Battlefield 2042

"Major" shakeup sees former Call of Duty and Halo developers taking over the Battlefield franchise. EA now wants a "connected Battlefield universe" in addition to the rest of the clusterfuck. Good luck with that. Why don't we just meld every AAA shooter that is left into a single amorphous blob already and get it over with...

Yeah because playing through business models is what draws gamers in :(

Oh, and to add to the joy that is BF 2042, the update has broken looking left or right, so you can only go forwards in a straight line. I mean seriously, how do you fuck up the most basic mechanic of actually being able to move in the game?

After seeing pics of new Santa/Xmas outfits.....I think I may just give up entirely. I did not do fucking stupid skin bullshit like they do in COD, Fortnight etc etc.

Trying too hard to be what all the other games are.....

128 Father Winters running around in a server will be like when it suddenly snows on christmas in a place it wasn't supposed to snow, and everyone stops what they're doing for a moment. Can't wait!

I don't own this game so I can only surmise from what I read and from players reactions that we are seeing a major jump the shark moment happening to this franchise. It must suck to be Dice or anyone else involved in trying to handle damage control on this game. Looks like a franchise killing series of events.

O no i love Christmas. But, I have no interest in wearing outfits in BF that has nothing to do with combat. I think its just a stupid way to try to be fortnight/apex/cod.

Just another sign where Battlefield is headed. For the records I actually like BF2042 besides all the bugs etc....But this to me crosses a big line.

You can't tell me that if Santa Boris also gets a mini christmas tree "turret" that shoots ornaments, that you aren't going to EA dot com and typing in your credit card as fast as you can.

How bout this guy. Combining my two favorite things Don Draper and Crocodile Dundee is already exciting, but when he quips "fishin' with dynamite!" at end of round, that's when we've gone to the next level.

BTW, for anyone who doesn't know, the music in these videos is actually the BF 2042 theme song. It's unaltered. It's really that bad. This isn't people making these videos just blowing the audio out on purpose. It's 100% original.

Everything about this game is just horrific.

We all knew this would happen the moment they confirmed the "specialists". Remember, half the people in this thread openly support and enjoy this stuff. "I don't care what the game looks like, I just want to kill!" Yeah. Good job gamers. I decided to take a risk and give them a chance but I know that was a big mistake now.

As I said before, BF4 was the last military themed AAA multiplayer game. Hopefully some AA studio comes out with something good.
 
today patch smoothed the game out some, hit reg is better. they screwed up the mouse controls for some people. mine work but the pilot left/right yaw controls got screwed up and I had to edit the text file to fix it. I loaded up 1942 portal and wanted to check out the server browser too to see if more populated servers show up now, nope. joined the 1942 mode with crossplay off and got into a server with 4 people, so thats dead. loaded it up with cross play enabled and got into a server with 30 people. it eventually filled. but yeah, this game is kinda already dead, 1942 anyway. the sad part is tanking on el alamein is probably the best part of the entire game.

I don't think characters/specialists/skins have much to do with this game's demise, how could it? look how popular warzone/cod/fortnite are. bugs/system requirements/map design did it. when warzone's new map comes thursday, its going to lose even more players.

The franchise can be kept alive like a zombie. The studio might be left to die; this is something EA is quite talented at doing.

They are very capable of running both into the ground. Look at command and conquer 4 and EALA. I think at one point both EALA and C&C were both basically a mobile game studio/game franchise and it was god awful.
 
It will live on just fine. Rainbow Six is a joke of what it used to be, but has become so much more well known since it started mimicking TF2. Battlefield is just following what the gamers want. R6 Siege, CoD, Apex, Fortnite, TF2. Clearly there is more money to be made selling cosmetics. And gamers are more interested in buying santa outfits than they would be buying flecktarn uniforms.

I yolo’d on the $100 preorder when my son told me about portal. I googled portal and shut up and gave them my money.

Bad company 2 was my favorite with Valparaiso rush being my favorite map. I went hard on that shit. Bought one of the best trinitron crts and played at something like 1024x768@160hz.

