Twitter, and other social media and spam their thoughts about net neutrality. Also, some websites will be putting up messages that talk about censorship, throttling, and other issues the repeal of net neutrality will supposedly allow. I don't believe this is going to change a single vote, but if it makes people feel good then go for it. If you feel like it then "break the internet" tomorrow.

The demonstrations will vary widely, depending on the platform. "Facebook and LinkedIn users will 'break' their profiles by changing their relationship status to 'Married' (to net neutrality) or adding a new 'job' of 'Defending Net Neutrality,'" Fight for the Future noted in a press release on Monday. "Websites and apps will participate by doing something to 'break' their platform and encourage their users to contact Congress."
 
You want real results?

Have Facebook close until they bring back nn.

Or google.

Most people do nothing else besides use Google and Facebook

They lose a little ad revenue as a result.

But the effects will be lasting
 
How about we generate a list of IPs (home, phone etc) for all of these political ISP c*** gobblers, then have services like google/fb/twitter/whatever throttle them at the source. 'You assholes thought your NN vote wouldn't affect you because you can afford the fast lanes? We'll just throttle you farther up stream. Enjoy the shitty internet you just approved for your constituents"..... Like dog fooding in development, you eat the shit you make, so make it good.

What you are missing is the traffic to hose those sites will impact every router between the user and the end point. So, even if you do not go to any of them, you can still be impacted by this.

Reminds me of SOPA and the length users and websites went to in protest of that. And hey it didn’t pass, protesting en mass can produce results.

Too bad FCC doesn’t answer to the public so it doesn’t really matter in the same way as with SOPA
 
I can break the internet. All I need is some bolt cutters and wire cutters and I can cut some fiber. The problem is that only a few thousand at best will loose it. Now if I had some det cord, assault rifles and a few guys, I can take out an entire internet node. I know where a carrier hotel is and it sits on my city's main internet hub. Who's with me? #gobigorgohome

You actually think that ajit pai cares what the people think? All they care about is making money. And they get their money from big business. So that's who gets the laws written for them.

The message will be lost when you piss people off. That 99.99% doesn't give a shit about any "causes", they will just see these fools as an obstacle blocking their facebook.

This is actually a great way to lose support, not gain it.

Ok then slow the website down by 75% and ask for money to speed it up. When and if they click the link to speed it up, it'll show them the situation with net neutrality.
 
I think if Facebook, Youtube (google) and Google search pranked all of us and put in "Please pay $20/month to your ISP to unlock this website" when you go to their top page, the protest would work best.

It will not help. The people voting against NN have already been paid. Their votes are already decided. Ajit Pai already has his mind made up. Shits already done. Things will not change even if more and more consumers speak out against repealing NN rules.
