Fry's recently started carrying an active displayport to dvi adapter.

http://www.frys.com/product/6201890

And as an employee of fry's I want to get a triple headed demo out on display to show off Eyefinity and hopefully selling more graphics cards and monitors.

What games would you recommend for a demo with these settings.

5760x1080 (aka 1920x1080 via 3 monitors in landscape due to TN panels)
I7 860 processor at stock (2.66 to 3.46 Ghz)
and
1 HD5850 graphic card.

(The reason that card and that processor is that fry's sells the Gateway Gateway® FX6831-01 and Gateway® FX6831-03 prebuilt and it is already on demo with 1 monitor)
http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668417.php

-----------------------------------

Also it would be great to mention that if any of these games need any extra software/tricks to make them work with eyefinity, and if they have an online demo that works with eyefinity (if it is a demo I don't have to get the game "storeuse" and take a loss on the game.)

-----------------------------------

Also this is very important, there will be no internet connection on this computer once it is setup due to Fry's policies. Thus no online games.

Furthermore violence will have to be low. There is a difference between an FPS sniper game and one where you cut off a person's head with a chainsaw and blood is everywhere. That said I am still going to try to get an FPS on this demo.

-Need for Speed SHIFT
-Left4Dead 2
-Portal (or any game on the Half Life 2 engine)

These games all run nice on my Eyefinity setup (3x1920x1200 in portrait) on the HD 5850.

If you go with NFS:SHIFT you should have a controller or steering wheel enabled because playing with the keyboard and mouse is not fun.

Portal is really fun to play and watch, and it looks and runs great on this card.

For racers based off this review from HardOCP I am thinking Need for Speed Shift instead of Dirt 2. I know Dirt 2 has all these new Tessellation features but it looks like I can't play with those features enabled. Need for Speed Shift only seemed to drop twice below 40 frames per second during the 10 minutes of gameplay. And the average frames per second was 45 with the 2AA on and a slightly higher resolution than I am planning.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/01/05/amds_ati_radeon_eyefinity_performance_review/1

Or is Dirt 2 prettier/more fun than Need for Speed Shift (I am not a racer fan) even without the eyecandy of DX11.

-------------------------

What FPS would you guys suggest?

There's a lot of good choices, I think Just Cause 2 would be good because you can just pick it up and play and doesn't need as much GPU power as BFBC2, but I'd think a racing game like Dirt 2 or Need For Speed: Shift would be great for a display too.

I know Just Cause 2 has a 30 min time limit per play on the demo, Dirt 2 has 2 tracks for the demo, no idea if NFS:Shift has a demo. But all of those games feel very native with Eyefinity, no tricks, and can use a 360 controller perfectly. Just Cause 2 has a slightly problem, doesn't show the quicktime event for button smashing a driver out of their vehicle :(

How would Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Call of Duty 6 Modern Warfare 2 work on the single 5850 and that resolution.

I am pretty sure we already have this games storeused. And if I remember I needed extra software for these games if so what do I need?

Burnout Paradise
Dirt 2
Bad Company 2
Devil May Cry 4

I actually wouldn't go with Left 4 Dead 2 since it's a more closed game. In general you want open spaces that you can really take the scenery in from.

I've tried over 30 games on my eyefinity setup... some look great, but may not be recognizable to your average customer (Titan quest looks awesome!).

I have a 5850. MW2 runs great at my 5040 X1050 resolution and settings maxed minus AA. I played Just Cause 2 and got 20-31fps with AA@4 and barely broke 20fps with AA@8, with all other settings maxed. The eyefinty res. is demanding, especially at 1080p. I'm upgrading to a 5970 because of how taxing eyefinity is with dx11 games, and I'm running the lowest eyefinity resolution.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

not a very demanding game so would expect smooth framerates with eyefinity resolutions. PG-13 violence. good game. very playable with mouse and keyboard but would recommend controller since I wouldn't be surprised if people have difficulty learning to play with mouse and keyboard.

edit: make sure you're updated to the latest Catalyst drivers for bezel management.

also, suggest Mirror's Edge. very tame violence. first person. very pretty game imo. should be an easy game to pick up. no idea how demanding it is on eyefinity resolutions.

If you need to keep the violence down, I don't know why you'd think about MW2.
Because it is the best selling game for pc in stores for the last year.