Most fun I have had in a fps. Noob tubing buildings to knock out walls and such. Sniping guys a few pixels in size on harvest day. Commando drops from the helicopter with my cousins on isla innocentes. Ignoring my exwife for hours at a time. It was good shit.

Anyways, my first match I noticed the bullet spread made anything but sniping broken. Figured no big deal they will patch it. Next match I discover the uav was invincible to small arms and too fast to hit with a rocket. The vehicles had too much health.

Then I saw custom modes with Valparaiso and atacama desert with bf2042 loadouts. I thought hell yeah I’ll get my unlocks. Nope! No xp in custom games. WTF turn off xp in portal once settings affecting balance are used.

So, I can’t host a my own server like back in the day. Can’t play the way I want. Infantry combat is a shit show. It looks pretty, but they really shit the bed. It is a travesty that the noob tube doesn’t knock out walls.

The maps are shit. I want a variety of game play. Open field vehicle rape is fun, but some times I would like something like metro where you have forces clashing in choke points or maps with only transports that emphasize gun play.

It is a big middle finger from the devs. It’s almost like the woke sjw pervs get their rocks off by gimping mid range guns and the tools for taking out vehicles, so they can sit back with the lotion and watch the rape.

Unfortunately the first 5 minutes were amazing and with my wife being out of town for the week my son begged a copy out of me. Since we would be undisturbed. These history revisionist sons of bitches grifted me for $200. I don’t foresee dice ever getting another dime out of me.

Honestly, this release is way worse than 2077. At least 2077, even at release, I played, and generally had fun with the main quest missions.

This has to be the worst AAA release since Anthem, and I think even Anthem was somewhat better given that it was a new IP, and they weren't destroying Battlefield.

100% agree, a Santa outfit in a Battlefiled game. Ugh. BF has jumped the shark.

I will say Portal 1942 and Portal BF3 are really good though, they need more maps.
 
So when BF4 does Christmas skins it's cool, but when BF2042 does it, it's the worst game of all time. Seems legit.

I think the X-mas theme was only for the CTE community as a bonus for participation, not apart of the base game.

Right. I don't know what the full intentions are for the Santa skin, but it sounds like it may be used for special holiday themed Portal events. In which case it's really not a big deal.

Yep. It's an unmistakable mix of awe and frustration with how much potential is there, while playing around in some of the maps.

Every ingredient to satisfy what most BF players wanted is already under the hood of this game, but it's held back by mismanagement and poor execution. I guess we'll see whether or not some leader will step up and right the ship, after the recent DICE management shakeup. Only a very thin film separates the current state from greatness.

Nobody is playing! Wish someone would play 1942 at least. Does crossplay help? As someone said the tanking on El Alamein is very fun as it always was.

I seem to recall there was a very heavy artillery piece that you could direct with binoculars did they take that out?

The one time I got into a 1942 match I killed one guy in a tank destroyer. Then drove into a river (my fault). I think there were 3 of us in the server. So I suppose the 7 seconds I saw an enemy it was fun.

That is just disturbing. I'm fairly sure BF2042 started out as a Battle Royale game with Dice eventually backtracking, but the next game doesn't even sound like it has anything to do with Battlefield and they'll still use the Battlefield name? They should launch a new franchise instead of ruining a loved one.

EA is really showing how greedy they are and a lot of the important decisions in Dice are now taken by SJW in leader positions while they got so many new hires that barely know what they are doing.
I'm honestly thinking that EA and the leadership at Dice will kill the studio in less than 5 years.

I think EA is betting their money on Ripple Effect and Respawn Entertainment for making them money in the future.

They could have and should have just copied COD and warzone by releasing a classic BF game for $60, make money. then announce a F2P BR to compete with warzone with all the crazy cosmetics. Its so simple, but they are stupid. Leaving the specialists for the BR would have been golden, because its a nice difference from what warzone has to offer.
