best volume levels for each machine?

Hi all, I just purchased a set of low priced Logitech x-240 speakers + sub for my computer. I'm wondering what you guys think is the best volume level configuration to get the richest sound out of these speakers. I can adjust the volume directly on the speakers themselves, the volume in iTunes, and the volume in Windows. Is there a rule of thumb, like to turn one system down and the other up? I once heard turning the volume up in iTunes was the best idea because it is the first decoding point. What would you recommend?

I have my PC volumes on max and set my amp to the required volume.
I make small adjustments in the media players for the volume of different media.
Games I adjust on the amp.
My main PC volume level never changes from max.

If you dont notice any extra hiss (from higher amp volume level), it doesnt really matter if you use lower PC volume levels.
Personal choice.

I don't trust the mobo-audio with distortion at high levels, I always leave it at 80%.

i have found that my x-fi starts to distort bass over 65-70% volume level even if my speakers are turned down low- so i keep it at 55%
