In my experience big companies don't factor in cost of the item at all when it comes to shipping. I have had numerous very expensive packages show up at my door over the years damaged from being poorly packed and/or mishandled. I just got a brand new monitor last week from Newegg and the screen was cracked which was no fun to deal with having to return.I recently bought an RTX 3070 Ti, and I thought that card was big. The RTX 4090 makes it look comically small in comparison.
As for getting it shipped damage free, I'm sure companies are going to be extra anal about packaging it properly, because they don't want to deal with a $1700+ return.
I'd still recommend buying it locally though, if possible, to avoid problems.
Someone already compared the official measurements and they are almost exactly the same size with the 4090 actually being smaller in one dimension.i just want to see how big the 4090 FE is to the 3090 FE tbh
Thanks for the information about the comparison. such a boring release in terms of aesthetics then.Someone already compared the official measurements and they are almost exactly the same size with the 4090 actually being smaller in one dimension.
I love the way the FE cards look but I had two FE 3080 Ti and one FE 3090 and the coil whine was ridiculous on all of them. One of the FE 3080 Ti card also had loud rough fans while the other had quiet fans. The FE 3090 had the loudest fan I had ever heard and was insanely loud so I was just unlucky there as that was not the norm.
I also had an FE 3070 that was fantastic though with no audible coil whine and very quiet fans.
It is only about 50% faster than the 3090 ti in games without DLSS nonsense according to their own benchmarks. Thanks for the information about the comparison. such a boring release in terms of aesthetics then.
i'm concerned that these "2x to 4x" performance over the last generation claims are tied mostly to DLSS 3.x and not raw native performance increases
Yeah, there's arms that attach to the case slots that assist holding up the card, or stands that go under the card and act as a crutch. I've started using crutches on all my video cards after I went to swap a Titan X Pascal to another computer (wife's) and it wouldn't work because the PCIe teeth on the PCB were warped from being in my computer for 4 years and having gravity bend it. It would only work in the also warped PCIe slot on the previous motherboard, lol. And keep in mind, that Titan card was nowhere near as large or heavy as the clowncards coming out now.LOL look at this freaking thing. Is it a joke? I mean WTF that thing is ridiculously huge. And probably need a new electrical panel in your house to run it.
Even if I got this for free, I'd never put this in my PC. Has nVidia lost their minds?
Serious question, how will this giant heavy card stay in the PCI-e slot and not fall over or break the slot? Is there some bracket or metal arm it comes with to keep it standing up in the case without falling?

Maybe it's time to bring back SLI????Not sure why NVIDIA would want to design such a huge card that is essentially a size of a brick, I really this is not the new norm for future generations.
Wonder if AMD will have a double card surprised ability/option without the bad frame times? Since chiplets can be used for multiple GPU dies, maybe a fast interlink plus pcie 4/5 will make it viable for two cards (probably unlikely) in a unique way where the OS just sees one GPU overall.Maybe it's time to bring back SLI????