Answer is that you keep the racer game as the main one, and you only show the fps to an individual buyer. Even then some games are too intense that you don't want it available for someones child to come up and see while you show the main adult customer what this sucker can do.

hawx, grid, half life 2, ms flight sim x, battlefield bad company 2.
Forgot about hawx, how will it perform at this resolution?

I am not touching ms flight sim x for it opens up headaches for microsoft doesn't really support that game and it can have lots of headaches. Especially since it attracts older customers who aren't into games and are pretty much computer illiterate. It makes headaches...

It would be completely awesome for people with eyefinity setups and 5850s giving actual experience.

Thank you Mayenard for the actual experience info.

The prob with MW2 is the sniper scope and other UI elements are stretched and people may think all games look screwed up as a result.

I'd aim for a game that really works well in it with menus and UI that set up perfectly

My 5870 destroys HAWX at 5760x1080 and it's one of the better performing games in eyefinity. I don't see any reason why the 5850 wouldn't be able to handle it.

IMO Mirrors edge is the best example of what eyefinity is like, but there are complications. the game wasnt designed for eyefinity so you need to get the widescreen hack for it and then adjust the game. also the menues are supper tiny due to the hack so it can get cumbersome to navigate the menus. even though its really fun in eyefinity, i dont think that it would be a good way to show off to general public. they would see the small menu and think that is how every game is.

you asked for games that display eyefinity well. i just gave you the list of the ones i know play without hassle and look good.....

LOL ok so let me get this straight...."older" customers aren't "into" games and are computer illiterate. wow. this just proves my theory that most salespeople at bigbox stores are complete morons. i've ran into so many people with bad attitudes like yours its unbelievable. and yet i end up schooling them on the hardware they're trying to sell me. by the way the 13yr old "gamer" who plays his xbox doesnt have $1500+ to lay down for an eyefinity setup, and most of them are too computer retarded to even know what eyefinity is or even use a computer past putting a disk in and installing a game on their prebuilt pos they got mom n dad to buy at the local bigbox store. the "older" people with real jobs do.

that being said its nice to see someone trying to setup an eyefinity display. we need more of them to show this technology to the un-[H]ardened masses. good luck with your endeavour.

I could have rephrased this better let me try this again.

1) Flight simulator X is a buggy game
2) Flight simulator X is a game that is unlikely to get any further support from microsoft. Microsoft canned the flight simulator development team a year ago, and it promised several features 3 years ago when vista was just coming out and several of those features were never delivered.
3) I am not paid to be tech support, and I lose money when I do tech support for I lose time doing sales which determine my paycheck. I have spent more time helping customers trying to fix flight simulator problems than all other game problems combined. Oh and I wasn't the person who sold them the original computer, I am just the most knowledge guy in the department so I am asked to help person x even though I didn't sell the original computer.
4) Third party add on games add to this problem not making it simpler.
5) There are other flight simulators out there that can also show off eyefinity. So why should I want to show off flight simulator x with eyefinity?

I could be more clear on this part.
A) The customers I have had problems with flight simulator x, are usually older and have no computer experience at all, often with flight simulator x being their first game. Flight simulator x being a buggy game does not help the situation. It makes the older person first experience a very negative and aggravating one for the beginner.

------------------------

And for a person complaining about generalizing it is great you are generalizing about all sales people and all retail people. I want to help people with computers, I can be somewhat clumsy translating thoughts into words, and I do not want to make my job harder with buggy software.

I'm 52. What a puter? :D
I think Batman AA would appeal to a larger base of customers.
Most newer combat based games have alot of seedy comments from the troops. :p
Racing games should be safe for kids happening to walk by or to stop while you sell the setup to another.

I have a 5970 but have had enough experience with tinkering with Crossfire to know what all these games run like on only half my graphics card. (about the same real world speed as a 5850)

Batman: game of the year, looks great in eyefinity, runs well.
MW2: same as above. Runs really well on slower hardware at high rez. Needs a FoV hack program to display properly.
Dirt2: only if you're going to reduce resolution and some features. You can actually play with all the DX11 features on if you drop the resolution down. It will still play on 3 screens.
Burnout Paradise: Runs like a dream.

Avoid anything released since Christmas. They will not run well at that resolution on a single 5850.

Best game I've seen for Eyefinity to this point is Shadow of Mordor. Need for Speed games are good. Dirt Rally is good. Bumping an old thread!
